Greetings!
I don't think you have talked about getting the stumps gone at some point, I wanted to share my solution for getting rid of them.
I have used this method on about 40 stumps, and it works great.
My average stumps are very big, and this has made it much easier.
The goal is to get them on fire, I build the burn pile on top of them.
Once there started a put a big fan on them and let the fan run for about 30 minutes and then move the fan around the pile.
It takes some time but nothing like just trying to burn them.
It usually takes about 2-3 burns due to dirt insulating the wood, I do my best to remove it before.
Stumps pull in a large amount of water and are hard to burn when freshly pulled.

Hi Thanks for this. We discussed with the contractor early on and nowadays there are not places to get rid of them and it would have been an added big expense. We also discussed digging a large hole and burying them, however this would entail taking out more trees to have any area large enough due to the amount of stumps we have.

In the end, the stumps are piled in the area where all top soil and brush, etc. were relocated. It is far away from the building and you will never see it with a 60'long x 20' high structure. With the options I had we are fine with this solution for now and luckily we have the land to be able to do this. In the future if we get a tractor I may work on breaking down the pile.

On another note, it scares me burning anything up here, due to being surrounded by all my woods. Maybe I am being too cautious, but I have not burned large brush piles etc. being surrounded by so many other potential fire sources.

Wonderful property you have there! I'll be following along as you build your shop.

One question I have though, why subject yourself to 4 hours of plowing snow with an ATV? If it was me I'd be putting a plow on that super duty Ford and be nice and toasty warm.

Thanks! LOL, yeah plow on ATV is kinda small. When we moved here in 2019 we knew we would need something and that is what we got to solve the issue. I don't mind the plowing. Plenty of time for upgrades in the future I guess...........

And I see you have a motorcycle... Great riding in WV. Im not that far from WV when I am in PA and plan to do some long weekends there riding once I have a little more free time

I have had many bikes in the past. That was a 2017 HD Road glide, loved it. I bought it in Texas and rode there and in California a lot when we were there. When we moved here in 2019, it sat and I didn't ride it at all. I sold it and got another ATV. The ATV's are getting more use here.

Well since everything is on hold due to weather, I have to keep myself busy somehow.........................I have been ordering ALL new tools and a Snap On 40" tool cart for the new shop. As with anything I get involved in, I jump feet first and go all in. Building a new shop I can't move my old tools in there, that would be just Crazy 😁

I can relate to that! Wife can't park in her spot because of things waiting to go in to the shop. And I had to press my GC to get the drywall done in time to move in a local used lift before the seller moved to Dallas.

Got a quote for my concrete today..................

40x60 pad smooth finish
40x30 apron broom finish
5x5 man door pad
4x6 pad for welding table I have

4000 PSI concrete 4" control joints and fiber mesh
All forming, gravel grade and pour $25,500

I think this is good, I had a imaginary # in my head for budget and that was 25K. I thought it would be closer to 30K realistically. We are happy with this number.

Thoughts?

Berkeley Springs is beautiful!! I grew up in the northern panhandle of WV. During the autumn each year, my dad, uncle and I would travel to Berkeley Springs to hunt and camp in the Sleepy Creek WMA. It remains a special place to me. Congrats on your ongoing project there.

Thanks again. We are so fortunate to have found our dream property. The area and people are so nice. We are proud to call West Virginia our home.

What a beautiful property! I know what you mean about can't wait. It becomes all encompassing and consumes your thoughts. Waiting on the snow to melt would be tough for me with the stage you're at in the build. Sounds like a good plan however to fill it up with new tools before it's even built! Mine was full before I put the deposit down.....

Thank you! We are finally getting some temps above freezing to melt some of it. Getting concrete quotes and spray foam quotes for the ceiling. I am stacking the new tools up waiting............................ 😁

Welcome to West Virginia from a native. Enjoy your stay in a beautiful area of this country.

Thank you! We are proud to call West Virginia our home, Best State in the Country. We are so fortunate to have moved to such a beautiful State. I already told my wife just spread my ashes in the woods, I am never leaving. 😁 Hopefully that is no time soon.

Been getting a couple of quotes from Concrete guys. After doing some reviews on the first quote, several people were not happy with the work they did. Called a couple more and was till waiting on their quotes.

Today, I talked to my local guy who did some work for me this past year. He removed the old wood and put down a new slab outside my walk out basement. Great guy and does excellent work! After speaking with him today, I am going with him. The town I live in is not very big and being a new comer, I have been lucky to have found some great resources and built relationships. I would rather support my local guys.

They scheduled the building install and sent me paperwork. This included the contract and drawing to review to ensure everything was correct, Which it is.

  1. Deliver materials and equipment 4/12 1st
  2. Drill and start 4/15
  3. Tentative OHD install 4/18
We are excited, finally getting some decent temps here during the day and the majority of our snow is gone.........................

Some progress today. 😁 Our snow is gone for the most part and we (excavator and I) spent time on measurements and marking the pad. We staked out the 4 corners and used the laser level to mark where grade will have to come to. The orange ribbon on the rebar is how much it needs to come up. This is no surprise, we knew this and it is 10x better than the other building locations previously chosen before we started. Ground levels are very deceiving, what looks fairly level to the eye is way off in reality.

Some more shots of the corners marked. I also spray painted the perimeter walls and marked the garage doors and walk in door. Nice to have more of a visual.

I hear you on ground levels being deceiving. Mid April is just around the corner. I always wondered what was behind the wood fence...is that a generator?

Yes a 16k Generac, powers the whole house, kicks on automatically when power goes off. Very nice to have. That and the 500 gallon propane tank were things I could not move and we have to work around. In the end when it is all done, I have some ideas to make everything blend in nicely.

Nice place, we passed thru the area over Christmas. Sorry, but I do have a small correction, its not a guide wire, its a guy wire. The power company can do whatever they want, but if I was them, I would install a new anchor about 5' off the pole with a new guy. The sidewalk guy usually includes a piece of horizontal pipe about 10' off the ground to give headroom if you walk under it and it isn't needed in this case.

Thank you! Thanks I will correct that, I appreciate letting me know. I don't know what I don't know, LOL. I will talk to them again and see what they can do that will work the best.
