My First Cornwell purchase

Just picked up a much needed tool today, and I went for the good stuff. Cornwell!

Metric Hex socket set.

I love the fit and finish, and the warrenty. I use these a lot in high torque situations, and I need something reliable.
I've gone through gearwrench and cman sets, and even though the warrenty covers it all when they break, I decided to shell out the cash for a more reliable set.

That's a good looking set. What I like about them is that they aren't too long. I don't think there's a huge need for the bit having extra length on the larger sizes.

I'd have 10 times the Cornwell but the local dealer is a bag of **** so my money goes to Snap On and Matco...

I got passed by a Cornwell truck on the way home yesterday. Caught me off guard. I hear they will finance anyone. Good tools in my experience.

Those bits are damn good. I have several sets, plus the big master set. Never had one break. They fit the bolts very well so there is little problem with stripping.

I have that set, it's a good one. I just picked up this set of extended torx from my tool guy.

Agreed, good bits and good price. I've broken a few, but I was really, really on them when they broke.

The set was $67 after tax.

Hmm. I'm actually surprised to see these compared to Gearwrench. I worked at Advance Auto for a while, and we sold lots of those hex bit sets, and all of them came back with the 8mm and the 10mm broken.
Also, I've used both the Gearwrench and the Cornwell sets, and I think the Cornwell set is much much better.


Quick question for everyone; I thought Cornwell was one of the companies that made their own tools. Forgive me if I'm wrong, I'm just trying to educate myself.

The Cornwell dealer that I go through is out of Hermitage, and he's in Grove City every friday in the old trader horn parking lot around lunch time. He's a good guy and very nice to deal with.

OK, see, this is what some people are saying... Other people are saying the Cornwell makes their own stuff.

Also, one of the major attractions of cornwell is that I can have it warrantied whenever I need, and since I'm a professional mechanic I need stuff replaced ASAP when it breaks.

Cornwell does make some of their own tools. Some sockets, some wrenches, some ratchets, etc…

That particular set you bought is not made by Cornwell. Unless something has changed recently, those are made by VIM and rebranded through Cornwell.

If you see a Cornwell dealer every week, like your dealer and like the tool, then by all means go through your dealer.

Just FYI, when it comes to bit sockets, hex, torx, etc… Snap-on is considered king. They actually make their own bit sockets and have proven to most people to be the best. 100% of the people will never agree on anything, but the majority (on this forum) does on that fact. Especially if you work daily with your tools.

I needed a set of deep metric 1/4" sockets. Found a Cornwell impact set at a pawnshop. They are really nice.

Should've got one piece man. Not that these won't hold up but...one piece is better than two when it comes to structure. I don't think these are one piece but can't tell from the picture.

I've got the 2012 VIM catalog and I'm not seeing it.

First I have heard of that, go get the lisle Torx socket set those are 1 piece and are about the worst ever would rather have 2 piece from Walmart or HF. Itw a compromise to make it 1 piece on a bit socket.
