I still want to finish the walls, the floor and add lights. Then eventually move this all to the basement but this is the "brewery" so far. Does anyone else have a brewery in their garage?

Love it! Nice Blichmann equipment. Home made controller?

I have too many other things on the list before I get to a decent home brew setup. Right now its buckets and carboys.. Mostly happens in kitchen and understairs.
Being in San Diego makes it hard to focus on homebrewing as well, tons of places to buy good beer from... :D
Feel free to send a bottle of your IPA this way!

Friends of mine brewed beer in ther dorm room in college. Now they do it for a living. Big Sky Brewery in Montana. Largest in the state I think. Good Luck!

I am slowly converting from gas to electric. Welding bung fittings in my keggles for my chiller, elements, thermometer and sight glass this weekend.

Nice set up you have going there. I have wanted to build a stand for a few years now, but I still use my toolbox, workbench and floor as a three tier system. It helps to save space in my situation. I have some mead going right now for my sister (using honey from her and my Bro-in-laws hives), a batch of wine to start for my wife, then it's time to start filling carboys and kegs.. I enjoy brewing during the winter months. Good luck with your system.

very cool.
what kind of beer? lager, pilsner, ale.....

Umm. . . a pilsner IS a lager. . .

In other news. . .

Sweet set up! Did you buy the whole panel kit from Kal or just build it from his site?

I LOVE electric brewing. Currently building an eBIAB set-up for my garage. Not going pro anytime soon. . .

Looks good! I am starting my garage/brewery soon. I'm sticking with propane for now...
However, I did build a 3bbl electric system with a friend in his garage.

Nice. Here's my sculpture. Home made of course. Propane burners for the water tank and bk, electric for the brew lights and two pumps mounted below the system. Mash tun is fully insulated and tilts out for easy grain clean out post mash.

This pic is when it was in my moms garage before we bought our house

I built it using plans from theelectricbrewery.com with a few minor changes. I would love to build a larger system now but I think I would need some sort of barn or out building to work in.

Not really sure at this point since it's very dependent on what beer I brew. I've read that power wise it should only cost me $2-3 a brew instead of filling a propane tank every 2 brew days.

Same here, buckets and carboys. Generally have 350-400 beers finished at all times. I do most of my brewing in the cold months so I am not pumping heat in a air conditioned house.

Very nice.

Nice brewery. Love the Blingman. I'm moving toward electric from my Brutus type setup. I'm planning on the 20 gallon Tall Boy Mega Kettles.

How are you burning that much pane on a brew day? I do ten gallon batches per run. One pane tank runs both burners. A tank usually lasts me a good 6 batches at least. Then again I suppose if you were using a burner to maintain your mash temp you would burn thru more that way.

Living in San Diego we also have access to a great supply house in the from of Homebrew Mart. We also have the benefit of having White Labs located here. Best fresh liquid yeast out there. I've bought vials from HBM that were cultured the day before I bought them. Can't beat that.

It is now legal here in Texas to make hard liquor (shine). Well I kind of thought about it, but now that I am reading this link, it’s time to start doing more research.

I plan to start a home brewery in the next year. I need to d a lot more research before I make any decisions on what to buy.

Is it possible to brew in an unconditioned space? The only space that I have to potentially brew is in my shed. It has electric, but is not heated or cooled.

You need to have a fairly consistent temp for fermenting. If you plan to lager anything you need a cold temp. Homebrewtalk.com is an amazing resource.

Guys brew in apartments all the time.

I am looking at doing something similar with keggles and electric heating elements, I am thinking about using a touch screen and a plc instead of PID controllers, also I will use two pumps to move hot liquor as well as wort.

Couple pics of my setup. I added a room to my garage for the brewery equipment I had stashed all over the basement when I retired. Behind the MLT and under the HLT on the shelf is a filter setup for RO water and all the gas, water, electrical connections to the cart with the MLT and cfc below it, to the left of the cart is the controller. The other pic shows the fermenting fridge with a starter for the next beer, Denny Conn's Vanilla Bourbon Porter, and my fermenters and BK setting on the burner in the corner.

Wow, just read the requiremnts to get a Brewers License for Liquor here in Texas and besides a bunch of government BS, it is $3,200 every two years. Beer and wine are no cost. Now I see why my old family from Tennesse were all Moonshiners.

When will beer be available in a box?

I'm going to have a post here as soon as my garage get's finished. i used to brew with a bunch of friends - we cut the top out of a keg to use as our wort bucket - was good to see all the other kegs posted here.

We used Northern Brewer and local sources. We got to the point of doing full grain extracts and used my old down jacket to insulate the buckets while they did their thing.....

Nice setup. I don't have enough room in my garage for something like that. I'm still brewing all grain 4-5 gallon batches on the kitchen stove. I try to brew as cheap as i can with the minimal equipment i have. I figure that it costs me about $2.50 per gallon to brew! Although yesterday, my 7 gallon stainless bucket fermenter showed up. That is the most money i have invested in this hobby. From september to may, my fermenter is always full. Ill be doing a leffe clone (belgian) tomorrow, and an IPA the next day.

Did you buy that Brew Bucket from SS Technologies? Those look pretty sweet!

I'm building my single vessel electric brew-in-a-bag entirely to save space. It will take up about a 2x2 space in the garage.

Planning to chill, ferment, condition, and serve all in Corny Kegs.

I'm all about a reduced brewing footprint in my garage!

Couple questions for you....I'm currently brewing all grain on an all manual, 3-tier, gravity fed propane system. How long does it take you to get your water to strike temperature? My well water is about 55 degrees, so going electric seems like it would take forever. What about to getting the wort to boiling? It would seem that electric would take longer. Electric sure would be nice, since I could keep my garage closed with the heat or a/c running if need be. Don't trust running propane burners in a closed garage.
