You'll have to use a softer flame for the test, I think they burn differently... But any who, thought they have those plenum cables are for....

Monoprice will be providing inspection and removal services for the recalled cable and will provide installation of UL 1666 compliant replacement CMR cable, as approved by the CPSC, free of charge. To the extent you have purchased recalled CMR cable and have yet to install the cable, Monoprice will provide replacement cable. Please check your inventory to determine if you have the cables in stock or, to confirm that they have been in installed.

I read their recall, but I still can't imagine them paying to tear down drywall and repair it. That would be a huge bill.

I watched the burn videos. Thanks to the guys that did that. I put in about 600' of this in, in November 18 when I was building a house. Almost all of it is pulled through the attic and now buried in spray foam insulation. There are a couple of places it goes down the wall and one drop all the way to the basement. It was mostly for POE security cameras. After watching the videos, I plan to.....do nothing. Where I have it pulled, if there is an ignition source big enough for the cable to burn and contribute, I think the whole house will be a loss.

I dunno... In my house they would basically be gutting the entire interior and refinishing it. I have a minimum of 4 jacks per room, and another 8 run up to the attic for security cameras in the soffits. Some of it is run behind my shower wall, kitchen cabinets and appliances, etc.

the bad wire is not gonna spontaneously ignite. It would take an outside source to catch on fire. The issue here is the fire spreading...

I think the Fiberglass insulation in between my walls those R19 burns faster than the cable... especially if you have the paper backed fiberglass insulation. Go cut a patch and try it with a torch....

But just saying if you are going to do a proper test, soft flame will make those jacket burn and catches fire, not a strong propane from a torch. Just saying your test might be flawed.

The paper backing does and the fiberglass does burn... especially the older homes with the older fiberglass. Don't ask how I know

I have 250ft of their CAT6 purchased in 10/2017. Should I use it? I see the recall goes back to 2018, not sure if this indicates the older stuff will be fine, or if that's just what they happened to test (or were somehow required to test)

It was only about $20, so not a huge loss if it's unsuitable.

Maybe I should do a little test on it myself.

Well, crapola. I didn't get the notice, so I'm going to check the jackets. But I've installed at least 2500' feet of this stuff. I did not get a notice and I ordered directly.
They're not answering the phone number that they've provided - not a good sign.

The recall is based on the cable not actually meeting the UL CMR requirements (how odd for an off-shore item...). Probably most of the use of their cable is for residential (only required to be UL CMX or higher. Chances are the cable exceeds the CMX rating, possibly even CM so it's more than likely fine. It's not like it's going to spontaneously burst into flames and spew toxic fumes, ala Bhopal.

A CMR rating means that it can be installed in non-residential environments inside walls, be run through non-air handling plenum areas and pass through floors in high-rises.

Yea, I saw the actual burn tests. It doesn't look particularly flammable to me. The only case that I see as valid would be a high-voltage short (or inductive lightening) that causes the copper to heat up....

This is a big deal to me as I've 2,500 feet of this stuff in walls - easily. Once drywall is up, that's probably $30-40k in tear-out costs, loss of use of the dwelling, etc... Best case, substantial delay in construction until Monoprice gets someone out here who can do it. I've left VMs and sent email to them.

Edit: was able to get through to a person this AM - they have no record of me filling out the recall form - asked me to submit it again. Did confirm that my cable is impacted. Hung up on me, calls back either rang through or went to VM.
