I'm also hoping the 1000 gal tank will be sufficient for us. We pre-buy during the summer months and can lock in whatever amount I choose. I bought 2000 gallons for this season [emoji26]

Chad, this is an incredible build - thanks so much for sharing. I'm eager to see how it's all set up, interior-wise, for projects.

Keep rocking, brother - and stay warm. :)

new here and looking over different garages for ideas. Yours looks super and kind of what I looking a building to house a couple heavy wreckers. One question I had on your build is with the water line going to the RV through the floor with in floor heating do you end up with warm water at the RV?

The water line is below the insulation, so no it isn't warm. I don't expect to be using he motor home during the winter months, however I can if I need to. Thanks for the compliments and don't hesitate to ask more questions.

First let me say this has been one of the best thought out barns I have ever seen. I have spent a couple years planning one and this has changed everything. I was doing a 40x104. Now I want this size I think it has more room to move things around in. So if you could give me some pointers on your build or some things you might do differently I would appreciate any imput. And again wonderful build

Tim.bergfeld. Thank you for the compliments. I tried to really think what out and plan what would work best for my situation. The only two minor things I would have done different is the location for my water, sewer dump and RV electric hook-ups should have been closer towards the front wall by about 15-20'. I planned for having the trailer door down but not for 6-8' of space behind when the door is down. We bought a different Motorhome which is 4' longer which adds to the issue. Not a huge issue but something I would change. I would also give it some thought to have a water hose between the overhead doors (in area of bball hoop). Having this location would help with using hose to wash trucks a little better. I also would have ran the coax from Sat dish so the Motorhome could be plugged into Satellite while inside. Here are a couple pictures showing today's parking arrangement to give room for our daughter to play basketball. We aren't using Motorhome or the trailer during the winter so this works fine.

Chad,

Really enjoyed your build - awesome job! I'm planning a similar build and learned a lot reading through the entire post. Will be stealing shamelessly from many of your ideas. Was wondering if you wouldn't mind answering a few questions:

1. Had you considered any other interior sheeting besides the metal. Although it is a nice clean look, I'm a bit concerned with it getting all banged up over time as accidents do tend to happen in a shop. What would have been your second choice for sheeting

2. Regarding your floor finish .... Did you use any type of sealer right after the floor was poured or did you leave it raw until you did the epoxy paint? Also, have you been happy with the floor paint so far? Anything you would have done differently there?

Thanks again for spending the time to,share your blessings with all of us!

Thank You Kubota Tee

I really only considered the steel for the interior. I have friends that have it in their barns and like it. Do not seal the concrete if you are going to use Epoxy. Before the epoxy the concrete needs etched, either mechanically or chemically with acid. I used a floor grinder for prepping mine. I really like the epoxy, looks like new when I clean it up. I have chipped it a couple places by dropping a sharp heavy tool or something but the cleanliness of it far out ways a few chips.
Good luck with your build and if I can help don't hesitate to ask.

I'll second the thought of not sealing. They did seal mine because I hadn't considered epoxy. Prior to moving anything in I decided to put down epoxy. I rented a diamond grinder and it took forever. The sealer plugs up the diamonds. Every few minutes we'd have to tip it up and chip the sealer off. It would cake up like melted plastic.

I know Chad's happy with his metal but I didn't install metal for two reasons in my shop.
1. I've been in several shops with metal interior and it always looks bad after time. It gets dented and scratched, which sticks out like a sore thumb.
2. It does not provide a smooth surface. The corrugation is kind of a pain for certain things.

Just a couple things to think about.

I went with 1/2" plywood for my interior. It's a lot more expensive than metal but more resilient also. My father went with a sheet of OSB at the bottom and then put metal around the top. With 14' eaves he has about 5'+ tall metal up there. He's happy with it but I don't like OSB.

Good points Jared. Some people go with plywood around the bottom and steel at the top. Makes it easier with the smooth surface. Just wasn't sure I like the look of steel and plywood.

Trucks are washed inside, that's the main reason for the building. I don't notice any odor. Never had anyone say when they come in.

Tyvek and the Paper backing on the insulation the only vapor barriers. It's my understanding and what the insulation Company told me with the paper backed insulation you wouldn't want to add another vapor barrier such as plastic. It could cause a problem between the plastic and the paper.
