I did install PCV valve between the two outdoor water lines. I know the one line going to the farm house leaks, no real idea where the valve is buried now. Hence thinking about the above ground base/cover for locating.No experience with that, but seems expensive for what it is. Why not just use a PVC ball valve and fab up a tool to turn the handle? I use a piece of 1-1/2" PVC with a notch cut in the end to accept the ball valve handle.
I'd install the PVC Ball valve below ground, then install a piece of 4" PVC from the ground level to the valve, use the 1-1/2" PVC "tool" to operate the ball valve. The 4" PVC get's a female adapter and a screw in plug at ground level. Would do the same as that $400 valve for $25...
Because PVC ball valves ****. Few years from now when he goes to turn the handle, the valve is stuck, the handle tabs snap off, and you're digging again. Have a couple of 2" on my irrig pump and they have each lost half the handle and are just about frozen and it takes a pipe wrench to turn them. Next time its gonna be genuine Chinese stainless.
Above ground yes they do. I've had good luck when they are kept out of the UV rays. I wouldn't argue against a brass or stainless solution other than cost.
three feet plus. One hydrant has almost leaked from the day I installed it (packing nut tightened already), so that needs to be dug up.
