Hi all,

What size Mr Cool do you think I would need for a 26x26 garage with 9'8" ceilings? I'll have 2 windows that face north and an 18'x8' garage door that faces west. 2 sides brick and 2 sides siding. I'm in St. Louis so it gets relatively cold in the winter and very hot and humid in the summer. I don't plan to keep the garage house level temps but reasonable.

The online calculators seem to look like I should be OK with an 18K BTU unit. Does that sound right or would I be better with a 24K BTU unit?

I like 18k too. The correct size also depends on how well insulated the garage is - particularly above it. The garage door is a loss leader.

24k - I use that for 1200 sqft and 16 ft ceilings in TX, insulated R13/R15 though. I think an 18k is probably good - you can always dial it back and unless it's in use 100% of the time, you to be on the large side anyway.

I have an 18k in my 24x32 with 12 foot ceilings. It's well insulated in the walls and ceilings. The garage door is insulated, but I know that's still a huge source of loss.

I'm like you - I want to keep it above 50 in the winter and below 82 in the summer. I've had mine installed for about 14 months and I have no complaints.

I spelled out the logic I use for cooling in this thread:

I'm not sure my reasoning is sound, but I think it is.
