Stumbled upon this site and thought I would share my creation. This is my 30'x90' amish built pole barn/house located on our farm in central Ohio. The house portion was stick-built on a concrete foundation and the barn portion is your typical pole construction. The footprint of the house encompasses slightly more than a third of the overall structure. The barn is 20' tall on the outside and has scissor trusses on 2' centers. I put a loft in the end of barn and it measures 16'x30'. There are two large sliding doors opposite one another to allow air to flow completely through the barn. I did this so I would be able to swing out one door, through the barn, then out the other door.

Here are a few pics during and after construction. I will have to take more pictures this weekend since we have a concrete apron on all sides of the barn now.

In case your are wondering, the house is two-stories with a walk-out finished basement.

Nice looking place, I'll also ask for more pics. Unfortunately we don't have many Amish around here, if everything I've read is true, I'd hire them for EVERYthing I wanted built...

Very cool but I imagine it was not cheap to have this built correct?

The Amish charged us $80K to get it under roof (rough framing inside, concrete in barn area, deck). I took it from there and installed all the electrical, plumbing, and tech wiring. I subcontracted the insulation, drywall, and HVAC (geothermal) and finished the rest myself.

I think we had somewhere in the neighborhood of $160K in it when we moved in, but I have since added alot of reinforced concrete around the barn.

I wanted to get pics over the weekend, but it was raining/gray. It is supposed to clear up by Wednesday, so I will take pictures then.

I think with the way the economy is going, that you will see more and more of this type of home in the future. for the square footage that you get, it is actually cheaper. It doesn't have the aesthetic appeal to a lot of people that say an 8000 sq.ft. brick and stone house would have, but for the money you can easily have a 4800 sq. ft. home and still have major room for the barn side. Figure an 80 x 100 footprint is 8000 sq. ft. and if you take 30x80 footprint of that for house, then make it two floors, you have a hell of a huge home and still have a 50x80 garage. I'd do it in a heartbeat, but my wife has different ideas about living in a barn.:wtf: But it does allow kids to legally leave the doors open all the time...."Hey ..shut the door, you think you were born in a barn?" :lol_hitti J/K. I'd also like to see some more pics of the build.
