...Also I know a guy with a flatbed that got pulled over by a cop who told him he was not allowed to move a tool box because it was considered " commerce". Didn't get a ticket so IDK if the cop was just hassling him or what.

Some companies license their rollbacks to haul commodities in addition to rigs. The last company I worked for had the deck I drove licensed to haul commodites. This encompasses everything except for cars that you can load on the truck. I have hauled toolboxes and even a pre-fab shed on that thing.

I understand this can be an issue in the US, what you license your deck for limits what you can use it for. Strictly speaking, that is also true in Alberta, but my deck has a Class 1 plate, Public Service, which allows me to haul whatever I want on the back- save for my personal vehicles (my Safety Fitness Certificate does not allow for "owned vehicles" to be transported). There are also different insurance requirements for vehicles and cargo, most of which I provide myself.

I have hauled almost everything from a 4'x4' box of excavator parts to a 12'x20' yard shed, parts from a drilling rig going for paint, boats on broken trailers, to collector cars and rods & restos.

whats "custom" about it??? Not seeing anything special... :dunno:

In the first picture, top left of the drawer bank there's the oval label; that said "Custom Built For <My Customer>", and when I was chatting to him at the drop, he mentioned it was a custom unit. I know next-to-nothing about custom SO boxes, but I saw no reason to doubt him. My own personal observation was that it seemed a taller box than similar ones of that type: most come up to about my hips; this one was about gut height.

first off let me say, good job.

Thanks! First time I moved a toolbox, I was scared witless. Now that I have a system I am happy with, it goes much easier.

second, that looks pretty much like a standard snappy box IMO. may have ordered it with some different drawers in it, but not custom.

See above comments about this. Maybe to him a different drawer arrangement is custom. What do you have to do to get the "custom built" label?

wish i would have snapped some pics of how mine has to be loaded (gets j hooks just like a car in a way) and the straps my guy uses are like 8" wide (last company before them damaged my lid to my top box over strapping it with narrow straps leaving indents in the lid, but they bought me a new lid)

J-hooks? Eeek. That said, if you are happy with the service, it's safe and legal, and it's not damaging your rollcab, I'm not going to sit here and gainsay something I haven't seen. Wide straps are fine; I use the 2" ones you see because that's the most common equipment I have, and relatively adaptable to different boxes and circumstances. I have a set of short 4" and some removable winches for them, but they get used on sheds from a specific customer.

Who knows.... maybe it is custom. I think different triple bank KRL tool boxes are different heights (slightly). My snap on catalog grew legs and walked away and I dont like using their website to look stuff up. I prefer the "old school" catalogs. ;)

On a side note I used to work for a Subaru dealer and the dealer in the next town over made his own "Special and Limited Edition" stickers. It caused me more headaches and aggravation than you can believe! I'd get body shop orders asking for "special and limited edition" badges that the never existed! I really think it was a plan just to make a sale.... "Look what we have here on the lot today.... "Its a "Limited Edition Subaru STI!" :willy_nil Basically what Im trying to get at is I wouldn't put it past a independent Snap on salesmen to slap a "custom" badge on a toolbox just to make a sale. I will admit that some of the custom colors snap on does for their boxes look cool but not "full retail price cool."

Kudos to you Slurpee King for taking time to strap down the roll cab properly. Ive read a couple horror stories on here. Casters bent, top tool box lid dented.. etc etc.

Davefr- Its nice to see Uhaul has a trailer that will do 2000 lbs. My biggest issue is one day I plan on moving this... (the one on the left AND the one on the right... the middle one is gone). Obviously the one on the right will be cake... the one on left will be fun.

I think the bottom weighs 800 lbs (?) the top weighs 400 (?)... I recently added a locker (not in the picture). I guess that weighs another couple hundred lbs. So now we're at around 1500 lbs. Oh yeah... and then theres the stuff inside. :lol_hitti This is somewhat of an old pic... Ive added more stuff since then :willy_nil (Yes I need my head examined)

Unfortunately I think Im over the 2000 lbs mark with all my ****. Ive been looking to add a second locker too! My plan is to get a wheel dolly(s) under the locker(s) and load them ever so carefully on a flatbed. From there load my **** into a HEAVY DUTY pickup and pray to god it takes the weight. When Im ready to unload my **** call ANOTHER flatbed and reverse the process. In "fantasy land" I wanna move far far away from NJ and I couldnt justify paying a guy with a flatbed to move my stuff nor would I trust a freight company.

Edit: I guess if you really wanna split hairs I could take some of the heavy stuff outta my boxes to get closer to the 2000 lbs weight limit on a Uhaul trailer.. Then Id be pulling my hair out trying to figure out where to put my junk in the meantime... Its just a bad situation all the way around.

metalhead ..You work out of your house now ?

lol... I dont work on cars anymore full-time. I am a ******** car guy/tool enthusiast. Presently unemployed and looking for a job. What can I say.... while some people spend money on vacations, living the good life, fancy clothes, ect ect.... I like spending money tools and making things in my garage. I also a big DIY'er when it comes to home repairs. Ive dabbled in electrical, plumbing, heating, woodworking, metal fab, autobody, auto repair as a career for a handful of years.... Im a jack of all trades MASTER AT NONE! ;)

Edit: I rarely send out work on my own car(s)... Im just never happy with other peoples work. I recently sent out my firebird for a roll bar. The guy who installed it talked a good game.. Im not too thrilled about the work. If I ever want a roll bar in another car I'll spend money on a welder, upgrade my electrical box to support a "heavy duty" welder, practice practice practice welding till Im confident I can I can do welds that are "safe" for a roll bar. Is that cost effective?? Hell no! Im just a firm believer if you want something done right DO IT YOURSELF! Hence the big tool boxes...

Other then cost, moving the SOB has kept me from upgrading from the KRL 1022. The last couple of years I have been shuffled between different branches of the dealership and it is just that three guys can push it on a trailer. Snappy would move it, but is chucked full and would have to be unloaded for a liftgate. Until my tools are home and I'm NEVER moving again, I won't go any larger. I may add a side box since that can be removed.

Older thread, I know. But... all of them can be "custom". When I bought my box, I got this flyer-

Tape all of the drawers shut! The last time I moved my box across the garage I hit a spot where all the drawers opened at once and I had tools flying everwhere! Not fun.

lucky it didn't tip over.i've seen that happen a couple times and i'm pretty sure i cried both times.lol.
