Hi Monte,

I just your posts and mentioned that you also have leinen vises. Today I bought rare leinen D 100 vise which I will try to restore to original state. I was stuck with color code used to paint these vises? Do you any information which color code should I use? Thanks in advance.

Very cool place Monte! I have been kicking around here for quite awhile too and also need to take some pictures of my garage. It is still in somewhat sad shape, but it hasnt stopped me from hoarding some items i like how yours is a very organized mess! It has been cold here the past few days, makes it hard to want to go out there.

I'm still smiling that it took you 9 months or so to drive that EL Camino from California to Germany!!!

in case you want the best penetrating oil I know of it's KROIL, but PB blaster has worked for many too.

I´ve learned a lot about american tools here in this forum, so i hope i make the right choice. If you know where i should stay away from let me know (if it´s not too late already ). I hope these tools which i buy and bought will last forever.....(we´ll see ) ....At least most of them have a lifetime warranty (...which is not valid in germany though.... )
From California all the way down to cape horn and then the ferry to germany...it takes a while .

I can tell you if you like hand tools the ones made prior to 1960 are the ones I love not only the way they work, but they look good too.

Interesting story, I didn’t know about Klein scissors. I have a nail cutter my father brought from USA 40 or so years back and they are still sharp!

With regards to penetrating oil have you tried the 50:50 Acetone:Auto gearbox oil (red one)?

It seems to work very good if you leave it on for a while.

If you don´t exclusively go to the big box store i´m sure you still can find many USA made brands....Snap-On, Wright, Cornwell, SK, Channellock, Klein, Lang, Mayhew, Xuron, Wilde, Pro America, Pratt + Read, Western Forge....just to name a few Old american tools are virtually impossible to find here, but most new amercian tools look like they´re 50 years old... (Channellock pliers didn´t change much, Snap-On hard handle drivers look old etc....). So i´m happy with the new old looking tools too.
I hope it wasn´t my and the cars last ride I´m too young and the car too I also didn`t pay the ferryman yet .
PS: it´s now about 10 p.m. here, in Seattle for example i think it´s 9 hours "back" = 11 a.m. ..... good night, i´m going to bed Have a nice day !

The local indians built a wooden ferry for me and the car so i had to paddle all the way to germany. That´s why it took a bit longer

There are some germans like you described which have the spirit in their mind, some also show it, the Harley riders for example or the "Vanners" (People who drive Chevy or Dodge (etc.) vans), people with cowboy boots, people with indian dreamcatchers hanging from the mirror etc., but many don´t have american spririt ...because they read too much newspaper i guess.....For me personally i have no problems... i wear american made clothes, listen to american music, my grill is american made, i have 2 chevys, soon a tool box filled with USA made goods, i was in a shooting club, i played american football in my youth, my very first car i bought was a 1990 Chevy Caprice classic.....(+ i had a 1983 Cadillac Coupe deVille, 78´ Monte with T-Tops, 1977 Lincoln Mark V) and Disneyland is great ...

Yes it´s a "Hella SEG 19" headlamp adjusting tool. It belongs to a garage buddy. Don´t have more pics but here is a internet pic of a similar SEG 18 model.

I don´t know how many american cars are driving around here, but it won´t be many. The only american cars which you officialy can buy here are Jeep brand products. Everything else is pretty much grey market. (The Corvette might be officially imported/I don´t know if this will be continued since the Opel brand don´t belong to GM anymore....). Ford sells EU Fords over here and GM sold Opel cars here....So it´s pretty sad. There are old american cars since some were imported officially to germany until the 1980´s ( i guess the exchange rate was good ?). But most old cars you´ll see are german or british. In case of motorcycles for example only 5% of cycles (total) here are from Harley Davidson. A reason might be the size of older cars and the gasoline consumption... One liter gasoline currently costs like 1.36 Euro which means a gallon is 5.70 dollar over here....

The Autobahn is free of charge for cars. Trucks with more than 7.5 tons weight have to pay. Normal streets usually have 1 lane in each direction, main streets usually 2 lanes in each direction. Larger streets with 3 or more lanes are seldom...The main streets and the Autobahn are usually in good condition and wide enough (if you can drive )

Actually I don´t drink beer... However sometimes I drink a so called "Radler"/"Alsterwasser" which is usually a mix of 50% beer and 50% lemonade....It tastes good ice cold.... I couldn´t drink a case of beer nor a case of ice tea without feeling anything I don´t know maybe something is wrong with me

I wish I would have kept my old Leinen 150m vise cause it was one of my favorites, but a friend still has it and he's still happy and he keeps saying it's not coming back. how do you like yours?

I think the HEUER vice has a under bench mount and it can be positioned in all sorts of positions so wondering if you've seen it or maybe you own one?
