Mini-split lineset around brick around corner

Title sums it up, but here is what I'm looking at and could use some thoughts or advice. I'm about to install a Mr Cool on my shop that has brick corners.

The inside unit will be going in the center of this back wall and I would like to put the heat pump on the wall that is on the rt side in this picture, just around the corner....if I have enough line. Question is how do I get the line set around the corner cleanly?

The way I see it I have a couple options...
1. Run it up from the heat pump and go into the attic space to the inside unit. Problem here is getting it back out of the attic and into the unit

2. Some how get it around the corner and then run up the back wall and thru it to the unit.

Any thoughts?


....and yes...that is a big a$$ lizard on the wall...:)

You can use the covers and run it horizontally but will look strange. Why can’t you put the head on the same wall as the pump?

Option #1 , up the wall through the soffit into attic should be easy enough to come out the ceiling into the unit. Easy bends versus 90 degree couplers are preferred.

#2 Run out the HP low at bottom of Stucco then up outside wall or penetrate the wall low and open up wall to head unit.
Comes down to what's easier and looks better for you. Less bends the better.

Mounting on the same wall may be the last resort option. I'm trying to get around to the other wall to get it out of the way of the garden space and leave room to mow.

Running it low, below where the stucco ends, was my first idea but the brick corner goes all the way to the ground so no way to get around it and look good

You can run the lines a bit on the inside of the building (under lineset covers) to where you want it to come out. So on your unit you would punch out the left exit plate instead of straight back through the exterior wall.

Just keep a slope for the condensate, or I would just drill a hole so the condensate can exit the building first, then you don't have to worry about the up and down with the lineset itself.

As I think about it, this will probably be the route I go. Any idea of the minimum bend radius on the line set? I'm thinking it could be a tight turn from the vertical wall to turning into the hole passing inside

All I have seen is most manufacturer publish a spec of 4” radius.
if you try to make a tighter radius with just 2 hands you could kink the line. It’s about the same radius as small EMT.

There are tubing benders you can use that makes something like 1” radius though.

I had some left over tubing from a job and I wanted to see what happens if I just bend it holding the insulation on each hand and not pay attention, it bent and kinked like a straw. Now I always use something of a diameter to bend it against. However, the smaller 3/8" tubing is more forgiving than the 1/2"

Thanks, I don't know what size the tube is but I'll make sure to use a tool for making the radius if its possible to get it out of the shroud.

After doing some math its looking close on line set length. I had planned to put the unit on a concrete pad, but not sure if the line set will reach. I'm not a big fan of attaching it to the wall (always like to avoid any potential routes of weather ingress) but raising the unit will buy be length is a pinch.

Anyone have any experience with brackets...good/bad, ones to avoid or recommend??

Here is 2 90 back to back test bends I made against a bucket, 1/2” 1/4” combo line. radius is over 5”. I know it is not kinked.

I am debating buying a bender. But they all make a radius around 1.5”. It’s too tight in my opinion. My bend will still go around a corner and less restrictive.

Bender may be necessary for the last bend to the unit if you put it too close to the wall. It’s a valid concern for tubing bigger than 1/2”

I have used quicksling and rectorseal floor standing brackets. The wall bracket will make some motor hum through the wall for sure, I think I would only wall mount 9000 btu units. But you can hang any size, your choice.

That looks like it would be more than enough to make the 90into the wall, thanks.

I installing an 18k unit, and its in a shop so wall noise wouldn't be a huge deal, I would be more worried about long term effects of the harmonics on the stucco and bracketry... This is a fairly heavy unit so not sure if wall mounting is even a good option, so if I don't have enough line set I might have to cross that road when I get there. Been looking at the taller stands also, so that is an option but they just look unstable

get a bender. Click here. 1/2", 7/8", or 3/4", no problem. But your exterior wall will look ugly as sin.

I have the Hilmor version, which appears to be unique, but it's made in China. Chances are, I overpaid.
