Hello,

I am remodeling an apartment I have, and was wondering if a minisplit might make sense for the upper level... and if so, I have some specific questions (before this site I had never heard of such a thing).

1. I need to supplement the heat and cool 2 bedrooms that are on the third floor of this building... it gets both very warm (summer) and very cool (winter) because of the distance up to these bedrooms.

2. Does a minisplit make sense? I'd have to have it installed via electric only.

3. Total square footage is about 350 - including both bedrooms.

4. If I mounted it centrally, how could I duct it to the individual bedrooms?

5. Any product recommendations that would fit my scenario?

Thanks!

Much cheaper than electric resistance heat to operate.

I don't understand the second part of this. Typical installation would have 240V running to the outside unit (small units run on 120V) , 2 refrigerant line running between the inside and outside unit, 120V power to the inside unit and a condensation drain line from the inside unit.

4. If I mounted it centrally, how could I duct it to the individual bedrooms?
Some ductwork would be required. You could also install a dual zone (2 interior units) heat pump, so no ductwork would be required, but it would cost more.

Stick with a name brand sold and serviced by a reputable HVAC contractor. Mitsubishi and Fujitsu are probably the 2 biggest.

with a space that small a portable until that you could just put away when not needed may make more sense. Also if it is an apartment, I think of apartments like the type that you rent that are in a large building, they may not like you drilling holes for a ductless unit.
