Got my compressor installed and a roof built over it to protect from elements (pictures coming). I ran a bunch of drops inside the walls all around the shop and 3 hose reels above. I wish I had not messed with the drops in the walls as I have a feeling I will be using the reels mostly. Hopefully the drops will come in handy if I end up with a piece of permenent equip that needs it.

I do wish I had run 1" PVC all all the benches to a integrated shop vac system. That would had been bad ***. have the shop vac controlled with my smart home stuff so I could turn it on from my phone.

Where did you get the brackets that are pictured in message #305 (the brackets that you are storing pieces of pipe on)?

I also love the setup you have for your air compressor and the inside 'plumbing' you did with it.

Your build looks awesome! Could you re-link some more pics of the finished product? I was very sad to find 50%+ of the pictures have been removed :(

Love it Jordon. I wish all the pictures worked (Might be an issue with my internet at the moment).

Congrats on this build. Really gave me some ideas for the house I would like to build in the future.

The big window in the back ground in Post #221 where you and GF sitting and over looking (?), can you not open them up and it seems like most windows are not design to open?

House looks great though

Bummed a lot of the pics are missing, I moved them into an album for the house and I guess the actual spot on the server changed too. doh.

C2-
Mostly non opening windows. The 16ft window in my master is a slider (8ft open in the center) but everything else except the front door is fixed. I had considered some fancier glass sliding walls, but the reality is living in texas I would not really use them all that much. FOr thanksgiving we left the front door open (8x5) and that was nice.

Great looking house and garage. I grew up just down the road from there and my wife and I rented a place just on the other side of Preston while we were building our new home in Sachse.

Do you ever go out to the Dallas Karting Complex? I've gone out there a few times and had so much fun with the rentals I was damn near ready to buy a kart.

Jordon, your place is AWESOME!

Can you tell me where you sourced or who built your address numbers/lighting?

I know the owners out at DKC pretty well, I run the national tour for karting (SKUSA) and our first event last year was there!

Ramntoo-
I designed and built all the light/systems except the numbers. Those were from Luxello. (available online)

Garage is finally usable. Lift is in, all the air hoses run, AC/Heat is in. its not pretty but it is functional.

I put the control box for the lift about 18" farther than the factory hoses will reach.. i think no biggie, Ill get new ones made. $550!!! ouch.

made racks for car tires and race car tires as well.

Adapted some RGB flood lights into plates that are now downlights on my patio. They are attached to a controller that is linked to the outdoor sound... changes colors with the music :)

Super nice place. Love the contemporary feel. I remember you from Camaroz28.com. I seem to remember you being one of the first to go 10's in a LT1 4th gen Camaro.

Beautiful house and very nice garage. I really like that you made the garage more functional than pretty. The house is awesome and really shows off your great design abilities.

How do you like the RapidAir system so far? Does it supply enough air for your needs? I just installed a starter kit but the fittings aren't quite finished so I haven't had a chance to really use it yet. How big is your compressor?

As an architect who changed gears in 2014 to become a building exterior consultant.. with my own dream of someday building a custom home with clean modern details on a REASONABLE budget... I say congratulations!

The thought of wrestling a common home builder past his comfort zone, without just adding 2-3x to the estimate, is my #1 fear.

Good on you for watching like a hawk yet keeping perspective on practical compromises, when necessary. My goal is to design all those compromises into it from the start.. But that'll never happen for everything.

I sure hope the builder took care of the leak and got the details right for the roof/wall and stucco/window joints. That "sticky stone" is like one big wick.. So hopefully there is a good weather barrier behind it.

I know it's last on your priority list but I do hope you will re-link your photos someday.

Thanks for sharing the project.

I have an 80 gallon basic husky 220V belt drive. ~$800 jobber from Home Depot.

The line system seems to do well. I did do a loop so that the farthest fittings get double the hose. Also the compressor is on the side of the garage where 90% of the work is done. In addition I ran a dedicated 3/4" pipe through the wall and capped it where the compressor is. If I ever need to get the most of the compressor, I can always add an air hook up there.

OHS-
The biggest issue is the details. I laid out a ton of details up front, and got a lot of no bids, extremely high bids or "call a commercial guy" (aka $$$).

I had to tread lightly, and push where I could during construction along with doing a LOT myself. Anything that wasnt pretty much standard construction practice I did or should have done myself. The parts I didnt do the first time I am slowly redoing As we speak.

I paid my builder X dollars, at specific intervals. I paid directly all subs for everything. No markups, etc. Only way to do it for this type of construction. "estimates" before the sub is at the site are a joke for something like this.

There is a reason subs/contractors want a minimum of 30% margin on anything that THEY sub.. because of the cluster **** that everything ends up being. ha.

this way I took the 30% margin out, but I also took 100% of the risk. But I got to "pay as a play".. spending where I wanted to. (or had to).

I took on the roof fix 100% myself. found a metal commercial roofing contractor who custom built the section. He knew what he was doing. It was clear from the start I had the right guy. he sketched out on his ipad exactly how he would fix it, and had an exact quote in 10 minutes for me. so far.. so good! luckily I live in a relatively easy climate, other than hail. You dont see a lot of houses with massive rot problems, etc.. unless there are major issues. We have a lot of "drying" time.

BTW, I will try to get all the pictures into a zip and offer them for download.

As I sit here looking out my massive 6x6 window into my yard and tree lined cul-de-sac, 2 cars have stopped to stare at the house.. one took pics. It is quite satisfying..

Do you have hosting problems or do you want to keep the pictures for eyes only?

If the first one is the problem I can host them for you if you like.

Thanks for the update - that's exactly my plan, to use RapidAir quickly, and then add 3/4" pipe when I can find the time to install it.

Have you thought about running the PVC along the base of the wall under the workbenches? It would probably be really hard to see it there and it would still be just as functional as if it were inside the wall.

Yea, I a thinking of something along those lines. Or even just along the back of the workbench where all my material removal/cutting/etc equipment is since you wouldn't really see it.
