To update everyone, Sarah was taken in for another operation yesterday. Apparently, they check what is in your fluids even when the hospital is the place that served them. Sarah's drain or feed tube (I don't know which) showed that bile from her stomach was in a place it should not have been. Needless to say, after two days of recovery we didn't need to hear there was a new problem thrown into the mix. As of late yesterday, that has been fixed and the operation went well. Keep you posted please keep praying, and thanks so much for your support. Bobby

Definitely not something you want to hear - but I'm glad the operation to fix it went well. We're praying for a speedy recovery for Sarah.

BB: More prayers sent.

maybe that issue they just fixed was the problem in the first place so their first operation fixed other issues so they could find it and hopefully they didn't cause this in the first operation.

wishing SARAH the best and sounds like she's got a great family looking over her for support.

Thanks Rick and drives. We went to the Mustang club meeting last night for a break; we missed last months meeting. Turns out the girl from the American Lung Assoc./ Camp Breathe Easy was there to accept a check from the club's Car show for over $3000. She fielded manly questions about asthma concerning how it develops and when, if you can get rid of it etc. I used the opportunity to give all an education on what it can do and where it can go even when you are not born with it and have not smoked etc. Then asked all to pray. She brought T shirts that were mostly children's sizes so we picked up two (one each for the great grands who are Sarah's grands) I am going to send them to my other daughter Cora and have her dress the kids in them for when Grand Mom gets home. Hopefully, this will send a positive message of encouragement. Bobby

Got some pictures of the mill from another direction. I have been working on the porch as well as maintenance on the place. Sarah is hallucinating and according to the hospital staff it is from the medication she is on. We are trying to find out what as she is upset that everyone thinks (according to her) that she is loosing it.

BB: I love the mill and the old truck sitting there really does give it the LOOK.

more prayers sent for Sarah. it sounds like maybe the operations went well and now to just work out the meds or get her off them would be great.

with all the logs you have is there another shed build going to happen that will be the drying or kiln room?

take care

drives I dry them in my grain bin after they have air dried. I cut 60 feet of 12 inch wide boards today and have another fifty squared off and ready to go tomorrow. I want to dress the belts and the saw blade before I cut that beam as 13 inches of cut makes me bare down on the stick more than I wish to. I will post pictures tomorrow or Saturday . Keep the prayers coming. thanks Bobby

The wood is coming out nice and clear as sawing migrates toward the base of the tree. As I can only cut boards 13 inches wide out of it I am considering bringing my friend in with his Woodmiser bandsaw mill to cut the 24 inch trunk. At two inches thick it could make some nice kitchen counter!

Very nice - that blade must be humming! I'll bet you're happy to have the mill dialed in and making clouds of sawdust.

Any specific plans for these boards, or are you just getting together a stockpile for future projects?

Rick, I plan to use the wide boards for a floor in a log cabin some day or a wood wright shop. Don't know if either is in the cards as I am not getting younger. One can always use lumber around the farm and I have already used some for trim on my porch project but I hate to cut up 12 inch boards for projects I can do with scrap.

Milled some more yesterday but no pictures yet. These are from the day before. So far 57 board feet of lumber rough sawn very few knots if any. Going to file the saw blade and dress the belt to cut the rest of the 8 foot log. All boards are 12 1/4 inch wide.

Now you need to make a bucket drag to get rid of sawdust.:lol_hitti

What a great problem. Mill is looking good as is the 12" cant. I don't know how you can stop sawing until the cant needs to be turned. :willy_nil

Is the pine gumming up any? Do you have a water drip?

I've been a little lax in my readings and I'm just catching up tonight
So sorry to hear of Sarah's issues. I to believe in the power of prayer and am sending ours your way.

The saw mill is a fantastic feat. It looks so great to see that pile of saw dust!!!

Drives asks all the questions and we all wait anxiously for the answers.

Thanks for sharing the love with those beautiful flowers shots. That was very nice.

I too am a little behind - travelling does that.

But good to hear Sarah's op went well. She certainly is having some, um, interesting.... times.

I hope you know we are all looking in, and sending best wishes.

BB: how's Sarah doing? still sending prayers.

sawdust pile and new milled wood look AMAZING!!

keep up the great work!!

Thanks drives. Sarah is coming along but still not out of the woods and still needs prayers. I spoke with her yesterday on the phone for a few minutes only as she has little strength and wind. She is still in the hospital but wanted me to be able to hear her voice. It was comforting but like trying to touch a loved one through a piece of glass.

Thanks Don. I left a report on Sarah with drives in the previous post. Come over and play with the sawmill sometime. It's great fun. Thanks also for noticing my small gesture. Bobby

It is difficult; sort of like my first BB gun. Pine is not gumming at all even though I have seen sap pockets more toward the outside of the log. When I sharpened the blade there was very little in the gullets. Saw shavings/dust does stick to the rail under the pressure of the carriage and it does take a wire brush to get off but that's only in the blade area.

Love the photos of the freshly cut wide planks - those will be great for a cabin someday. I'm glad to hear Sarah is on the road to recovery and pray that she continues to make good progress in that direction. Your photography skills are right up there with your woodworking abilities! With all the belt dressing that's needed, it sounds like your sawyer friend gave you some pretty good advice.

Thanks Rick! Looks like it was just in time as it is now pouring once again. I moved the loading ramp yesterday so it will be easier to cant the big logs. Moving them forward to pick up the front dog is a treat.

I got two of the windows framed and am almost finished with the back wall. For framing I used the scraps left over from the longitudinal ribs on the kayak. I did not need the tapered side of the cedar siding used for them but saved it as I knew I could make something even if it were bird houses. When I decided to keep the framing wood and not paint it the thought came to me. I wanted as much wood on the wall as possible to off set the painted jambs and glass; not to mention the exterior board siding where the kayak hangs.

Bobby, I enjoyed your flower photos so I thought I'd share one I took today. Two weeks ago the first gardenia bloom popped but I didn't see it until it wilted. Picked the second one today and gave it to my prom date to remind her of her 1961 corsage. When we were first married I didn't have much money saved for Christmas presents so I gave Liane a $5 bouquet of flowers every 25th of the month for the year. It occurred to me that present went over well so I started buying a dozen (or two) roses every time I visit Trader Joe's. They sell a dozen for $6.99 so I'm not going too overboard (those $5 bouquets in 1963 are equivalent to $25 today). The stem on that one broke so it went in the shooter glass.

EDIT: I mentioned Trader Joe's because you have two in Charleston.

Beautiful! Love the romantic story but would expect nothing less; except now I have to set the bar higher just when I was about to become Limbo champ.

Sarah is coming home today. She will be staying with my other daughter Cora for a few days so someone can look after her. Please continue to pray for her and thank you all for your prayers and support. Sarah also asks your prayers continue. She has been very moved by the thought people all over the world have joined their hands in prayer and support for her. She has never felt very worthy of others being willing to reach out for her so the outpouring of concern during these times may be healing much more than we know. God Bless you all. Bobby

BB: we're here 3,000 miles or so still thinking about Sarah and sending more prayers hoping she will be her good old fun and healthy self soon.

setting the bar too low can have bitter consequences so good to bring it up now and then. :lol_hitti

BOB: I love your stories and you've got a great heart and a super gal even if you won't let her in your garage.

I used to buy a dozen roses at Costco for $12 every week when my bride first went back to work after taking 15 years off to raise our kids instead of paying for somebody else to raise them. if it wasn't for the huge cost of medical insurance a self employed person had to pay she'd still have been home taking care of just the kids and I, but she managed to work her way up from a receptionist to Senior Director of a pretty big company so even though she doesn't like everything about her job she's pretty darn good at it. speaking of which I think I need to get some roses and start up what I did weekly or maybe bi weekly for years 15 or so years ago. thanks for the reminder!!!!

BB I hope you keep fine tuning that mill and how you get the logs on and off cause with proper ear protection I bet the smell of the fresh cut logs is maybe better than fresh cut flowers to us.

cheers

The molding at the crown was made out of one of the six foot boards milled from the first log. After cutting and planning I ran one edge through my cheap shaper to give it a cove on the bottom. The wall at the end of the second picture will be bead board cypress from floor to ceiling. Most of my cutting and fitting is done. View out the windows is of Ginny's fish pond/pool. Guest cottage is in the distance and the saw mill is to the left behind the trees. This constitutes most of what is going on for projects right now.

BB: i'm hoping Sarah is doing better. sorry to hear one Dr. screwed up or maybe the other Dr. is playing the BLAME GAME. what's important is that your daughter gets her health back and we are still praying here for her.

I can't recall all the cool things you've done since I started following you and I haven't read all your thread so wondering if you are just remodeling an existing porch since we are only seeing interior pictures or did you do a full add on cause I remember you having a door that only had a couple steps out of it, but that might be back door?

hope it quit raining so you can go work or maybe play a bit with your sawmill.

Thanks for the prayers drives. I am finishing off a back porch (back door different) that was originally built with no intent for finish or windows, only screen. I used my old weighted windows, ( left over from when I installed replacement windows in the main house) which I had to cut down to replace the porch screen a few years ago, but have now decided to finish off the inside. What a treat, I have had to use filler strips and other tricks in order to make it acceptable and am working with things that are not especially square. I am also making my own frames and molding from scrap or rough sawn lumber. I will have finished pictures excluding the baseboard as the finished floor will come later when I get some money.

Sarah saw the doctor yesterday. He said she is healing but will need to have a feeding tube for one to two years with pump installed in order to supplement her intake and in case of another failure in the surgically installed digestive modifications. She is pretty low at this point as she is just now having to accept that the feeding tube will not come out any time soon. Prayers from those she doesn't even know are helping greatly. Thanks from Sarah and myself and God Bless. Bobby
