I am going to HD and look at plywood. The cabinets look very nice

Thanks. They are pretty simple to make. These are the dimensions if you want to be able to use the IKEA doors.

Larger cabinets:
-top/bottom & sides 23.75" x whatever depth you want (I have some at 12" and the others at 8")
-inside braces 22.25" x 3"

Smaller cabinets:
-top/bottom 23.75" x depth
-sides 13.5" x depth
-inside braces 22.25" x 3"

Not much of a garage update, but I got to spend some time in my garage today working on the Audi and searching for a coolant leak. The clamp on the lower radiator hose failed. Got to love this design pulling the whole front of the car off.

Great garage thread and great car!
I have a 1 car garage as well and am going to start organizing things this summer. You gave me a lot of good ideas.
Keep it up!

Glad you like it. I'm far from finished, but these things take time.

How long did it take you to figure out you have to remove everything to get at the lower hose?

I've had it all apart before while I was doing the engine swap, so I knew how to get where I needed to. It's just a pain. I've done it enough times that I can probably have the car in "service position" in about 10 minutes.

After working on cars that didnt have a moveable front carrier I've come to appreciate the design of the "service position."

Btw just read your 4.2 swap thread, good work!

It's a love-hate relationship with the "service position". One could argue that they made it that way because it has to be worked on so often. When there is work to be done, it sure does make access easier.

Glad you like the V8 swap. It sure has made it a totally different car. I just need to get the ECU to read vehicle speed and I'll be "finished" with the swap. The last 1% seems to take the longest to get figured out.

Not much of an update, but I did pick up the Craftsman 3 pry bar set from the "Hot Deals" thread for $19.99. The pegboard is getting a little more full now.

Thanks for documenting your Kreg/Ikea cabinets. I saw this thread when I was designing my new garage and am building these cabinets now. I like that they can be made in three different heights and any depth, and that I can make them incrementally as I figure out my storage needs. I just hope Ikea doesn't discontinue their doors before I'm finished with my buildout.

Thanks guys. I should update this thread more often. Lately I've been spending most of my time working in the garage rather than on it. I'll take some updated pictures in the next couple of days.

Bringing this back from the dead. I've been enjoying working in my garage rather than on my garage. I had the week off from work and decided to paint the place. Here's how it turned out.

Thanks guys. I was really hating myself when I decided to do the strip, but am happy with the results. I still need to paint the ceiling above the loft area. Painting in there was like one of those puzzles where you can only move one piece at a time. Not being able to take everything out of the garage really slows things down.

Finally got to do something that I have meant to do since we moved in more than a year ago. I replaced the worn out extension springs with a single torsion spring. I got a couple of bids when we first moved in and the prices seemed outrageous. Eventually I stumbled across a kit sold by Menards to convert to a torsion setup from extension springs.

Went from this:

To this:

Another reason I've wanted to do this is that the end of the track made it impossible to install a door on one of my upper cabinets.

Now that the extension springs were out of the way, the support could be moved and extra track cut off.

Still a close fit with the door track. About 1/8" to spare.

Also decided to shorten up the other side to make it match. Had to resist painting the supports while I had them off. Still need to repair the ceiling where the supports were mounted.

Somehow I'm just stumbling on your thread. Garage looks great! Curious, how do you like the Ikea cabinet doors? I've always been told Ikea furniture was junk, so I didn't consider buying doors from them. I'm in the process of building larger cabinets and the doors are my biggest question, as it takes a lot of time to build nice cabinet doors. This could be a great alternative.
