Well, in case anyone likes to see progress...
It was me...a 34 year old guy with VERY limited building experience; my father-in-law, an experienced contractor; and my Dad, a retired airplane mechanic
Started building a garage this week...well actually started last fall...put the foundation then...hired that out...just didn't have the equipment to do it...also had them run water conduit, gas line, and electrical conduit out...
Last week Sat., layed out and drilled all the sill plates
Sunday...got up 4.5 of 6 walls...
Monday...finished getting all the walls up and started roughing out windows and doors...some troubles with my measure skills led to a few minor set backs...
Tuesday...finished roughing out the windows and doors after freaking out that the concrete guys roughed out a 10' opening for a garage door when I wanted 9'...then realized I put on my plans 10' and figured that was a good call as I have a big truck...
Wednesday...got most of the walls sheeted
Thursday...finished a little more sheeting and final bracing for the walls to get ready for setting trusses...started setting trusses in the late morning...tried to move the girder (sp?) truss and realized we were in trouble...starting setting the trusses on the other side first and had all sorts of problems with them being a little bit longer (28') and what seemed to be heavier then we remember from setting other trusses...went out and rented a sky tracker lift...was working a little better but I have no experience using them...had a friend come over to work it and he was able to put them within what seemed to be a quarter in on the first try...got all of those 28' storage trusses up that night...most of them set in place.
Friday...snow/rain mix...finished setting the storage trusses and called it a day...
Saturday...banged out the 16' scissors trusses without too much problems other than my tape measure reading skills...
Sunday...got everyone cleaned up and on their way. I thought we did pretty okay...I was hoping to get the roof on and shingled put new that was probably being a bit optimistic...However, I'm happy we got as far as we did but am now feeling a bit overwhelmed at what still needs to be done...Trying to finish the garage on top of life...full-time job taking up 40 hours a week, part-time job taking up another ~10 hours/wk, coaching 2 youth soccer teams rules out M and W evenings as well as Sat mornings, coaching 1 flag football team rules out T nights and Sat early afternoons, etc...those aren't complaints...I feel very fortunate...just wishing for more time...
And yes...it's already too small...
