Was walking around Sears today and bought my first made in China Craftsman tool .. the Craftsman DogBone .. don't know why I bought it other than I don't own a dogbone; the quality is lower than the Danaher made tools ..

Maybe it's just me, but I don't care for the design of this tool. It seems the stability of holding it on a fastener would be compromised by the articulated head.

That being said, I hope it works good for you.

Return it and tell them that you didn't realize Craftsman were now made in China, then ask them if they know any stores in the area that sell USA made tools because you want to give them lots of your money. Also tell them you will no longer be shopping with them.

I don't why anyone would buy that goofy Dogbone wrench regardless of where it's made. I just don't see it as a desirable tool but, that's just me.

All of you diehard Craftsman only made in the USA tool users better start now to pick up as much of the old used Craftsman you can find. Down the road Craftsman might become rebadged Gearwrench tools.:bounce:

I'm hoping to pick up a large set or two around the holiday sales purely to hoard.

I went to Sears Monday to return some broken sockets. I looked at the dogbones. Just did not see the need for having one. Especialy made in China. Never thought I would see the day they would put the Craftsman name on Chinese ****.
I thought the main idea behind the dogbone was for oil change techs, one or two wrenches do all things.
I looked at the black spline type wrenches. Interesting for the price, but not from China. Better to spend more and buy American.

That's the best answer. Money talks

Most (all?) of our current Cmans are China. A couple years ago there were 2 of the large US made socket sets at a Sears in Halifax. I think they were like $80 each. I didnt have the cash at the time, but i sure wish i bought them now.

While im, all in favour of letting your displeasure be known, i doubt that the girl at the cash will care enough to pass it along. THe best thing to do is write in. Maybe someone will see it and care enough to mention it to the powers that be, although i never receive any acknowledgment when i do the same. Maybe its my tone?:lol_hitti

Telling the employees in the store won't do a thing because they don't make the decisions on these kinds of things. If you guys don't like China made Craftsman products you should post here: http://www.mysears.com/

The dogbone wrench reminds me of some of the other Sears "gimmick" tools which I bought and never used or they did not work as stated in the advertisements.I won't buy any more of them unless other board members give them approval after they use them.

I look at this 'tool' as a gimmick. Something like this should see duty, maybe in the junkyard tool box or in the glove box four use in a pinch

I have vowed not to buy Craftsmen in Canada. When ever I need a tool purchase from Craftsmen, i'll spend the time to drive across the boarder into the States and buy from Sears there.

When I was first buying tools from work, I went to Sears in Canada to take a look, and I walked out the store with nothing. Everything had no manufacture country stamped on the tools. Back in the hay day, my dad's Craftsmen where all made in the USA, and he bought them in Canada. I unfortunately have to make the drive down.

Offshore Craftsmen tools are garbage. Heck, sometimes I should just **** it up and buy from the Snap-on truck that comes to work. Saves me time if the tool does break, and I end up saving time and money for the drive.

I'm generally happy with my Craftsman tools, but I tend to stay away from anything they trot out for the holiday sales promotions. Those are usually too gimmicky and/or made in China.

Might try 'em out if and when they are deep discounted after the holidays...

Black & Decker has a version called the "Ready Wrench" with a soft handle, Wal Mart will probably carry them and they'll be $3 or $4 on clearance after the holidays.

I was at Wal Mart a couple days ago and they had an end cap display of these. I think they were $29.00.

The battery operated adjustable wrenches were about the same price last Christmas, picked one up there after for $4, don't know why, novelty item.

I saw one of those yesterday. I really could not see the use for the dogbone wrench and it just felt cheap. It reminded me of those cheezy Brookstone hammer + plier + multi tools that are given out as stocking stuffers. I love my Craftsman stuff (for what I use them for) , but I'll stop buying the stuff sure as anything if this is where they are headed.

Yeah, I fell off the wagon about a month ago, sprung for the Chinese Craftsman spline drive combos. Still feel dirty.

Snap On begin to make their tools in China, so why not Craftsman. Can't avoid the inevitable. I bought the 7 piece metric spline wrench set for $10 (made in China). Quality is pretty darn good for the price.

Have any body notice the package say 6 piece but it actually come with 7 piece. Even Sears catalogue say 6 piece.

I like to keep chinese and indian tools around in case I need to "improvise", i.e. bend, flatten, grind, sharpen, round off etc. It regularly broadens my capacity to complete a job on time without waiting 'till the next morning to run to Sears. I get some of my best job satisfaction out of creating a tool while simultaneously beating on a chinese tool. Just think of them as interesting shaped bar stock.

I'm not sure where the dog bone would come in handy, but I'm gonna keep it in mind.
