Bobby, sorry to hear you are down for the count. I'm a frequent but silent visitor to your thread. My free advise is to listen to the doctors and concentrate on healing. Your only jobs are to breathe, heal, drink, heal, eat, heal and sleep (while healing). Going to the bathroom should be the high points of your days. Fight the urge to do routine stuff because you can delay your recovery or even reverse it. I'm no expert but I do have some experience and I've stayed at a Days Inn.

Thanks Bob. I am so blessed to have you all out there routing for me. I hope when the time comes to post some things to give back however small. They may be only words for now so please let me know if I ever sound preachy or condescending in any way. My only desire other than to get well is to reach out with a hug now and then. Bobby

Thanks 1/2 Cup. I will keep my progress posted. Really bugs me that I cannot repair myself, but I guess I can't be selfish and hog all the fun. That poor doctor paid for this barn find when he pulled off my sock!!! Bobby

I sure don't want any more time on the couch than need be. A few slaps upside the head to remind me are well received. Heck, I don't even have to spend time trying to slick my cow lick back down like I did when daddy used to have to do it now! Bobby

Well needless to say having just had the first rain since the hurricane and being laid up and getting more time to look at the ceilings in my house I have to report that it never used to rain in here! Now the fun begins. I have a large hurricane deductible and am having an estimate done by a professional, complete with pictures, in order to determine if I even have any coverage. Lighting in my home is low as I like the old incandescent bulbs. (don't tell big brother) Either way, like everything else, it will get fixed eventually.

Some pictures of the repairs I was able to make on the house before the accident. The porch in the back of the house had been screens only in an opening twice as large as the current windows or there about. I have a neighbor with twenty plus cats who love to find ways to get out of the weather. They and the local raccoons have taken turns ripping out the screens over the last ten years. It had gotten so bad that I had to go over them with chicken wire. Sills were all rotted (supposed to be pressure treated 40 yr.) I wish I had taken a before picture or two. I had saved all the old double hung weighted windows that were original to the house when I put new double insulated replacements in five years ago but they were the wrong height. Anyway I cut them down framed them out puttied them in again and made some removable screens to go under them. Third picture is to close in the chimney and overhang which would have invited more bees. Also hung the storm door and new gutters. The blocks below the door are so I can get in and out with crutches.

Doctor say the ankle looks GREAT! He showed me the x-ray and the screws in it remind me of the way I used to nail two boards together when I got my first hammer (about 5) I'm sure he knows what he is doing. He pointed out that where the joint pivots the space should be as close to even all the way around, sort of like a hinge to reduce rubbing/wear. Mine is perfect so it's looking good so far. I go back in three weeks and if I don't get stupid (again) should be in a boot.

Thanks 1/2. Got some new pictures of the great grand. Almost three months now and what changes a little milk can make. Your grand is looking great. Enjoy!

Bobby, that's outstanding! Time slows down dramatically when you are incapacitated so you have done well to restrain yourself. Also, congratulations on your great grandchild. My oldest grandson is getting married in February but I don't expect great grandchildren anytime soon. Is spoiling a great grandchild better than spoiling a grandchild or is it too soon to tell? I suspect it's harder because you have to convince them to keep a secret from three generations ("I have no idea how s[he] found the candy!).

Bob don't count the grandchild quick route. My youngest granddaughter 18 yrs. is the one who made the overnight delivery. The rest had many boy friends and are older (none were married) but surprise what's this? You never know what a day will bring. If I can figure out how to take a scan of my foot/ankle and post it I will. It's quite a piece of metal work.

Glad to hear the ankle is doing well Bobby. I had a similar break when I was in my teens. Do all your PT when the cast comes off!

Thanks Fergus. All I can do now is wiggle my toes but I have figured out a way to move my calf without moving my ankle. Trying to keep the blood moving so I have more muscle to work with for PT. Trying to be careful but keep moving so no one misidentifies me as a corpse!

Reminded me of the line from Monty Python during a Plague scene with bodies on a cart. One body lifted his head "not dead yet" whereupon the corpse collector hit him on the head with a large wooden mallet.

Thanks. Makes you stop taking things for granted like wiping your **** without falling on it and breaking your wrist. Gotta have a sense of humor.

Bobby, ten years after shortening my left arm we gave our son a skateboard for his 12th birthday. He suggested I give it a try and I ended up breaking my right elbow. On the drive home from the emergency room my wife told me I'd have to figure out how to wipe my own *** because she was long done with that job.

Looking through some old pictures I though you guys would like to see my 1930 Wrecker picking up a later model truck that belongs to one of the guys in the tractor club. Another friend who is well versed in pulling a trailer made a turn too sharp and jammed it under the truck. Both guys had made fun of the Wrecker and claimed it couldn't possibly have been a functional 1930's truck before this situation came about. It's all quiet now!! That's me in the Ford shop coat.

Great shots of the wrecker doing it's job. It could only have been better if it was picking up a Chevy. When my Dodge rear end failed my son in law delighted in towing it home with his Ford.

Absolutely love that old wrecker. And with all this talk of broken bones and constipation, I may have neglected to give you my sympathy with your incapacitated state. Keep moving so no one has to hit you over the head with a big wooden mallet.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving Bobby.

Thanks Jim. The local big Ford dealer liked it so much he offered my wife a brand new Ford for it. She got a new Focus hatch back even up. What could I say. We could not have afforded a new car otherwise. Bobby

Went to the shop today to nail two boards together to make them high enough to get in and out of the house so my wife doesn't have to worry about them slipping when I put the crutch down on them. The shop is across the street in the pasture. When I got back I had to take a nap. I feel like I am four but without the energy of a four year old. This S- - - S Bobby

Thanks to all for the good advice and words of encouragement. If there is one thing I need to get more of it's patience! Sooner or later I will also take the time to patiently learn how to put all of this in a format that quotes the individual who writes and give individual replies within the same post. I'm thinking quotes is a clue? Just not ready to deal with computer idiosyncrasies yet. When I tried to add emoji's a page ago I could never get them where I wanted them err!

^^I wouldn't lose and sleep over that Bobby. Not all of us are computer literate. I struggle all the time. I didn't read between the lines and don't understand what the two boards are doing to keep you (or them) from slipping?????

Bobby,

to quote a post just hit QUOTE, then type your message out side and below the [ QUOTED ] message.

To reply to multiple posts the same rules apply.

eg to reply to two posts.

MULTI-QUOTE.

then

MUTLTI-QUOTE

and the hit the QUOTE again.

you can undo your selections if needed by hitting the button you don't want a second time.

With emoji's you need to have your curser or blinking vertical line I

where you need the emoji to be placed then click on the desired one you want.

I trust this helps:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Dan I had two 2X8X12 inch blocks that we were stacking to make a temporary stair below the threshold to facilitate my exit at a shorter distance. Every time the crutch was placed or the block was placed in a different place the two blocks would separate setting up an unstable situation. Nailing them together stabilized them making it safer to step down.
