Hey GJ,

I'm a little late on doing a thread but I've been making great progress lately and figured I'd share...

It's a 30x40x12 pole barn. My main plan was to have a lift...but as I built I had more ideas, which just adds more money.

First pictures are from last year and earlier this Summer.

So I got the idea I wanted a bathroom. It took some extra work, but I'm sure it'll be worth it...then I couldn't help myself and just kept thinking about having radiant heat. :rocker:

And of course I left room for my lift...

Thanks Cobbler!

RC,
Yeah, I hope so...I've never done radiant in concrete before. I hear it's great when you open bay doors. The recovery time is super fast!

So earlier this Summer I bought a bike that needed some rebuilding...took some time to finish, but I told myself when I was done I'd enjoy it until Fall, sell it, and use the $ for the garage.

Been slow going lately...unfortunately, funds have been tight. I finally got to "use" the garage properly for some storage though! I hated seeing my caddy sit under a car cover in the weather. Nice part is I have it on rolling dollies so I can move it while I do work.

Few updates on the garage...it's been slow going lately. Funds are low, but I found a deal on some factory seconds of insulated concrete forms. There was so much of it, I figured I'd use it for wall insulation.

2 1/2" EPS foam. It interlocks with each other so it's pretty sturdy once it's together.

Good find. Nothing wrong with taking your time; however, it gives you a while to think of different ways to spend more money...lol.:bounce:

Finally finished the first stage of insulation...my wife and I just had a baby, so getting some quality garage time has been limited. I had to do a lot of work at 2hr clips. It's done tho. Next step will be 2" of spray foam to seal the cracks and bind everything together.

On a side note, I have lots of extra material. It's 2 1\2" EPS foam 16" wide by 36"x24"(large outside corners) 24"x12"(small inside corners). I have well over 25+ of the large corners and 20+ short inside corners. Not to mention pieces... anyone interested, feel free to PM me. I'll give you a great deal.

Made some great progress in the past month. Finally got the spray foam done!! Long story, but I ended up getting 2" of CC instead of OC foam. Not quite the quality I was hoping for, but I got a good deal on the job.

Bob I am a next state member VT 50 miles due east [a little south] of lake george........some comments.......The bathroom roughin it will be the second best thing you done [next to having that little one] the OC foam should be more than enough with those foam interlocking panels........looks tight enough to heat with a fart!!!!!! no really the radient floor heat will be the greatest I put it in and did a good insulating job and in the winter set at 57 degrees it makes a comfy work area I believe in set it and forget it I swear it uses less fuel to heat it than constant up and down heating of the huge mass [floor, contents, tools etc]....I have builders remorse with not roughing in a bathroom just for the sink to wash up amonst other old farts problems............keep the posts comming and good health to you and yours..........Bobbycoke

Thanks guys! I appreciate the kind words.

bcoke,

I know exactly where you are. I go camping around that area and do trout fishing around the Metawee river and small streams nearby. Nice little area!

I bought one of those cheap sheetrock lifts on eBay this past winter. It's definitely cheap, but it does the job. I've done the entire ceiling myself. Just finished the last panel earlier this morning...but I had to take a break. The NE is getting hit with crazy heat these past few days. So working up on scaffolding has been brutal!:shocking:

I added another vw to my collection!

Long story, but 2 of my brothers bought this car back in 2005 from CT. Low mileage and in great shape. All 3 of us are VW fans and throughout years of collecting parts and cars we all pooled our money together to build it. We had grand ideas to do a stroker motor or ABF clone. We got close a few times, but kids and a few house moves later and it never quite happened.

I didn't have a house or a garage at the time and my one brother took the honors of storing it. But with him moving again, I thought it was time to take it. Now I have a total of 6 vehicles at my house! 4 VW's, a Toyota, and a Syclone.

Here is some of the progress I've made so far...

Hi Bob,
Just found your thread, love your cars. I am a VW fan (86 GTI was my college car) and am not too far away from you.

I am considering finish materials for inside my garage and would like to know where you purchased the metal panels for your ceiling and lower walls? looks great Im giving it consideration.

looks like you have a nice winter project and the perfect place to work.

Thanks Matt!

Nice! My first was an 88' 16v. Been hooked ever since.

The wall panels I got from a place called Builders First Source out of Mexico, NY. At the time they had better pricing than any local place I tried to order from...I got trim, screws and all the panels from them.

Nice garage and nice cars!

Thanks a lot, warrens!!

Garage came out great!!

I am a sucker for those VW as well... love them all but I do have a special crush for the early Scirocco and GTIs (the design by Giorgetto Giugiaro is just timeless, imho of course). Hope that I can find one (1974-1981 VW Scirocco) after we settle in the new house.

Keep the updates and photos coming!

I don't know if you know Pat from PA, but I thought that was his 'ruck for a second!

Nice cars (I have a white MK2 Golf languishing in the driveway), and great work on the garage. Wish I had a bathroom in mine.

What's the R value of the EPS you installed?

Thanks guys! Love seeing all the VW fans here! I got a motor build in the works for the long winter months. I'll be sure to keep everyone updated.

I love that Beetle Wachuko!! Big fan of the roof rack. I often get ideas of buying an aircooled VW, but I get worried it would be another addiction and I'd start collecting those too! Lol.

I have a soft spot for alpine white MK2 GTI's...had a lot over the years!

The foam is roughly R10. Then a 1-2" layer of CC spray foam on top.

Now that I have a space to work, one of the few things I actually enjoy about winter is working on a project while it's cold out. So after I inherited another VW and a bunch of parts I consolidated all the parts worth keeping.

Once I moved the shell out back and rearranged the cars, it was time to relax and have a cold one!

Made some wall art from one of the dozens of parts I acquired recently with the red GTI...wish I had an extra set of low beams to mount with it. I'd like to add a 12v supply and use the lights.
