I have another one in Washington state. Only problem is that I have to pick it up in person. My high school buddy is so anxious for me to visit he said I can have it free but have to pick it up in person. It's in my plan but you know what becomes of plans however sincere the intent!

BB: that's a lot of work on that Kyak for just some hanging art, but it's yours and you get to do with it as you wish. if you did want to finish it and drop it in a lake would you put a animal skin or thin type of wood on it. WELL DONE!!
if you do happen to drive or maybe fly to my part of the country might I suggest coming in July and August when it's mid 80's, sunny and rarely any bugs or humidity and lots of hills, mountains, trees and water to see if you venture out from the cities a bit. or city of Seattle's skyline is growing so fast it might be worth a look at especially from a ferry boat heading to the other side of Puget Sound.
what's next on the TO DO or WANT TO DO LIST?

drives I would use oil cloth or canvas then dope it. My friend has a place in Squim and one in Eastern WA. He plans to be in R.I. in Aug. for our class reunion and is flying. Thanks for the visit and kind words. Bobby

Found a small burl I had saved on a section of Persimmon log while I was picking up the sections/logs to finally store them inside. Couldn't help myself and started to cut on it and found it full of large red ants. The ants had made a nest in the burl and eaten it half out so I decided to make something unique. I have been working on it for several hours with a chisel/gouge. Stay tuned!

Steve thanks. I am familiar with Pietenpol, in fact, I am looking for a block/head that was manufactured to be used as a Model A aircraft engine; or whole engine to buy. Building one would be a reason for me to take on another big project.

Next plan is to make some brackets to enclose the end of this area of my barn shed storage and give it the appearance of a stall in order to have more security and protection for this as a work/storage area. I am in the process of moving things around once again to get the power plant for the saw mill into the shop and clear out all the firewood that has become useless for burning. It will go down in back for land fill and backstop for other things. I will also be working on the burl vase carving. That is if I can ever stop cutting hay.

This is the vase I hand carved from an American Ebony/Persimmon Burl with a chisel. Mostly not sanded just carved and one coat of Shellac. One outside one inside picture. All colors are natural to the wood; some darkening in areas is from mold due to seasoning. The grain is naturally twisted with this being enhanced by the Burl. No staining has been done. The inside of the Burl was being used as a nest for ants. I tried to follow the contours of the grain color with my carving. Notice the three petal (flower) in the top of the bowl. Viewed from different angles it can look also like a cat or even a dog. I think this would look good on a table as a center piece with flowers or plants surrounding it.

As usual when I finish a challenge I am never fully satisfied with the result. Seeing Vladimir's post first thing this morning put a big smile on my face. I respect his artistic eye as I know you all do so it gave me the courage to scroll down and read the posts that followed. I do know that everyone that posts on GJ is an honorable person and would not deliberately trash anyone's work but often we, especially me, are critical of our own work. I am humbled, and blessed, to know my work will be judged by such artists, and not some established hierarchy of so called experts who determine what, if any, creation qualifies as worthy of another's respect! I will never desire any more acknowledgement than that of my peers; especially if they themselves are so talented as those who have visited here!

BB: looks pretty good here from my chair too. since you seem to benefit from the help of ANTS I have a ton of Carpenter ants i'm trying to keep out of my house that might like Arkansas if you might need some.

Only if you have some birch bark? I do have plenty of ants including fire ants. I would gladly trade them for carpenter ants.

Finally got around to cleaning up three dogwood trees I planted as seedlings twenty years ago. Frost got them two years ago and they never set another bud. This truck is great fun to work with! I double as the dead branch stomper; sort of like the grape stomper. It's like trying to pack uncoiled electric fence wire into a trash barrel.

Thanks Joe! On the rare occasion I get to work with it, I really do enjoy stepping back into time driving through the woods. I am looking forward to the day I can haul some logs to the mill with it!

Joe I have taken the summer off as far as the mill. It's too hot to do much except a few hours in the morning and the grass has become a full time job. All I have left to do on it is restore the power plant and add my signature to it. Been cleaning and moving things in between to find room and better organize my time. I am also finding it is too hot to use the wood shop. Lots of projects lie in wait for the weather to get cool enough.
