Willy, nice garage. Very similar to what I am thinking. I may add a small porch to give the effect of a "smaller" garage. We'll see. Also, going to do the high ceiling over one bay. Did you use attic trusses over the rest for storage or just a standard truss? I like the rear door idea too. I was thinking maybe a small service door for lawn equipment. How do you like the 30' depth?

A picture of my Dart. It hit the road in Sept for the first time in 11 years. You Challengers are awesome.

@pigag2 - I found these at Lowes, I bought 3 of the 12 in and they make an 8 in which I bought for the side door.

@Crazy68Dart. Thanks! So a couple things, on the depth - 30 ft is adequate but my original intention was 40ft, I was limited by local codes to not have the building be in front of the front setback which is the house front, and a well behind the garage/house that required a 25' setback - so not happy but is what it is. At some point I may see about a new well or inquire about city water tap in which would free me up to expand this building with a 24x30 addition incorporating the back door for access to it.

On the back door - since I couldn't put the building back further I figured I could use the old driveway behind to store other project cars, get yard equipment access like you suggest, and future planning since I have another 2 acres of heavily wooded property

On the trusses - they are standard trusses, which I think now in hindsight was a mistake, I now would have preferred to have attic trusses, not for a room as it's not tall enough to stand in but could have been awesome storage space. Also I would have done one more scissor truss wider than they put in only because I wanted a bit more width for the lift.

You're Dart is simply Awesome!! One of my project cars is a 72 Dart GT I hope to renovate into a restored as someone had already set it up for street drag

Had a bit of good luck yesterday, I've been researching on replacing my Harbor Freight 20 gal 2.5 hp air compressor with something more appropriate for the shop and the work I want to do. I found that a majority of the 3 hp 60 gal units available are made by only 2 or 3 companies and white labeled, all run in the $399-$699 range with similar specs, it came down to customer service and deal.

I went to tractor supply, lowes, HD and Northern Tool. Northern Toll won, made me a deal I couldn't refuse, a Puma 60 gal, 3 ho unit with the specs I wanted - floor price was $538, they matched the web price of $499 and I had a $20 coupon, the register clerk said no and gave me a $50 coupon instead!! Plus they will hold it for 10 days while I finish the building, get my C/O and finish the floor

99% done!!! Gutters installed - piped the downspouts from the house and the garage to the back and 55 tons of crush and go out down for a new driveway and parking pad !!

Tomorrow is final inspection then I can be energized by the power company and plan my move in

I went ahead and had the floor densities and sealed for now - just couldn't afford to have it epoxied right now - shame too since it likely will never be this clean and empty again lol

Some pics from just now

Finally!! Got the final inspection and certification of occupancy day after Christmas - electrical connection is in order could be two weeks due to holidays

I can start insulating now - R13 for the entire garage - OSB for the back walls where I'll have workbench, shelves etc - I'm going to build a compressor closet in the back corner to cut down on noise. Sheetrock on the sidewalks wil work fine then a LOT of painting

Been a long time but I'm happy to report that I've finished the rough in of the walls - 16 4x10 sheets of firerock and 20 sheets of OSB - I have a compressor closet being build by the framer tomorrow which is what the pre-hung door and 2x4s are for - he can to it in an hour where it would take me a day

Next is to warm up just a bit so I can mud and tape - sand sand sand - paint paint paint

Oh and I still don't have power - Duke Energy can't seem to figure out they haven't actually buried the wire from the pole to the garage yet but keep sending someone to install a meter - ugh

Will need to wait until the weekend to muscle the Puma compressor in thereImageUploadedByTapatalk1421089039.523715.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1421089056.758115.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1421089064.342269.jpg

nice build, similar to the size of my pole barn just a different orientation.

What thickness OSB did you use?

we used 5/8 but I noticed in a couple places a sheet of something slightly thinner was mistakenly snuck in - it stands out because it's so much lighter in color

Finally!! In some nasty weather today the power company showed up - 2 months late and buried a 260ft power line to the building. Totally F'd my yard and driveway but oh well.

Worst part was after all that they came up 5ft short and had to splice. Meter and transformer connection later this week

Thanks Mike, we relocated to Charlotte in 1990 from Pittsburgh and glad we did. This house is on 4 acres and we're surrounded on 3 sides by neighborhoods of McMansions on 1/3 acre for $600/$700+ k - this area right on the NC/SC border is just so nice, still heavily wooded and rural but only 10 miles from the city

I just noticed that you have a challenger also . I had a 70 R/T big block , lime green . I was a fool to sell it , I sure miss it . My son lived close to you in Fort Mill until last year . He just had a house built on the west side of Rock Hill on 2 acres . I can't wait to get down there myself .

Mike.ASC. It is nice here. We are building in west Rock Hill also on 1.25 acres. Not as much as Willy's but enough for the extra garage.

So nice to have power and some decent weather!! Lots of work left to do - tape/mud - sanding and tons of paint then clean up before I can move in but thankful for decent light to work out here at night now!

Thanks Sean - I realize that my build is sorta plain, basic and boring compared to some of the unique or frankly incredible builds I've enjoyed reading about on here for years. But I've waited 10+ years to get even this much. Thanks to all the other basic or awesome builds I learned a ton to help it go easier and be well thought out.

Frankly I can't wait to get it painted and finally move in and begin to make it my own. Appreciate the kind words and feedback for sure

Been awhile since I've posted - weather and work get in the way lol

On to the next steps - I've decided I know my limitations and I'm hiring out some of the work. Drywall finish out and paint. Paint only because of time, the delays have put me way behind for moving in finally and installing the lift

Hey ya'll - good god I've been busy with anything but my garage it seems - hate that!! But I've had a ton of progress of late, completed all the trim work and had a painter come in to spray the ceiling and walls.

Let me tell you I regret choosing OSB only for the fact it's so difficult to paint. But we persevered and completed it

Time to begin moving in finally - here are some pictures of current status

So I'm beginning to move in now that the painting is done - to save money I'm trying to reuse some of the items from the old garage. I managed to move my tool chest up the steep incline without dying. My daughter drove our riding tractor slowly while my son and I stabilized - no issue

Second was a decent 130" x 3' workbench, I detached it from the old wall, put it on a moving dolly and painted it black - was gangly to move but got it up into the garage on my own - as you can see from the pictures it needs to be leveled and lag bolted to the wall

I want to change the surface of the workbench from basic plywood was suggestions does anyone have

picked up a couple cabinets ( 1 large and 3 small ) and a set of shelves. I'd like to build a strong large storage shelf above the workbench for rubbermaid storage tubs and have the 3 smaller cabinets just below - reachable from the bench

Finally got a chance to use the shop for what it was built for this past weekend. I fixed a phantom grill and installed Halo color changing lights on his Challenger. I was able to use my new wheel dollies to move my Challenger off to the side one handed - very happy

Finally able to get some time in the garage - working on cabinets and a shelf above the work bench - still working on the plan for running air from the compressorImageUploadedByTapatalk1432524082.865403.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1432524093.951980.jpg
