Hello everyone. I've been stalking and getting ideas from this forum for months now. I was able to start my dream garage in August of last year. Figured I would show my progress so far. Thanks for all the ideas. This pics are from the ground work. I needed over 40 triaxle loads of fill and stone brought in to bring it up to grade, back corner was over 6 1/2' low. These guys were in and out in 2 days and were pretty impressive on the machines. Only had 1 truck about tip over. Luckily a tree caught him. Pretty good considering they had to back up my driveway which is over 1300' with turns, trees and a steep hill.

Thank you. It's going to be 30 x 40 pole barn style. I'm pretty much done with it other than some wants not needs. I will continue to post pics of the progress.

Here is some pics of the build. Every pic is a different day. My contractor moved right along. Basically every day I came home, I took a pic. We had a great run of warm, dry days so they got it done in less than 2 weeks.

I was getting a screaming deal on some mineral wool insulation scraps from a local company. I was able to do all the walls 4" thick for cheap.

I had a bunch of left over metal roofing panels laying around. so after seeing a couple of guys on this forum that had used it I decided to throw it up. Reflects light very well. As you can see I went with standard light bases with led light bulbs. Not a big fan of fluorescent bulbs.

I am very happy with the layout....once again reading threw the forum and seeing what layout worked for different people I decided on this one. Figured it gives me a bay for my Deere 870 and my rhino/atvs, a bay for my truck and still gives me a 10 x 30 work area/man cave area.

How do you like the mineral wool insulation? It supposedly out performs fiberglass batts in several ways.
What was the install like? If I build a new structure I want to use it for insulation.

The chart I looked at shows mineral wool is about the same as fiberglass. It is excellent for noise deadening and better fire resistance.

Looks good! Any idea how the light reflection on your ceiling is compared to white painted drywall?

I was interested in how it handles moisture if it gets wet or damp.
There are also smart membranes to use instead of a vapor barrier.
That would work well in climates with heating in the winter but A/C in the summer.

On the mineral wool insulation, it is made from spun lava. So I think moisture is a non-issue. It was a breeze to install. The scrap ends were 24 x 24 so I just had to trim a little off. The guys I was buying it from told me to use a butter knife.(btw they use this to wrap locomotive everything for fire and sound deadning) I liked it a lot, no itch or smell of fiberglass. And it is crazy how much sound it absorbs.

Not sure how the lighting compares to drywall. All I can say is that it seems to reflect very well. I have a total of 18-60 watt equivelent light bulbs 10' high and my buddies that have similar size garages are in aww when they stop over. Two of them are already redoing there lighting to match mine.

Here is some pics of the inside walls. I originally wanted to do all reclaimed wood but it takes forever to accumulate, dismantle, pull nails so I am just doing the south and west walls for now. I drywalled the other two walls. When I dug the trench for electric I also ran water and a natural gas line for eventual hookup.

Picked up these beauties off craigslist for $100. Solid metal cabinets from the 50's. I think I will eventually paint but for now they look good.
