Bobby, looking nice as well:thumbup:

Thanks Steve. Have some catch up to do on cars and home but manage to fit in some time for small projects before I start the Kayak which is my next planned big one; saving the power plant for the mill until the weather cools again. Will post some pictures soon.

This is a bowl I turned out of a persimmon log that had been slowly drying for 5 or 6 months. Cracks were there when turned but water kept them closed. This is the nature of some wood dried natural; unless you have years to wait; I don't. Once oiled it will stabilize. It is a bowl made for holding a ball of yarn.

Notice that it is still on the plate. Made from a nice piece of heart wood I saved from a large branch. Wood alone would cost way too much for this type of bowl to be made for someone other than very wealthy. Or someone very special.

Bobby, well done on the bowl:thumbup:

Thanks Steve. I have one application of Tung Oil on and will apply another today. Brings out the grain and color nicely. Also in process is the other half of the log that made this one. I have designed my own nut cracking (for pecans) bowl and it works great; even better than the pricey tool we have been using. Going to turn it and sand today also.

Ummm, would I be out of line to admit that Ginny is very wealthy?

Actually, I made this bowl for my sister in law, who doesn't really particularly like me (we have different ideals) because she knits and I thought it would be a nice thing to do. Turns out that when Ginny was questioning her about knitting she was told she NEVER rolls her yarn into a ball. I am considering taking up knitting when I get old but don't know if I will be special enough to have it by then. I may be just junk lying around waiting for someone to find a purpose for me. :dunno:

:lol_hitti You'll never be junk lying around. Unless you don't finish that sawmill:mad:

I plan to finish asap but need to take some time to think about how I can best set up remote controls to engage and shut down plus monitor my RPM etc. It's killing me too. Also have to work at the other shop before it gets too hot. Saving the mill work for summer when it's smoking hot and I need to get in the shade. :)

I designed this bowl to crack pecans. It works better than any tool on the marked and faster. Clean up is also a breeze. Hard to see depression in the center bowl is shallow and solid. Cracking looks much worse than it is due to lite from the camera. Pick for extracting small pieces goes in the bottom. Made from the heart wood of Persimmon. Uses the pestle to crack nut. Base in bowl holds it firm. Angle of anvil allows for cracking off the ends.

Very nice!

Our persimmons don't get nearly that big. Maybe 2" trunk. That's some really tough and hard wood. Great job.

Thanks Andy. Here is another project I just completed and designed for Ginny's hair stuff. It was all together in a basket and made her crazy. I made this from some red oak I sawed with a friend who has a portable mill. It has been drying for a few years. One board planed down to 1/4 and 1/2 inch. Dividers are removable.

New toy. Stanley 45 never used sat on the shelf 30 years. Got it today. Also been building my hand wood tool box. Got to build a NICE woodworker's bench also and this will come in handy for making draws.

While splitting some Persimmon for firewood yesterday I came across some more nice grain. Thought I would play around and sculpt a knife handle.

What a find on the plane. The knife handle will look good when you are done.

WOW! What a nice find on that plane. How old is it? It really looks like new. Old planes want to be used, not just looked at, so that one got lucky.

Nice pearl of persimmon, too. :)

Thanks Andy. I believe it is from the 40's/50's but the last owner said he has had it in his plane collection for 30 years and never used it. Apparently, some people collect planes like we collect junk and these things can run into the big money.

pulled an old rusted file out of the scrap pile and put this filleting knife together. Will cut paper just from the weight of the blade resting on it. Handle is real comfortable.

 Knice Knife!

I'll stay away from the fishing subject, other than to relate my wife asked me once (only once) if I would want to take up fishing (she thought I needed to relax), I asked her "should I take up drinking and chasing women too?"

Thanks. I will leave the other two subjects to be discussed on another forum, or at least another thread. :pimpflash Been dying to use this emoji. :lol_hitti

Any Walton's fans out there? Finally moved my AA dump truck/log truck in beside the mill. I know everyone is waiting for the power plant but I need to back off so I don't get burned out.

Mighty fine. I'm still sorry you have that truck...

So can you power the mill off the truck, and have a elevator fill the truck be with sawdust for hauling off? If you did that then you'd have to find someone to rebuild the truck engine when you wore it out...

Hmmm wonder who I could get to do that???

It really looks like it belongs there. Well done!:bowdown:

Thanks Andy. Check out the two block planes I have added to the work force. Both Stanley early vintage. One is the 60-1/2 which is low profile with adjustable mouth. The other is an 18 with adjustable mouth. The 60 will plane end grain or with the grain equally well. Nice small plane. Got my layout bench almost built. I should start the kayak next week. Bobby
