Excellent workmanship! Love the door you built.

Thanks y'sguy. Below is what else I have done in the last week. First two pics are of drains laid for the shed and adjoining cottage to draw off much of the water currently making both buildings so damp. The other is of a cover I put together from scraps for the sump pump. The last several days have been fighting with a huge log, Pine, twelve feet long twenty three inches dia. Ended up with ten boards thirteen wide various thicknesses and half a dozen two by fours. Haven't cut Pine in a while and my bits are needing swaging. and I have no swage, so I have a lot of store bought size lumber but it is so smooth it wont need planning. Some will need lots of planning as logs this size tend to shift as the log get smaller. Doesn't happen with the big heavy industrial rigs I bet. but then I would have to justify the cost. I spent a few days in between nursing a sore back after all that hand digging.

Got four new/old cabinet clamps with the faucet style wheel 18 inch opening. Should be able to build now. Pictures when it gets enough interest. Finished one gutter and all drains.

HI Bobby
Just checking in to see what you been up to.
You mentioned tending to a sore back after digging trenches I can well relate. I've been building more of my western town and am looking forward to resting up all weekend.

You'regetting a lot done, seems like to me. Satisfying to make so much progress.

guy it feels like work done to ward off boredom but necessary. Moved two racks of old Bolens parts yesterday to crowd up my barn a little more so i can get this shed functioning. I am embarrassed to take pictures of good parts piled up that should be catalogued for use or sale. I need to get some kid to list all of this stuff on the computer to make room for more stuff no doubt.:rocker:

My plan for the weekend too Don. Going to take a ride in the Mustang convertible as long as it doesn't rain.

See the announcement by Ryan at the top of the thread list.....

Seems there was a problem. Don't know if GJ is being affected by hackers during the American night when Simon down here used to watch over things.....

Yipes! Something tells me this is not a fun, planned project you were looking forward to.

No doubt about it Y'sguy. Been working all week to rebuild the deck on my cub lo boy; running nice. Got the Mustang convertible purring like a kitten. Grass is almost all cut for now. And all i have to show is a hole where i dug out a brand new Lonestar tick in the mirror with my pocket knife after mowing it. Still have half a shed to clean out and two more flat belts to make in order to get my planer up to speed. Saving the big projects for cooler weather but a few small ones are coming up. Looks pretty quiet for most out there. Guess everyone is playing catch up on chores and stocking the shelves for the next round of slim times at the grocery store as all seems pretty quiet. Good to hear from you. Bobby

BB: your new foundation on the old shed is a fix that should outlive you and your bride. WELL DONE!

I can't say i've ever seen that tool you used to lift your cement septic lid or if I did I had no idea what the heck it was. glad you got that uncovered and was it just a service pump you decided to do or was there an issue you have with your drainfield?

If you can find an old invertalign inversion chair or a newer teeter up (or a new teeter up) I know if you hang 5 minutes a day your back will thank you.

keep up the great work!!

drives great to hear from you. It was just a service call. I have only had to empty the system three times in 25 years but it was time as things were getting a little slow on the back draft. Don't ask me to explain that as it would be too much for an old, stressed out , brain.
I have been working on trying to salvage my bush mower drive shaft but the yokes are too far gone. Have to finish my forge to get them hot enough to twist and turn in order to line up the u-joint. I gave in and bought a new one yesterday. It was like being a proud new father.

I know this is no big deal to you Florida boys but in S.C. Banana trees have to make it through two winters in order to produce fruit. Mine have been here since I got the house in 1993 and never produced anything but leaves. After 25 plus years I am proud to announce the birth of my first Bananas. :)

Bobby, I understand the excitement.

We put a couple of banana plants in the ground in 1996 and it took a while before the first flower bloomed. A neighbor gave us another plant that grew three times taller in a year. Turned out the big plants produce very small fruit and are hard to trim so they had to go. Only problem with the small plants is they are feast or famine. You wait months for the bananas to mature and then the whole bunch is ready to harvest. We have three bunches ready to pick and that means about 75 pounds of bananas. Luckily we have a new neighbor whose kids love bananas.

I geek out on a lot of things including bananas. I love the names given to the parts of the banana plant. The thing that come out of the plant is called the Inflorescence and the stalk is called the Peduncle. The fruit we eat is the female part and the cute useless part at the end is the male part.

The Chiquita bananas we all know and love is actually a Cavendish banana and is the overwhelming favorite banana. While we are all suffering through the COVID-19 pandemic, the world’s favorite fruit is fighting its own pandemic: a fungus called Tropical Race 4 (TR4), or Panama Disease, that attacks the plant’s vascular system. The "Big Mike" banana folks ate 70 years ago disappeared because of the same disease and the Cavendish was its replacement. Now the Cavendish has become susceptible and plantations all over the world are being decimated.
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/feat...n-banana-industry-is-being-ravaged-by-disease

We grow Lady Finger bananas that are smaller and sweeter than the Cavendish but they too are susceptible to Panama Disease. Enjoy your backyard bananas because they may become a rare and expensive delicacy.

Thanks for the lessons. I try to have a banana every morning sometimes twice a day. I get ours at the grocery store though. I would love to have a banana tree that would provide this for us like you lucky guys. While I'm wishing I'll take an avocado plant as well, thank you.

Bob do you have any idea what type of Banana tree I have? The one with the bananas is 10 feet tall but the fruit so far is green and about 6 inches.

Bobby, I have a dangerously small real knowledge of bananas. Part of the problem in identifying a variety is that there are so many. For example, I know yours is not a Java Blue or Scarlet banana. I'm not even sure mine are Lady Fingers. They could be Gold Finger bananas. Here's a place to start:

I decided a project was needed and was tired of paying for trash cans that did not last. First i had to find wheels and i knew i had some new mower wheels in the shed. Well it turned out that ten years of sitting on the concrete had eaten the hub out of the one on the bottom. (Where does the time go?) It was paper thin up to just under the washer. Once blasted nothing was left but the bushing. This weld, MIG, was breached to solid steel and whipped back into itself one puddle at a time to build a bridge that would be twice the thickness of the other side. As usual, I forgot to take a before pic. I guess, subconsciously, I feel everyone has seen rusted away metal before. Also, I didn't know if I could weld it up to a standard which would be better than new. What would have been the point to post a toasted wheel that i had already been unconscious enough to leave on the damp floor for a decade? :dunno: So; no before picture. Just have to take my word for it.:rocker:

I do realize it is not welded in the center. But, the other side is solid and movement, if any, between the bushing could only be 1/8 inch or less. The washer has been hammered to match the curve of the hub. It is tight and flat at the bushing. No space for anything but spatter on the washer i.d. so if it doesn't last until 80 I will splurge and buy new wheels. The axel is 5/8 CRS so it should still be good by then. Hopefully, I will.

Nice save Bobby. I have a similar project waiting for me to find my jar of motivation.

Bob, seems to me you have plenty of motivation. However, at our age what with worn out hips, knees, and other associated (tendon)cies, we just find it more difficult to kick ourselves in our own a_ _es. It's just fear, motivated by the fact that, in so doing, we may just use up what energy we have stored up for the day, in the act of making the kick. We have learned not to tare down the goal post. We can still see it, but in lining up a foot with the ball it becomes more gratifying to kick it down the road than out of our sight into a crowd which no longer deafens us with their cheers.

Trash can is fiberglass. Something i picked up along the way. Everything but the top is Red Oak. The top is Red Cedar. All hardware is outside hardware. The wheels are lawnmower wheels and the axel is 5/8 CRS. All wood except the plywood is milled here and the plywood (small strips to reinforce the bottom is pressure treated.

Knowing the condition of the wheel bearings I would be careful getting up to the higher speeds with it. Wouldn't want to see anyone get hurt in an accident.

Enjoying the flowers. Taking down the Jacobs wind generator this week, maybe today. Preparing for a major move maybe; or just a partial. Most of my efforts lately have been to downsize so lots of things must go :dunno:

I hope all is well with you. When I read preparing for a major move…I start to wonder? I have had things happen in my life that point to similar remarks.
Let us know how we can help.

Appreciate your concern more than you know my friend. We are OK. Just considering getting closer to the kids at least part of the year and that will take time and money. I also have too much stuff therefore too much to keep running. Some of it is out of service like the Generator. I took it down yesterday with the help of my friends in the shipyard and their half million dollars worth of cranes. Sorry, I didn't get pictures. I felt it would be insulting to be wasting their time while i played with my camera. All was done no charge with the blessing of the shipyard president, also a friend. There is nothing wrong with the wind generator. I just plan to change out to all solar or build a workshop in its place depending on what goes on what gets sold and if we buy a summer place near them. I hate to part with most of it but I do realize I may not get to do all of the things i had planned to do. Weather is a big part of it as I can't take the heat like I used to be able to. Ginny can't take it at all so she stays in the house and gets depressed. I climbed that 50 foot tower for the last time a few weeks ago when the temp. was in the 90's to get it ready. She was a little anxious to say the least.

Ginny and I had the tower apart and stowed away in five hours in the hot sun exactly 24 hours after we started taking it down. All that's left is to put the generator and tail on a skid.

Bobby, I know you don't like to see it go. Curious what things exactly you used it to power up with it?

Anything 110 volt as the inverter puts out that. The generator was/is 32 volt dc but will go into the inverter whatever rating the batteries are. I do have some rare equipment that is 32 volt dc and it will run without a battery.

Cleaning up some wiring in the shed and lots of trash. Hung a new shop light and now I can see.
Picked up a Stanley 100 1/2 Squirrel tail radius plane this weekend. Maybe I'll make a violin and start playing. :rocker:

Bob that's why I left out a picture of it. When I saw it in the glass case I thought it was a child's plane. When I got it for less than 1/5th the going price I became a child.
