I hear you! :D

Mine is also 12/12 and I was tied off to the Bobcat on the other side of the building! I've done some rock climbing and rappelling, but wasn't taking any chances. It is different when you are climbing and paying attention to climbing and when you're on a roof trying to pay attention to shingles and nails and all...

Greg,
Great looking building, I look forware to seeing more as you progress with your construction.

I know oh so well about rain, it's caused many delays for our building. We have had some, what we call a normal weather pattern, so things are moving along.

I probably missed it, but what is the end result for your garage? Hot Rod storage, building cars, or maybe just a place to hang out and have fun???

Thanks,

Thanks, Don! The funny thing about the rain was that during the framing stage, the weather was perfect. Very few really hot days and no rainouts to speak of. So as soon as we want to close up the roof, it starts raining and I have a two week delay in getting my roofing sub onsite because I'm third in line. Then when he gets started, we can't get a full day of work in the first five days due to rain. He probably would have completed the job in four full days of work. He had pre-scheduled a vacation with his kids for last week, so that meant another delay in the middle of the job.

But you know, that's just the way it goes and I'm OK with it. It's all gonna be just fine.

The garage will eventually be the home for two Corvettes (a '64 fastback and an '01 targa coupe) that my wife and I own. It's my "retirement" garage. It'll get a 2 post lift, a compressor, and good workbench area so I more easily work on the cars.

We're moving to TN from the Dayton OH area to live near our daughter, son-in-law, and 2 year old grandson. We purchased the five acre parcel that we're building on almost two years ago. I'll be the GC for the home we'll build after the garage is done. All of this has been in the planning stage for about three years. I retired from NCR Corporation last December. My wife continues to work in Dayton (keeping the two of us with medical insurance) and will come down to TN for good when I get close to completing the house.

That's our story and I'm sticking to it.

Best of luck with your build! Hope you're having as much fun as I am.

Greg

Yes, Bevis. They are real "doghouse" dormers, not fakes like are put on some houses. Here's are pictures of the upstairs space that will be my "home away from home" for awhile.

We're closed in as of today. The local wallboard supplier flew my order for the upstairs material through the gable opening and then we installed the gable windows. Siding is about two weeks away due to being second in line on my sub's schedule. The electrical panel and some temporary circuits will be installed next week.

Siding Day 1 - FINALLY!!!!

Coming down the exterior homestretch....siding!!!! Had to patiently wait a week and a half for my sub to finish previously scheduled jobs. He got almost half of the job done today and I'm really please with my choices. The siding is Vytec's Terra Clay and the metal wrap on the trim is Sierra Brown. The dormers will get the same cedar shake as the front. Plain plank siding for the remainder of the building.

I've been installing recessed lighting and switch/outlet boxes upstairs. The 200 amp panel is in and I've got a hot outlet. Since I'll be limited on the amount of juice until the house is built, we'll just get a few essentials up initially (ceiling fan, hot water, a couple lights, and outlets). We'll wire everything, however, so I can start insulation and get the drywall done. More pics of that work to follow.

Nice place. I miss the area up there- graduated from Cookeville High and my folks still live in your neck of the woods, right on the Putnam Co. side of the county line.

Good luck on your build- I really like the way you're finishing the outside so far.

Thanks, Syborg. It's turning out better than I had hoped and it's been a lot of fun, too.

Good to hear from you, wrigh003. This area is going to be a great place to live out my "retirement" years. We're out in the country with a decent piece of land and can get to Nashville, Knoxville, or Chattanooga in an hour and a half. Best of all, I can get to my grandson in fifteen minutes instead of five and a half hours (from OH). BTW, the season opener (Sparta vs. Cookeville) is Friday night at Cookeville.

Thanks, C_F. I'm glad you like my ramblings. I gained a lot from this site long before I began my build. I hope that someone else will take a shot at building their dream garage as a result of seeing mine.

Thanks, Steve. Yes, I'll have a 2-post lift in the single car door bay. I'll add a compressor and hope to find a used welder, too. I've wanted to learn some basic welding techniques for a long time. I think building a small utility trailer would be a great project.
