My new house is 100 yrs old, had a fire in 2007. it was gutted and remodeled in 2008 and we moved in this last January. Unfortunately it had no garage and the driveway was toast after all the fire trucks and construction vehicles.

So started this week on the garage, first thing was to clear 3 red cedar trees and one pecan tree to make room for the garage slab & new driveway.

The concrete contractor is supposed to start on the drive and slab this weekend, which includes the demo of the existing driveway. After they are gone I am planning on building the actual structure myself.

It looks great Gabriel. Man you really got me by posting those last pictures today...I'm sitting here reading that and look up in the left corner and it says today. So of course I immediately thought how in the #&*) did he get people to work today!?! About 2 seconds later I returned to my sane state once again.

part of this project includes the driveway to the street and also moving the exisiting sidewalk from a north-south path to a east-west path...to connect the entry with the driveway

so we found a few soft spots in the excavation of the existing drive. went to plan B which included placing a 4oz nonwoven geotextile fabric and then crushed aggregate instead of sand for the base(for the whole driveway) and finally the contractor is using a rebar mat(just in the soft location). all i am being hit on is for the cost of the rebar, which is $50.

started out being a "work on my garage" weekend....but that quickly turned into my girlfriends veggie garden project.....fencing, rototilling, planting...etc....so the good thing is that the garden is done. bad thing is i only got some wall bracing moved to the inside so i could sheath it...then 5 pieces of sheathing put on.

some new pics....

I have a similar sized back yard and have been planning to build a similar sized garage. Glad I found this thread. Keep up the good work.....will be looking forward to subsequent posts as you move along.

Nice build. I have an idea of where your house is and I really like the neighborhood. Hope your shoulder is better. Nice Chevy also.
