Thanks for the suggestion. It's something I thought hard about. I'm only planning to have a single metal table in the shop but do plan on putting one or two in about 48 inches high. Hopefully I will not regret it later :)

+2 on having some higher outlets...I am putting all mine 48" high off the floor. I'm getting old so that stops the bending down....LOL... Freaking Arthritis..Other than that looking good... Question... Why did you decide on pot/ can lights? just curious...I am not decided on what I will do yet...I like that look though... Clean finish...

I had the same thought as davetulk, I'd move want at least half of those plugs up at the 4 foot height or so.

That's what everyone keeps saying. But I can not stand the look of receptacles at anything much over 16'' . In my opinion it's normal height. I can't think of any good reason to put them at 48 or anywhere close to that.

Can light's?

Well.... It was a hard debate.

I wanted recessed lighting. I was pretty set on that. I did not want broken bulbs. I did not want bulb guards. I did not want lights hanging off of the ceiling to collect dust or look like ****. I wanted the option to use LED, CFL or Incandescent.

Can lights it was. :shocking:

I love them. I have total flexibility on what bulbs I can run. And for 8.00 plus an 8.00 led Bulb I have a 16.00 fixture that I can pretty much forget about for the rest of my life.

BTW,

I have three rows of can lights down an essentially square building layout. I have each row switched individually. That way I can select the light that I need the most without them all being on ALL of the time.

I don't really like dimmers.

Wow, you built that fast! Keep us posted on your progress. I too would be interested in an engine bay shot of the Mustang, looks like a serious bit of gear.

Regarding the mustang, there is no engine currently installed.

BUT...

the new one that I have been waiting 6 months for is due to arrive from the engine builder in 30 days or less.looks like it will be just in time for the new garage. :)

I promise to take plenty of shots regarding the install while utilizing the new shop. I can't wait.

I want to know what results you get with those pot or can lights....what kind of bulbs are you using....Now I am curious, I was ready to buy 8' 4x4' bulbs T8 fluorescent fixtures....I like the versatility of the recessed lamps, and not to mention the looks.

I just finished a house with a bunch of recessed lights....Like them a lot...

I used the normal can and went with a sealed bulb/trim unit like

http://www.costco.com/Feit-5”-6”-LE...-50,000-Hours-|-4-Pack.product.100116152.html

19/unit but when I costed the Bulb and the Trim for the can was pretty even. Also with these sealed units they are wet location rated, don't have to worry about moisture getting up there plus heat/AC loss into the attic. Worked great for me.

Only thing I would think about is the color...the ones above are 2700K good for house soft white light. In a shop I like more White light, up in the 5000k range, they are available but doubt they would be 19/per. These guys seem to have good price but don't know anything else about them http://www.ledlightsworld.com/hkmrd...sed-led-retrofit-downlight-kit-p-1000581.html

Hey, great project, I have always wanted to add something like this to my yard. With 26' of storage upstairs (not sure if I missed this but...) what is the plan for access...stairs, attic hatch, loft door to the outside? You were absolutely right, your choice to go with the trusses for loft storage was the only way to go (why waste that space?). With the 26' length up there access from the yard would be huge.

Can't wait to see the completed project.

Nice project. Agree on spending a little money on the LED's for the cans now, and you will not have to mess with them for a long time. I have seen the 2 packs at the home depot lately for under $20. Small investment up front..

Well it would have been nice to have some sort of loft up there, it's 8 feet wide but only 5 feet high. So I decided to just do a regular pulldown door for it.

Got some additonal updates. Passed the final inspection. Inspector had no issues with my electrical work. Which is great since it's my first time. :)

These are some shots of the panel getting wired up.

This is the room that was built recently. It's going to have all of my cabinets inside of it as well as stuff like floor dry, parts washer, blast cabinet ect ect.

My garage will pretty much have nothing in it except a big 3x7 sheet of steel on a custom table. This table will have a vise and will serve as my work bench and welding table.

Insulation? Check. Got most of it done today. Will finish it up tomorrow. Going to do blow in cellulose in the attic after sheet rock.

Sheet rock will be comming Monday. Got some AC lines that need to be run in the wall along with a couple of other things that need to be done before then. Next two days will be spent tying things up.
