Hi all! Have been reading posts and research and opinions here for quite some time and it's all been very helpful, do THANK YOU!!

I live in Indy, so I have the benefit of going to Greg Smith Equipment and look at their lifts first hand. After a bunch of research and waffling back and forth, I decided on the Bendpak HD-9 vs. the 408-SL. My struggle was that I was really trying to justify the $500 extra for the Bendpak. I'm not sure I ever reconciled that part, but the wife asked a bunch of questions and the certifications and the air lock releases tilted me to the HD.

So, prep has begun! 220 in:

Next is the outlet up on the ceiling for my Liftmaster 8500:

Then garage guys will be here to switch the door to high rise. They will do it for $350 which I thought was spot on and reasonable and it's the guys who originally installed our doors and lifts from the builder.

Two questions as opinion requests. There are short poured "walls" below our drywall which is nice to prevent water damage. The first question is:

1) Should I epoxy the floor before the lift installation or wait until after? I will have the castors and I thought it might be better to wait until after the lift is built to avoid possible damage during installation.

2) Should I also epoxy these short "walls" for a consistent look? If so, how do I do the flake on a vertical surface?

Thanks again for all the great content!!

It would be best to epoxy before the lift is in. Depending on your garage configuration, you could do 1 side and have the lift on another and then roll back when it dries. I have an Atlas 409 from Greg Smith Eq. I am quite happy with it.

As far as the wall epoxy... it is all about preference. You could paint the vertical part of the concrete the same color as the wall to make it more consistent....

Hey Chris. The 409 is a bit big for my bay, but I was really impressed with the 409 and the 408. I hope I'm not falling for the marketing / branding of the Bendpak over the Atlas.... $500 almost covers the installation.

Thanks for the advice on the epoxy. I think I'll just epoxy those short walls with the plain base and that way will be a bit more durable when I have to spray out the garage. And love the idea and doing one bay at a time. Much easier to deal with all my "stuff" too.

I am in the process of ordering my HD-9. However, I really can't believe the RJ-45 rolling jack is almost half the price of the lift! I totally get (and need) the functionality though. The Atlas RJ-45 (interesting that it shares the same model number as the Bendpak) looks like it would work on the Bendpak lift. It even has adjustable brackets for the span between the platform. And at $400 less, I can live without the air function. Can anyone here confirm that the Atlas model will really work on the Bendpak lift?

from what i read i altas rj35 say yes it will work on HD9 it slides not on our run ways but on our rails going to loose some lifting height due to position jacking rails but gont see why would not work at the price point cant go wrong

here is link why it would work :
http://www.gregsmithequipment.com/4-Post-Jack-Measurement-Guide

for atlas rj45 to work on bendpak hd9 you have to know how wide roller jack rail is between the 2 lifts find out that and that will tell you.

at some point i might buy atlas rj35 for mine hd-9stx i have welder if need be

Well, the lift is in!!! Car threw some codes just a couple of days before the install. Pointed to o2 sensors, so ordered replacements and anxiously awaited the lift install vs jacking up and crawling around on the floor. With the lift... 15 minute job!!!

One question though. How frustrated should I be about this flaking paint? I understand it is heavy duty equipment and subject to wear and tear, but this came out of the packing like this... I'm trying really hard not to be SUPER frustrated...

Nice M3! I'd be pissd about that paint job and the QC that allowed to leave the plant like that. I've heard others complain about BendPak paint. Paint was okay on mine, but needed a few coats of wax.

well they do get scraped in shipping and get loaded and unloaded from truck to truck by freight company as did mine.... bendpak is good about replacing parts they offer touch up paint, scratches or minor, can be touched up it, its a big heavy piece to expect it to come perfect 100% visually is one thing, but 100% working is what counts. if you paid for shipping....??? but most shipping is free ....so

so what did you get for a jack

Shipping was included. Functionally lift is working fine, but I like to take care of my items both operationally and aesthetically. So, this is bugging me quite a bit.

I ordered the RJ-45 rolling bridge jack. I am really frustrated about that too. Shame on me for not doing more research on that, but the extension arms won't reach the jack points on both my cars. My cars are 73" wide and the bridge jack extension arms only reach to 63". I can use cross braces and other jack points, but it's not as stable and defeats the purpose of what I was trying to do. There are other brands of bridge jacks that have the proper width and are half the price. Not happy on that one.

They actually sent me a can of touch up paint with the lift. Unfortunately scrapes are just part of the deal when dealing with large, heavy pieces of equipment. I can say that the touch up worked great.

Nice lift. I would call them. When I got my scissor lift it had parts that were rusted. They replaced and sent some extras. You probably would want to take the lift apart and send back the parts but they may set you up with some other accessories or refund. They were easy to work with on my problem.

Great lift by the way. Did you install it yourself? How high are your ceilings?

Thanks! Called them. Not very happy with the service rep I spoke to, but they are reluctantly sending me touch up paint.

The rep was one of those "nice" rude people. Meaning he said nasty things in a really nice tone like that was going to be ok.

I'm actually regretting going with Bendpak at this point. I should have gone with my gut and just stayed local with Greg Smith. Would have saved $1500 on the lift and the bridge jack (which btw, won't even reach my car's jack points)

You seem way to hard to please
Bridge jacks are made to pick up on the front suspension which it should easily reach, not your rocker panel floor jack or two post lift point!

The picture of scratched paint says it all, sandals are not proper work wear

You seem hyper critical without knowing all the details. There are plenty of videos online showing bridge jacks working at the rocker panel jack points. And lots of people actually use two bridge jacks, so that would indicate using for the rear of the car not just "front suspension".

Here is someone with the exact same car model as me lifting the rear end of his car with a bridge jack using the proper factory jack points. However, it's a bridge jack from a different company:

"My bridge jack spreads fine with no problems. The car sits on the lift with about 2 inches space one each side, maybe 3 at most. I have ea Direct Lift from Ft Worth Tx....$2,200 plus 550. for the jack.

Darth sitting on the jack on the lift - rear end in the air....."

http://s479.photobucket.com/user/TxDarth/media/Jacks/IMG_0111_zps20902095.jpg.html

And those "sandals" are actually flip flops and the most comfortable footwear ever created. And I wasn't doing any work in them. I was taking photos of the damaged runway and the installers were doing the work.

Looks almost like Duplicolor Old Ford Blue. I'd test that and just shoot the scrapes. That stuff is heavy, I'd be more surprised if it came out of the boxes perfect.

That does look pretty close!

And I totally get it. A lot of weight shifting around during transportation. They are sending me some official Bendpak blue touch up paint, so I'll be able to patch it up.

Ah... That's a great suggestion. Thanks Ron!

I have a rj45 and don't have any issues with the width. Are you sure you're getting them fully extended?

Same here. I have a pair of the RJ-45 rolling bridge jacks and can easily lift my F250 crew cab all four corners with them.

You can just throw the flakes at the wall, they will stick to the wet epoxy.

I went out and measured last night. Yes, I am getting the full 59" extension width. I guess my cars are just oddly super wide...
