yea, I hate mowing lawns. Growing up my mom LIKED doing it, so i didnt have to. her excuse to get outside and exercise.

I have found some good/inexpensive lawn guys. Hoping they come to the new house. I would rather spend my time working on the house/car/etc.

Your corner lot is tempting for a drunk driver trying to make a turn and missing and plowing through the fence. In Santa Ana, CA we lived in a corner lot and some guy was mad at us and ran his car through our lawn, tires spinning all the time.
You might consider 2 or 3 2,000 lb rocks and several big trees.
Love what you are doing to the house.

You're on the final lap - don't lift now. Sorry, couldn't resist.

Seriously, the place looks fantastic! If you're anything like me, all you see are the stupid little flaws. Everyone else just sees 'awesome' including me.

Just remember, me and LCG are pulling for you as you complete your modern dream house and we plod along with no end in sight. I'm not bitter.....really.

There is a sliding scale of cost and time when it comes to detail, quality and complexity.

if a typical home is a 2, higher end custom a 4, I am building a 6. LL.. you are building probably an 8 or a 9.. and that sliding scale is exponential. Makes mine look easy!

Ain't that the truth, There is so much "details" I hate about the finishing of my house that are practically invisible to other people.

The thing that kills is that you are paying for something with some expectation of the result. If that result is not what you expected you get frustrated because it could have been done RIGHT the first time without any extra effort or cost. Just lazy people doing an average job because they don't care. /rant.

Anyone can build a "flawless" home with a unlimited budget, we are doing "flawless" on a budget.

Be proud and don't point at the flaws, if someone is staring at one about to make a comment just hit them hard and bury them in the garden, plenty of space you have

Carpet took a little while.. but since she deals with this stuff everyday she knew what she wanted.. basically. Carpet pad took awhile, ha.

Audi- This is an insanely quiet street. its in the farthest corner of a small neighborhood, that doesnt (and will never, due to a creek) connect any major roadways together.

Got the OK to move in on the 20th.. I was out of town, so my awesome GF and roommate (2 diff people, heh) plus a few friends moved my stuff out of storage and into my garage.

Still lots left to do, but slowing working through it.. getting about 5 hours of work in each evening.

OK JM, now I'm officially jealous as hell. Moving in? really?? Now your just showing off. Either that or I'm really freaking slow. Yea, well on second thought, maybe that's it.

Seriously though, congratulations on a fantastic effort. Your humility aside, this has been an awesome build and you should be very proud. If it's OK, I'll live vicariously through you and your lovely GF as you move into your beautiful new home. Well done!

I will post a few updates in a few weeks once I have boring stuff like pantry shelving/etc done.

Then I will start on the garage finish out.. plan is to have the garage organized, benches built, lift installed, AC installed, etc by Spring.

been busting my *** 4-5 hours almost every day, and all weekend in b/w my racing sschedule to unpack, clean, finish stuff. I could barely WALK through my 1600sqft garage I had so much stuff everywhere.

Ill update soon.. as I hope to have the garage 50% of the way there in 2-3 weeks.

Also, I had the entry to my driveway removed and replaced.. that sucked. 14" thick! The original dude set the curb WAY too high, Z06 scraped bad. So I had another crew come out remove it, and taper it right into the street.. I think even race cars will make it now :)

and, and my cat freaking loves all the windows. She used to spend a lot of time in bedrooms, now she is laid out all over the place....

Still putting in 40hrs a week on the house, but it is coming together. Garage is some what picked up, but nothing fancy.. Just happy to park cars in there and have room to work on my karts. Built some work benches, etc.

Sonos is up and running, Video distribution is working (HDMI over CAT matrix), fire place, etc.

most of the roller shades are installed and operational via my home controller.

I honestly never thought I would say it is worth it.. but it kinda is now :) I just hope I can get it done before stuff starts breaking and I am back to working on it.

Dugan- Living expenses arent too bad in Dallas, and if you are willing to do it yourself.. you would be surprised what you can achieve. I am an engineer as well. (mechanical).

Wow, what an amazing build Jordon. What are the details on the in-wall touch screen? Is that a phone? How are did you hook it up for charging? Mounting? And what is the cover? I've been hoping to do something similar and that is a really clean install. Thanks!

LCG- Yes.. Several times during the last 10% of the build phase. Especially the drywall, it still is not finished to my satisfaction.. but I had to kick them out. My Girlfriend helped keep me pointed in the right direction.

once I was moved in, and basic living needs were met (I could cook, had a place to hang my clothes) it has been borderline "fun" to finish. My friends, family hate me because I spent all my time on the house... but its slowing up now and actually have been showing my face outside of my house.

Tablet in the wall is running standard OS with just apps to handle house management, music etc. I want to either create a skin to handle certain tasks vs running apps manually.. but if I had to do it over I would probably put a real PC/touch in the wall and use some canned apps for doing that.

Next year (or maybe this winter) I plan to start making the house smarter, mostly surrounding motion, tasks and getting those tablets looking more streamlined. I have a straight forward plan for everything but the tablets.. that is going to require actual coding, and I have very limited software knowledge. Hoping when I start playing with android SDK it is as easy as using visual basic, etc.

GREAT question. ****** part is, I honestly dont know. The wall is straight now. Did they fix it correctly... who knows. I fought and fought and had planned to just fix it myself once night after work.. and then magically the wall was fixed (dry walled and mudded) and they claimed they bolted it.

I have been at that low point for the last month, can't seem to finish and details pop every time I go. Frustration to the point of breaking.

Seeing your house at this point and the fact that you seem happy gives me new hope

Temecula CA, plotting my escape!
Just read through the whole thing. It's awesome, makes me want to sell and move to TX so I can build what I can't afford in CA. Great design and finishes too. One thing though; your pool guy is gonna hate you the first time they have to fix the equipment!
