I’ve got a Mastercraft sliding miter saw that works great.

If the planks aren’t that wide you might get by without a sliding saw but I usually find that it is needed.

I was using a Dewalt 12” today, nice saw but my Mastercraft does the same job.

I've used a 12 in dewalt slider and non slider. I know some guys use a Makita 8 in slider because it's much lighter.

No matter what saw, get a blade designed for laminate flooring.

Makita 18 V cordless circular saw and an angle square as a guide.
Makita 18 V jigsaw for notches.
Since the cut ends are covered by trim, it doesn't need to be perfect.

I used a DeWalt 10" miter saw. Use a cheap carbide blade, toss it when you are done...the blade, not the saw. I like the idea of the $50 flooring cutter, but it has no other use, so sell it when you are done

Honestly, in this case it doesn't matter.

You're making a 90 degree cut, 99.9% of the time. As long as you can get it square anything with a big enough blade to cut the material will work.

Same thing for wood siding.

Make sure to get a blade for laminate flooring and have at it.

Here you go...$95 after coupon and sell it on Craigslist when you're done. Cheaper than renting. Or use it as an excuse to buy a better one for other more precise projects.

1st of all a Very good Blade is needed, use the Freud Circular Blades designated for Laminate use and Jig Saw blades designated for laminate use.

- Bosch GCM12SD 12 In. Dual-Bevel Glide Miter Saw: For cross and angle cuts.
- Bosch JS365 Top-Handle Jig Saw, small cuts.
- Dewalt DWE7499GD 10" JOBSITE TABLE SAW: Rip cuts

I haven't done any laminate but I would imagine a task specific saw would be best in this case.

Also, as someone else said, get the correct blade.
What is a task specific saw? A miter saw or sliding saw is made for cross cuts. Any saw with a big enough blade to cut the widest anticipated board in one shot is big enough. He will be fine with any reputable brand, Bosch, Milwaukee, Makita or DeWalt and probably a few others. If he plans to use the saw for other things then he has to allow for that. In any case a blade matched to the type of flooring is needed for clean cuts. That might be a laminate blade or fine tooth cross cut. You can't go wrong with Forrest.

This is what I’ll be cutting this weekend and putting down. Ended up getting a 7 1/4 sliding miter saw from Lowe’s (under 90$) and picked up some 84 tooth blades we will see

Skill makes a dedicated flooring saw that is designed to rip and crosscut and is designed to be down on the floor with you while you work. Its about $160 on Amazon and seems to be well made. I have one but have not used it yet for flooring. I found mine at a tool outlet and paid about $100 for it. Its much easier to move than a 12" sliding miter saw and like I say is designed to move along the floor with you as you trim around object. Prevents a lot of up and down as you are working the floor.

I would say this saw is a dream come true. I’ve use to put flooring and all new baseboards and shoe molding. I think the wife wants crown molding next we will see.
