We used to use Craftsman tapes at my work (we measure stuff for a living), they were my favorite for many reasons but one big reason was the warranty and ease of rebuilding them with replacement tapes whenever they snapped. It sucked when they stopped warrantying them years back. I still haven't found a tape I like as much as those Craftsmans from 10yrs ago. We're using FatMax tapes now but I hate those things (glad I'm not out there measuring anymore). They are strong because they're "fat" but I'm not a big guy, my hands aren't big, so they feel massive in my hand and aren't very practical. It burned my rump when I took my craftsman tape measure back for warranty replacement and they gave me a Stanley in return...the manager claimed that it's only for the tape measures because they were losing too much money on them....my question to him was "how long you think it'll be before they start doing that on everything?" He simply replied that he didn't think they would but he wasn't sure. I hope they turn it around because I'm a fan of their tools since I can't justify paying 10 grand for a set of snap on screwdrivers
FYI, they gave you a Stanley because craftsman no longer makes a tape measure... I had a similar experience a couple years ago and couldn't believe it when they told me that. I knew then that they were done as a brand. I realize that cheap HF freebies and the like have made it a losing battle but what "tool" company no longer makes a measuring tool as simple as a tape measure?
