Has anyone used MIT impact sockets, if so, what do you think of them? I just picked up 2 sets last night which will be used for hobby purposes such as rotating tires ect & not for making a living.
Thanks,
Steve

I have them and they have never failed me. HF impact sockets seem to be pretty popular over at Pirate4x4 too. I suppose that if you are a professional, you probably should have something better (read: thinner sidewalls), but in my case, the Taiwanese MITs do just fine.

I really don't understand how HF impact sockets are liked on Pirate. I've ruined TWO 19mm deep sockets, and neither lasted more than 3 days of daily use.

(I had a set and was curious, so I used it at work)...

Im pretty sure they wont fit high end rims. I have run into a few where standard snap on impacts wont even fit, and I need to go to a thin wall socket by them. I have had the biggest problem with Enkei rims. They use those crazy wheel locks with the super thin wheelkey that I could probably twist with a hand ratchet. Even with the extended length of the wheelkey, I have had to switch to a regular chrome socket.

I cracked two MIT sockets after using them twice, this was at home not at work.

Jim - Matco has a thinwall impact socket set (5-piece I think),I bought individual sockets since I didn't need all the sizes in the set.

Matco does have thinwall impacts that I can stand behind, I used the 21 mm on a daily basis just for the hell of it and it took the punishment very well. The set is 5 pieces and well worth it when you need it for professional use.

Right now I'm just using them for rotating the tires on my daily drivers all of which have stock steel wheels & whatever else comes up. I like the 10-36mm sets that grey pneumatic has which would cover everything I would ever do but have several sizes that would never get used. Goal for right now was to get sae & metric in both shallow & deep in the sizes mostly used. The 1/4" set of grey impact sockets on tooltopia looks also like a good deal. Thinking when I get a better set of impacts that these can be used as regular 6pt sockets so it won't really be money out like buying a junk tool that has no other use. Are the Grey pneumatic sockets higher quality & worth upgrading over these? Another option would be to get single S&K or Snapons in the most used sizes & keep the cheapies for easy stuff. EdNJ & TNToy, were you doing real heavy duty hammering on them when they broke, if so, what brand of socket will stand up to this without breaking?
Thanks,
Steve

Just get a good brand of socket. Id say anything USA made should be safe, as well as GP. We Have GP torque sticks at work that wernt too expensive and seem to work well. Even craftsman's should be ok. Im probably going to go with Matco deep 3/8s impacts and then buy craftsman for shallow sockets. The only reason Im not buying Craftsman deeps is the shape of the socket.
