Most you would spend on a pocket knife?

I collect knives so it is nothing for me fo fork out $200+ for something I want, but for my general carrying knife I have a Kissing Crane congress that I have carried since high school that I generally have in my pocket, about $50 when it was new. My beater knife though is a Kobalt razor blade/ knife blade deal I carry on my side for my junk cutting. Now on Sundays it is untelling what I might have as it may range from a Boker or a junker.

I have a Kershaw Leek. Hands down the best knife I've owned. Small profile, light, easy to carry, and wicked sharp. I have the black one which has a coating on it to protect from scratches and stuff. I paid around $55 for it on ebay.

My previous edc knife was a CRKT M16. It was okay, I got it for around $45 and it was a decent knife. Can't compare it to the Kershaw though. It was big and bulky and a little awkward to carry.

I also like Benchmades and Spydercos, but have never had to buy one yet . I am not impressed with Gerbers, they just seem cheap and awkward to handle.

I also have a modest collection, and bought a Chris Reeves Small Sebenza as the star piece. But it sits in the box since I'm afraid I'll damage it if I used it for daily carry.

While most of my knives make rotation throughout the year, the one I pick if I really need to do some work is the Spyderco Native with CPM S30V blade steel. It opens in less than a second with a simple flick of the thumb, has a great ergonomic shape, and it stays sharp longer than most of my other knives. It used to cost less than $40 at Walmart, but i think they may have gone up a bit in price---still a bargain for a USA made knife with high-tech steel.

Oy, this is a question I probably shouldn't have asked - there are now a few new items added to my wishlist!

I'm quite frugal, but do believe in paying for quality. Getting something of quality and inexpensive is quite the bonus.

I remembered about your post. Maybe 3 months ago I ordered something similar from Coast. I still have it around, but I'm not too happy with its size. It also felt like it needed to be broken in. =( It's still around here, somewhere... but my Gerber Paraframe is still my most-used knife at home. Well, with the exception of my steak knives.

I have 3 Kershaws, one of which I have on me every day. Great knives, easy to sharpen and hold an edge a long time.
My favorite knife though is a Boker I've had since 1999. It goes with me any time I head to the woods. It's just a little large for EDC.
I also have a spyderco, but just never have been impressed with them.
Used to work with a guy that had a Benchmade. He flat out abused that knife and it never failed him. I was impressed with it.

My everyday carry knife is a Schrade Old Timer OT4 stockman. It was made in Ellenville New York and has the old carbon steel blades. I paid about 12 dollars for it maybe ten years ago and think that was a really great value. At the time, I even bought some older Schrades and older Camillus pocket knives for my son, who wasn't even born at the time, just so he'll know what a good inexpensive USA made knife was like.

For most pocket knives, I usually like to keep the price under 50 dollars. Really good US made pocket knives can be bought for that price. But I've also spent more. I've paid over $100 for Spydercos that I think were worth the money. The most I've ever paid was when I bought a Pat Crawford custom made folding knife at an old internet auction site for about $200 and I still think that was a steal.

I've also bought a custom made John Greco fixed blade knife for about $180 direct from John Greco. Greco knives are really rugged and they really are a great value and he made my knife with the modifications I wanted on it.

My everyday pocket knife is a Buck 110. I paid about $45.00 if I recall correctly. A little big for the pocket but I dont like to wear it on a belt.

Calif is a bit nuts about taking knives and not giving them back, so I would not dare take a good knife out of the house, but have a few like the original Syderco PIG. EDC is a Gerber Shortcut, which I use the scissors on mostly. I have a handful of mini box cutters I paid like a quarter each for that are VERY handy, sharp short blade perfect for opening up boxes etc. All my tool boxes have the cheap HF version of the lockback boxcutter, as well as cheap big lockback conventional knife, and cheap steak knife with a saw edge.

All my "used" knives are way overdue for a session with the crock sticks.

Really? I haven't encountered this at all. Was even arrested once with my $130 Kershaw and it was returned to me.

Yeah...we're in a bit of a nanny state. Actually, I'm not sure if its the rest of the country or just here in Victoria (south east Australia)...I'm pretty sure other states have clamped down too. Hopefully other GF member from other states can comment.

It was pretty much a political knee jerk reaction after we had some pretty nasty knife attacks at train stations and night clubs. We let in a heap of immigrants from parts of Africa, where to get what you want you ask with a knife or a gun shoved in the other persons face! We had some really nasty gang related stuff happen and this was the response - fine anyone carrying a knife who couldn't explain how its used in their job, a $1000.

Lets not support the new immigrants a bit better, or perhaps filter who does come here (ex child solders? If we do let them in, do we just let them lose on the street?), lets just fine everyone who carries a knife!

You should check out the Kershaw Skyline if you like the Leek. They sell for 25-35 range.

My EDC is the Zero Tolerance 0551. Great value considering its a frame lock titanium with ELMAX steel. Purchased for 225.00.

Most I ever paid for a knife was a custom built Kershaw Folding Field. Real MOP grips and not the Phenolic. Silver plated bolsters and custon sheath. 300 dollars. Knife was made in Japan.

I used to live in a rural community in a lumber town where everybody hunted and fished. Many folks had knives strapped to their bodies and no one thought twice about it. Then I moved to the capital city and opened a photo studio downtown. The 1st woman who came in for a passport photo almost fainted when she saw one of my hunting knives on the counter. About 60% of the following customers commented negatively about it too so I eventually had to conceal it. That was in 89 and I haven't packed a knife since. Man do I miss livin in the sticks.

When I went to Cal in around 1970 I bought a buck 110 for I think $19.00 in Frisco. It's what I wore in the case unless I was going hunting and took a fixed blade. I filed the corners down as you can see in the photos just because I thought there was too much handle on them. The other folding knife in the photo is an Opinel #8 Virobloc Brevete that I threw in the photo because it has such nice patina.

That's a mistake. My daily carry for several years is a Chris Reeve Sebenza. Mine was a gift, but cost was about $325.

I just got this Kershaw Random Task 2 last week. It's U.S. made, spring assisted and just has a quality feel to it.

I overpaid on the Snap-On truck on an impulse buy, but it looks to be around $70-80 online.

They look better when scuffed up a bit - think of it as patina. . I'll have to take a pic of mine. Daily carry for 8 years or so - I tried to find something better, but can't.

Normally a Gerber multi-tool, got a Fairbank/Applegate Gerber one time, really nice knife, you would think that a chartered military civilian aircraft could keep knives on them, not, they told us to put them in a box in the belly of the plane, I said no thanks too much trouble and tossed it in the customs box in Kuwait.

Try Ebay, my local knife dealer has not been able to get new ones for a few years.
