Wow, very nice build you have going on here!!

I really like your sliding glass doors, and though I orginally conceived pocket doors, I think I like your full glass wall look better.
Where did you get them from?

And also, what program did you use to model your plans from in your first post?

Mc-
I bought them from MetalCraft Doors here locally. Shipping on a door this size was well into the Thousands, so local made sense.

I am a mechanical engineer, so I used SolidWorks. Not the best for this type of work (and I didnt spend the time to do photo realistic renders). But since I have 6000+ hrs of solidworks, I can whip it up pretty fast.

slims- thanks. I wish my contractors all had the same attention to detail :-/

failed plumbing inspection 4 times, so they used a camera and found a broken pipe under the slab. Fixed on Friday, coming back for inspection monday. Hoping to get framing insp done tuesday, and start exterior Wed! But the way things are going (windows+ inspections have taken 2 months) I am not holding my breath :(

Enjoying the build. I really like the design. Is your concept illustration based on a sketchup model? I'd love to get a copy to play around with if you wouldn't mind sharing.

FINALLY a green tag on plumbing. Only 3 weeks, $500 worth of re inspections and having to chop up my formerly perfect garage floor.

Hoping for frame inspection complete Friday, insulation sat, start pounding exterior cladding (dry stack stone) and drywall next week.

To add to misery, here is my sink I ordered 6 months ago for the powder bath :

And the "black walnut" shelf and Vanity I had made for the office bath: (also ordered 6 months ago)

One way to keep it in control is to think long and hard about what you need to do during construction vs. what can be done later. I've done stuff like run Smurf tubes vs. having things pre-wired.

Hey Jordon, the house is really looking great - I'm jealous of the Mini-Split. I'm determined to get mine done this year before summer gets here. Keep up the good work!

I spent my thanksgiving week off running 6000ft of pre wire :) Anything I can DIY I am doing during the construction.

But yea.. mainly focused on stuff that has to be done. the AC was a splurge. I am installing it myself so the costs are under control.

My main issue is getting 220 to my detached garage. It's just on a couple of 20A breakers right now, but I think I want to do it right and put a sub panel out there to give me more flexibility for new stuff in the future. I'm jealous that you are building it to you liking because doing it after is a pain in the ***.

What's the exterior finish going to be?

I ran a 220V sub panel out to my outdoor kitchen at my current place. IT wasnt too bad, since it was the first time I had done anything like that I had to make a few extra calls to the city, but I passed inspection first time.

Most of the exterior is white stucco(smooth finish) with some darker grey dry stack stone on the "bumped out" areas. The strip along the deck will get faced with IPE, or stained cedar.

So how does the patch job on the garage look? Looking at the picture it appears that there is a lot of soil missing, but maybe that's for them to get access to the pipe?

yea, they had to dig around it completely. Inspector made them leave it uncovered so he could verify.

They will refill with dirt (sand around Pipe I believe?) and then re pour that area. Not a big deal, its in the very corner of the garage.. could have been worse.

House is black today! Looks pretty crazy with just the weather proofing on the wood.

Along those same lines you could refer to it as, wait for it, "The Debt Star".

As a fellow traveller in the home building odyssey, hopefully that doesn't hit too close to home (that second pun was largely unintentional). With some of the stuff we've been dealing with on ours humor is the only thing that keeps me from reenacting the baseball bat scene from "The Untouchables".

Jim.. feeling is mutual. My GC mentioned I must be the most patient person in the world. He said even he would have kicked his own *** if he were in my shoes :)

Going on month 13! About to go write another check for the loan extension, and another year of builders risk coverage :-/

Great build. The house isn't my style but I can appreciate the aesthetic. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Love the stair design. I can tell you don't have kids. If you did you would know how strong the force is that draws toddler heads to any kind of exposed sharp edge! ; )

Ha, yea. definitely not designed for kids. Im only 33, no plans on kids for awhile :-D Of course a similar philosophy applies to drunk adults :-/ I already have though about how to protect those edges if/when I need to.

And I have scares on my face to prove that faces find sharp objects when you are young!!

ha. I would love to blame it on some good Vodka, but considering I was at the house working for several hours in the high 20's and raining.. ill blame it on the cold!

More progress! Spray foam dudes showed up this AM, they will be working till Thursday getting that done. Not that exciting for most, but considering how many times I went back and forth on how to insulate this sucker, I am happy to see something go down.

I swung by on the way to work this morning, will snap pics on the way in tomorrow. Going to finish running the inwall conduit for the Scissor Lift this weekend. (outside garage wall.. will get fiberglass).

They only do 5.5inches of open cell on the cold floor above the garage (they said 3.5 to 5.5 is typical). Seeing all that extra space due to my big joists (14") I am thinknig about stuff the void with some non-backed fiberglass. Insulation folks said it wasn't worth it- I would never notice a difference. They said they have never had a call back on 5.5", even when replacing 14inches of fiberglass in a cold floor app.

I won't get into the insulating value potentially gained by adding fiberglass, but I will state that the difference in sound deadening I achieved when adding Roxul to the walls and ceiling of a media room that I added onto to my home was unreal. Since you are adding over a garage, the fire proof aspect is a huge bonus IMO. It is a little more expensive, but worth checking into, it is available in an R30 that should fill your void, if I recall correctly.
