My boss has authorized the purchase of a miter saw.
We mostly work with 2x4 material, occasionally wider or 1x material, but nothing thicker.
I don't need a stand. I have a $200 budget before tax.
For that price, I can get a 12" non sliding or a 10" sliding. I'm leaning more towards the 10" sliding unit. My belief is the 10" slider gets me more capacity for wider boards, but the 12" would be better for 4x4 or crown molding type material.
Am I correct in this?

Lowe's has a nice Kobalt that fits the bill.

Any experience with that saw?
Any other recommendations?

I went with a 10" slider years ago and it was the right decision. Smaller, easier to carry, capable of cutting wide boards, and the blades are cheaper and can be swapped with a 10" table saw.

If you get a dual bevel saw you can cut your crown and base board on "the flat". I personally like a 10 inch better than a 12. I would also get a slider even if I had to spend a couple more dollars. Talk to the boss and get him to up the budget if need be.

I have a wee bit older version of this saw and I like it, no complaints really
makita one is the best value right now. It’s basically a Kapex @ 1/3 price

I also have this saw and I love it but the compound angle gets thrown off easily and it's hard to get it adjusted just right

I have a 12" saw. Hate the size. Hate the cost of blades. I should've got the 10" saw.

For your intended purposes get the 10" saw.

If you aren't dealing with any thick stuff like you said, 10" slider is what I'd do over the 12" fixed.
