He never said any such thing. He advised the young guys not to feel like they had to go way into debt to buy tools when they were starting out. He advised them to get familiar with some of the cheaper brands to find out what worked and what didn't.
Snap on, I find it amusing that you refer to the 'snobby north' yet you're the tool snob. You've been on this board three months and you still can't post without being combative.
Maybe you need to find another tool forum.
Ban me, seems pretty simple to me. Autowhatever has bashed all the big tool companies, he does not like them fine, I will continue to buy mostly Snap On, but I will also buy from Cornwell, MAC and Matco.
I say you are just wasting your money buying cheap tools. You say your cheap tools are just as good as the big four. The success of Snap On, MAC, Matco and Cornwell with their sell by truck only methods shows that quality sells. Craftsman nor Harbor Freight would ever survive if they had to sell that way because their quality is far to lacking.
There have been posts in this forum about how a good number of craftsman wrenches and sockets do not fit fasteners very well. Countless posts about the lack of quality of the Harbor Freight tools, just a couple of days ago someone bought then returned without even using a 3/4 inch socket set, all he did was open the box and he saw how terrible the quality was.
Why would you steer young techs to such horrible tool choices. The big four survive because they provide service and quality products that Harbor Freight, Sears and other stores can't touch.
I will admit that if a young tech fills his box with Horrible Freight or Caveman Tools that when they do break them they can at least go to their local stores and get a replacement low quality tool if it is in stock.
If they go the mail order TopTul route and they break a needed tool they may be out of luck for two or three weeks if things go quickly, if not they could be out of an important tool for a month or more.
I highly doubt Autowhatever has a month back log of work. I don't know that many people in this economy that would one be able to do without their vehicle for a month and two even in a good economy 99% of the people will go find a reputable shop that can do the work in a timely manner.
