How easy are E Types to come by in the states then, its getting harder to find decent ones over here and when you do they are stupid money.

Ash

My personal feeling is that E-Types have taken a little bit of a hit over the last few years on this side of the pond. I think, in part, due to the economy downturn over here and partly due to the fact that stupid money now is going to '60s and '70s muscle cars (and old Corvettes). I'm basing most of this on watching the trends on the Barrett-Jackson car auctions over the past several years. Pristine E-Types that went for over $100,000 four or five years ago are now going for $75,000. Muscle cars, on the other hand, are going through the roof.
I haven't kept track of what E-Types are going for on ebay recently but I think a decent E-Type can be had for between $12 to $20,000 (I'll let you do the conversion to British Pound :) By decent, I'm referring to a driveable E-Type with a solid body and may only need some minor body work, minor engine work or good tuneup, new paint and/or interior and cosmetic upgrades.
To me the E-Type looks as good today as it did when it first hit the road.

Great garage!

There are still a number of E-Types around; prices vary.

This one is about 5 miles from me and is sweeeeet - but he's asking $175,000.

Coming back down to earth, you can find many of them in the $20K to $50K range.

Well added another car to the British collection over the weekend, this one is a quick winter project and should keep me out of trouble and keep another classic on the road, its a 1976 car but registered in the uk in 1981 so an export car but not sure where it was sent too yet.

There was a show on the Discovery Channel over here called A Car is Reborn which followed a full rebuild of an 1965 E Type which was excellent, the rebuild cost him £80000 and it was put up for sale at the Classic Car Show in Birmingham and if I remember rightly was up for £40000 and it was a stunner.

Definitely wasn't sent to North America...I'd bet Japan.

I never thought of Japan, it did cross my mind that it could have gone to the channel Islands as ive seen a few that came back from there after a few years and subsiquently were registered on the year they were re imported other than their manufactured year (stupid system i know). Anyway the location of the chassis number also confused me (on the bonnet slam pannel) as im not that up on Rubber Bumper models and tend to stick to the earlier cars (my 74 is a North American car) so I guess some more research is needed. Anyway where ever its been im still a happy as it only cost me £250 and its got 6 months MOT left on it :)

Not a great fan of MG`s but I like the Midgets. You have a bargain there and even I would have snapped that up for that price (even though I wouldn`t fit in it !)

The collection is growing rapidly. You wait for ages for a good deal then they all come along at once. Added 2 more MG's to the collection one slightly better than the other one.

And another one, stray cars just beg me to buy them and bring them home. A sad looking 1974 MGB GT which given a few weeks wont look so sad I hope.

You can tell where I am from, all I notice was the Jim Beam Cola....where did you get that, I haven't even seen it around here! Even though MGs are not very popular, you have a very nice collection!! I like all the collectables as well!

Just found your thread.

Some lovely stuff you have there.

Currently my garage is such a mess, it was a lot neater a couple of years ago, but now with the teardrop I am building, there is a lot of carry out, carry in going on.

Take a look at www.retrorides.proboards.com the guys there will love all your toys and the way you think.
Quite a few MG's on there too.

Hi, the Jim Beam Cola is just from a local supermarket for the times when your just too lazy to mix it yourself, they also do a JD one. MG's not popular is an odd one as the MG Owners Club is the Largest single marque car club in the world.

Nice garage and nice collection of cars. Really like that ZR160, they are extremely rare here in Denmark.

I must restate my comment, as I should have added a few words. For MG not being as prominate here in the United States, you have a very nice collection. Actually, one of my good friends growing up had a small red one (left hand drive, of course). I know they are popular, just not as common as say, your white vette. I still drool over your wonderful collection. Do you have any pictures of the restorations?

Exact opposite here mate, MG's are everywhere the Vette is much less common but still not unusual to see one. Ive got hundreds of restoration pics so Ill start a new thread later on and get some posted.

Dont panic, this stuff has been collected since 1997 and its not all expensive stuff, ive probably spent less on everything than my brotherinlaw has on one car. Where in Portugal are you, i visit Albufeira where a friend has a place and also Villamora where his boat is moored.

WOW ... real nice toys you've got!!!!

I have a question for you - is it fairly common to see an American truck over there. From various pictures I've seen of autos, they're fairly small cars or BMW, Mercedes, etc...

Belive it or not there are 3 2003 Model Dodge Rams all belonging to mates within 1 mile of my house and probably in a 10 mile radius there are another 5 or 6 but still not common to see them out and about, its just because I know they are there really and am friendly with the owners. Most people stay clear of them because they think they are heavy on fuel but if you ballance out that I can have mine on a specialist insurance policy and the road tax over here is cheaper than say a Range Rover or BMW thanks to it being an import and there are no official C02 figures so can only be based on engine size it all works out in my favour. Oh and ive not found a better vehicle for towing yet.

Just a couple of pics of the new project. Picked it up tonight and had it over the pit and cant see any reason it wont pass a test. Roll on the weekend and ill get cracking on it. Oh and it was only £325 so a right result I reckon.

I think it'd be awesome to see a full size truck in a sea of European cars!

People probably notice you more than say a Ferrari!

My truck certainly raises a few eyebrows when its parked up at the local supermarket taking up a couple of parking spaces. I have to allow extra time when I go anywhere with blokes around like the tip, garage etc as I always have to get the hood/bonnet open so they can have a poke at the engine.

I found it in Langley Moor when I went to see a 1981 GT LE that was on eBay and just happend to ask if he wanted to sell that one too and he did so we came to the deal and I couldnt be happier. It needs one patch on the drivers side heal board and thats all for MOT. It had new inner and outer sills last year along with castle rails and front dampers and a stainelss exhaust. It also came with a full new carpet set, c post liners, a full car cover and a host of rubber seals etc. All in all a result, only thing I can fault are the fiberglass front wings but hey who cares.
