I'm more disconnected from the automotive industry now than I used to be so I fully depend on other people's experiences to help me decide which tools are and aren't worth buying. I've found out about some great tools by reading along on GJ. Gave the GearWrench ratchets a shot (pre-china). Found out that Snap-on's CDI brand made excellent torque wrenches. Found out that the old Snap-On screw drivers can be had under the Williams logo (very similar to the old SO's) and somewhere the Williams ratcheting screw driver(s) also came up. Got some great Ball Pein Dead Blow hammers after learning about TrustyCook.com. Introduced to Mayhew where I got some sweet pry bars and various service pics...those are some just to mention a few.

The value of the recommendation is in the eye of the beholder so I get that I'm not looking for just any old recommendation. Over the past couple of days I've started jonesing for the surfacing of the next unknown good one. How does one ask the masses to hurry it up already?

So you want some great tools...Stop by your local sears outlet store and pick up a craftsman Industrial set of wrenches made in the USA. Still sitting at your computer well you better hop in your car and hit all the stores and pick up a few Nicholson files; mind you read each file and only buy the ones that say made in the USA because they are going to be gone soon before you can blink your eyes.

Still looking for great tools...Grey pneumatic impact sockets, Sunex impact sockets, Harbor freight tools (look for the orange dead blow hammers) I swear those things can take a lot of abuse and still come back for more.

You better not be still looking at your computer you better be out shopping!

Go randomly browse Epstein's site until you find something to deplete your checking account.

I was thinking about telling him about Harry Epsteins but then I thought his funds would be dry before he looked into my above products.

NOTE: Epsteins does not carry any USA files, OP you better hurry if you are still sitting down those hand files are going fast...

Thanks for the replies. I don't need another wrench, bought the useful stuff from Harbor Freight (have three of their dead blows), have dozens of American made files, half a drawer of Sunex universal joint and std impacts, a multitude of pliers, clamps...I got a lot of ****. I think what I was really looking for is more MFGs that pro mechanics give the nod to. Good quality stuff that's worth taking a loo at. I won't be back to Sears because their customer service, business policies, and practices (unrelated from going overseas) have driven me away as a customer never to return. Their wrenches could be gold sold for the price of poop and I would make the drive. Anyway, i really like my Williams screwdrivers...more ideas like that is what I'm looking for. Thanks.

Don't forget Wilde. USA made prybars, pliers and much more. They're made in Kansas. Wilde is the OEM for the Craftsman prybars with red hard handles.
