Well I picked up a Hot Dawg 45k heater fo free......less than 5 years old

Time to plan the gas line route and find the best roof vent kit

Who makes the best low temperature thermostat? 35-60°?

Seems like the issue of water getting into the shop, is solved

I redid all of the landscaping and raised up the beds around the garage, helped with drainage

I also buried and extended all the downspouts

So far, so good...........shop is all dry

The heater is up and mounted, was very interesting hanging it myself!!!

8 total lag bolts.........rock solid

I spaced it on the back area of the garage, so that it can blow down the entire length of the shop........I also moved and remounted my adjustable three speed shop fan to help circulate air

I think the heater is spec'd out to blow 20-25 feet, so there is about 40 feet down range for the warm air to blow

I mounted the heater 20" off of the back wall, 18" is suggested........I need to move the shop light fixture over a few

Time to run some power, some gas line, hookup the tstate, and install the vent kit.............time is ticking, but I am also in no rush

My local Costco and Sams club stopped selling the $25-$30 LED shop lights

They are now $35 at Sams and $49 at Costco

I decided to try out these from Menards, even though they have less lumen (3300)

I bought 9 today and need 3 more

I am VERY PLEASED with the total cost and how bright it is, SO MUCH BETTER

They were on sale for around $21.50 each!

I kept the three tube bulb fixtures over the work bench area, until they **** out

Picked up this bench grinder and shelving base, with light, on Craigslist......for $110

I am using it to replace my lame newer Dewalt with the typical 3 point base........which I just sold for $100

I really like having the flexible light, just need to get a metal shroud, so that I am not blinded when using the grinder........something that will block half the bulb and direct the light down

Well, yes and no

I sealed all the expansion joints with Sika flex self leveling caulk.......like 8 tubes worth

I believe that the ground was getting so soaked, it was coming up through the joints..........but have no proof of this

I also redid the landscaping around the entire house and buried the downspouts far out.........I have one behind the garage, that I am going to move farther out this Spring/Summer

Usually, the water getting in to the garage happens when the ground is very wet (Spring) and there is a long, heavy down pour

I guess I will wait and see over the next 3 months how my fixes worked, if at all

I decided to move all the large tools out of the main shop and put them all in the back area, which is closed off by a sliding barn type door

This rear area is roughly 12'x16' and will house my compressor, 6x48/9" combo sander, floor drill press, welder, and my bench grinder

I need to run some power and add in lights.......since there is only one outlet in this back section and the rear garage door opener needs a new outlet in the ceiling

My plan is two add two 20amp breakers to the subpanel and then add 4 20a outlets

There is already one single 4' shop light, but I will be using three 4' LED shop lights

Since there is a junction box already, I will add three ceiling outlets for the LED lights

You've made a very functional work area . Just wondering if you ever worked out your radio reception issues. I have 5 of those same led lights in my shop but have not had that problem.

Nope, still have ZERO (FM) radio reception.......need to figure it out soon

I have just been using CDs in the stereo

Getting back to the new Milwaukee grinder I bought......

Took everything off and used degreaser on the stand, which really helped

I removed the light attachment and need to install a new socket and wiring w/ plug.....it was probably 30 years old

I then took apart the grinder, removing the sides, the base, and the two wheels

With some satin black paint, a new grinder wheel, a new wire wheel, a new switch, and a new 9' 16/3 power cord.........I was back in business

Reinstalled everything and its running GREAT

I will get the new bulb socket and wiring maybe today.........other than that, its good to go. Great addition

John, did you hardwire them or did you plug them into outlets (which I did)

Splurged for an LED bulb that was $3 on clearance

The socket was like $3 and the replacement cord was $6

I spent $4 on the metal cage with shield, so that I am not blinded when using the grinder and the bulb is also somewhat protected

Is the grinder attAched to the floor or is it heavy enough by itself?

The grinder is not attached to the floor..........its pretty solid enough by itself

If it moves around I will put a 12"x12" section of steel plate I have on the bottom shelf

I sold the smaller Dake for $100 and bought this MONSTER today

Can anyone tell me more about it.........rating, value, etc?

The base is 3" thick, the square press is 1-1/2", over 26" tall, nearly 9" wide and around 20" deep

I can only find "201" being the marking on the bottom

The teeth are in great shape and the lever handle moves freely and very smooth

Oh yeah, VERY VERY HEAVY!!

I need to clean it up and use it

I upgraded heaters in my shop...........I feel like the 45k worked well, but took way too long to heat up the space

I sold it for $450 and bought a Hot Dawg 75K for $575...........it is up and mounted, here is a link to the install project for both size heaters:

I am going to look around and see what I can do, to add a real door to the side of the garage, rather than the thin cheapo aluminum storm door

For thermal reasons and security reasons, I would like to figure out if I can add a legitimate door, to help retain heat in the winter and to add a higher level of security

Here is the current door:

I believe the current door is a 36x82........I am thinking that a bottom threshold will greatly help with sealing up the garage

I cleaned the disk mounting surface good with acetone and used some 3M craft spray to mount the disk. Hopefully it stays in place

Here it is all cleaned up and mounted.

The belt eats through metal fast and easy

I think I finally solved my water seepage issues............holding my breath and knocking on wood.

I leveled the grade under the outside deck and also under the enclosed patio.........the grade was about 6" lower at the garage side and I think drainage was a huge issue

It has been raining good for the past week or two and so far, IT IS DRY

It is up and running.....a tad louder than the old 45k, probably due to the larger blower fan, but nothing bad at all

I have two "sunken" dual gang boxes on one wall that was annoying me

One gang box is a dual switch and the other is a switch/outlet

I used spray foam and also sealed up the boxes, since I could feel a cold draft

I used a 3/4" mud ring and also installed two new grey switches, and a new wall plate

I need to get a new outlet, switch, and wall plate for the other one

Well with summer winding down in the next month or so...…..I wanted to get started on getting a new door, which leads from the garage into the 3 seasons patio room

I currently have a screen door from my garage addition, going into an enclosed patio

For thermal reasons, I want to add a exterior steel door, to help retain heat in the winter

I currently have no threshold and the thin thin thin screen door loses a lot of heat, I am sure

Here is the current door:

According to Menards, a 36x80 door requires the following rough in opening:

38-1/4" W x 82" H and Brick Opening: 40" W x 82-3/4" H

Door and door frame are off...…..took like 10 minutes, haha

I also removed three pieces of white painted 1" thick trim boards, that the door and frame were anchored to

I think I am also going to remove the top and side red painted 1"x4" boards, on the inside of the open/exposed frame...this will give me almost 2" wider rough in area (11/16" per board)

I can see a 2x4 back on the right, which is pressure treated

My main concern now is the depth on top the concrete footer to the back of the patio step...……….only 3-1/2". Will this be ok for a prehung door with an aluminum threshold?

Meaning add enough 2 by material to be the same thickness as the prehung door frame?
