I have finally taken time to share some pictures of my 40x60 build, This is kinda my dream shop or will be. I worked for years out of a 80 year old 18 x 24 Garage that I had re-built by jacking it up to replace the sill plates and re-studding the walls so it would be 8 ft high.

My new shop is 40 x 60 with 12 ft. side walls. It has a 10 x 20 room split into 2 10 x 10 rooms - 1 room is the bathroom with shower, stool and utility sink.
The other room will be for fridge it will get a set of french doors so I can roll engines in for re-building.

One end now has a 10 x 40 loft and have started the compressor closet, with sound proofing. I did the spray foam insulation myself. OSB walls, have to thank my wife for doing the 2 coats of kilzs primer and white paint. Actually all the painting so far.

Some of the details- 6 inch concrete floors, one bay has buried tie downs (3 on each side) in the concrete. I opted for 85w CFL's you can see them in the pictures, there are 22 of them on 4 switches. It is like daylight with all of them on. Air lines on all 4 walls, plenty of plugins. Still trying to decide on what to use for heat.

I would like to thank everyone who shares the knowledge on this forum, I have used the wealth of information here in my own build. I will add more pictures as I can.

Incredible looking place you've got. Sounds like a well thought out garage with a ton of space. Keep the pictures coming.

How did you do the spray foam DIY. I have some applications where I want to do this but they are "small" projects and I do not want to pay "high" costs. I live in the K.C. area.

Ok I got a few more pictures,

Unfinished mud room, but the important part is functional.

Work benches, my plan is to enclose the bottom. They are each 2ft deep and 8ft long, tops are double stacked 3/4 plywood.

Start of the compressor room, my welding area is to the right of it, I got a deal on some 4 x 10 sheets of tread plate so put 3 of them on the floor for splatter protection, I will be covering the OSB walls in that area with corrugated metal.

Cabinet/Closet I built with a $50 Craigslist door and 3/4 ply wood, will be used mainly for power tools and a charging station for cordless tools.

More to come as I make progress

Looks nice. I noticed you had a couple of huge CF lights screwed in. I have been looking for some. What are they and where did you get them?

Glockman- I got them at Kriz Davis Electric in Wichita Ks. They are 85 watt, supposed to be equal to a 300 watt. They screw into a standard light socket. They run about $23 each. They come 10 in a case, I have 22 of them. I have them on 4 switches so I have zone lighting. I will try to get the details off one of the boxes tomorrow.

green.bubbly, I sprayed it about an inch and a half thick, 4 kits covered the walls up to the roof line, however I also sprayed my 10 x 20 room about 2 inches thick. I had the roof insulation installed when the building was put up.

WTR- I am between Winfield and Udall

Got a few more things done to the shop, finished boxing in the compressor room, french doors on the small room and attic stairs installed to make access to the loft easier.

Badinf. mind if I ask what you intend doing in this shop? is it a hobby shop like mine or a professional shop where you will be making your living, or something in between. what kinds of things do you intend doing in there?

mustangmccance, not for making a living out of, it will mainly be used to fabricate/weld in and mechanic type work. I have a new mud racer project in mind. I quit racing while getting my daughter through college. With that out of the way the wife said I deserved to build a new shop. My old one was an old garage I refurbished 15 years ago, it is a 18 x 24 shed that was about to fall down. It was built in the early 1900's. It will now be for lawn mower and storage (the wife has claimed space already). Problem I have now is my daughter is getting married in April and wants to have her wedding and reception in my new shop. She is a country girl, So I have until April to finish the painting, the bathroom, etc.
So it will be used for a little bit of everything you could say.

jomobco- thanks for the kudo's on the lighting, when all 22 lights are on it is like daylight, its great.

Outstanding build, very well thought out. I look forward to more installments. 60x40 is around the same size I want mine, with a very similar layout as what you've done here.

How much room do you have up in your loft? And do you plan on putting in a lift?

Thanks for compliments. The loft is 10 x 40, I built it to be used mainly for storage. Head room is good in the middle, storage was my main goal with it.
I have planned on a lift before I built, thats why I chose the scissor trusses. I am trying to decide on a 4 post that portable but in the 10,000 range, So far the heaviest I have found is a 10k from Complete Hydraulics and a Bend Pack 9K that are portable.

I'm right there with you - like to have the lift be powerful enough to hoist a pickup truck or my Avalanche. Have you looked at a Backyard Buddy? Here's one a friend of mine pointed me to the other day... http://forums.viperclub.org/general-viper-discussion/642260-backyard-buddy-4-post-lift-sale.html
