Very cool looking.. I've thought about doin something like this too. I have the toe plates for the front, but I'd like to be able to measure camber too.

Good work. Longacre Racing wants $129 for their similar version, and it doesn't include the guage. If I may ask, what did you do to fasten the level to the adapter.Did you slot the ends so you can use tape measures to check toe, also?

Thanks Ric, yes, I did cut slots for the tape measures.
I used an L bracket to attach the level (which has pretty strong magnets on each end) to the vertical bar. Here's a picture.

Cool stuff - I am sure you have heard of the SmartRacing "SmartStrings"...they are easy to duplicate as well...I picked up all my alignment gear second hand but still not cheaper than making yourself...but still cheaper than one alignment and corner balance..:)

Used the alignment tool to set the toe, caster & camber over the weekend. Then took the Camaro out for it's first shake down run. WOW!!! This car is going to be a ton of fun. All the parts worked really well together.

Just went through the whole thread. Awesome transformation. Fellow Camaro guy here. Where did you purchase the Garagetrax flooring? I went back through the thread but did not see if you mentioned it.

I have had a 91 RS and 95 Z28. I sold the 95 in 2011 to focus on renovating our house (and garage!). There is pics of that car in my reno thread. I plan to get another Camaro project after my son is out of daycare (12 months and counting!)

Beautiful day today, spent it at a car show called Lead East.
Held every year here in NJ.
Here are a few things that caught my attention.

I haven't done too many updates to the garage lately. Been working on the cars and the rest of the house alot.
This is still my most favorite view of the garage, it always makes me smile when I open that door.

Paul,
Spent an hour or two going through your entire thread. Simply great job. Huge congratulations. Mind if I ask a few questions?

- What wood (I assume) is under the stainless bench tops? How is it fastened to the chests below or is it just gravity?

- Have you considered painting the other Craftsman chest carcass red to match your taller unit? I plan to buy the same Harbor Frieght wall cabinets you have and do the red/black two tone scheme on them.

- I have a very low ceiling in my shop - closer to 7ft. than 8ft. and I need new lighting. Currently there are ancient 8ft fluorescent units in there. Do you think your HD units would work in the situation?

Thanks Dan,
I don't know what kind of wood is under the stainless steel. they are Craftsman tops. They are screwed to the cab though.
Don't tell anybody but the smaller cab is a Harbor Frieght piece that I put a Craftsman badge on. It was $99 and the same Craftsman cab was $300 and not as nice. All the cabs are grey & black now. Someday I will buy a black tool chest to match.

With only a 7' ceiling I don't think I would use those lights. They are meant to be hung and give off ALOT of light. That would be pretty close to your head. Try one and see.

No idea how I've missed this transformation thread before today! I just love it!

So whenever I see a beautiful space like this, I've got to wonder how you were mentally able to let your garage get to the state it was in in the beginning. Haha I don't mean to offend, but you seem like the type of guy that is quite organized, so what happened dude?? (I will accept the answer of: LIFE.)

Anyway, you killed it with this space man. It's awesome and I'm now subscribed.

I know exactly what you mean. Does a switch just go off? I'd love to hear some insight into it.

Place looks great, Paul. Just great.

To answer your's and Rick's question, you first have to realize that both the Camaro and the garage where in bad shape when I got them. They sort of matched pretty well. As I started to tear into the Camaro and restore it, I also started to visit a web site called Pro-touring.com. The original goal for the Camaro started out as a simple rebuild back to stock with a few small upgrades. Visiting Pro-touring.com made me want more for the car. As the car started to get better and better it made the garage look like a turd. I started looking for a few small upgrade for the garage and then, I found GarageJournal.com. As Pro-touring.com made me want more for my car, GarageJournal.com made me want more for my garage. Like the car, what started out as a few small upgrades turned into a full blown renovation. I am thrilled to have found both web sites because now I not only have the best hotrod I have ever owned(and I've had about 20 of them) but I have the best garage and workspace I have ever had. I'm having the time of my life.
I also truly believe that both these projects have expanded my skill sets immensely. I hope this gives you a little insight into my journey, and it's definitly not over yet. It has only just begun.
Have a great one guy's and thanks for all your support, guidance, and friendship.

Paul,

I can really relate to your post. While working on various projects on my car, I came to a website called hidplanet.com. After a while on that site I saw a link to garagejournal.com. One look and I was hooked! I also realized that while trying to work on projects for my car, I didn't really have a decent place to work. Yes I have a good sized garage, but it is a mess. So like you, it changed my thinking. And FWIW, Iv'e been a Camaro fan since I was a kid, and yours is a real beauty. Great work, and feel free to post pics of it as often as you'd like.

Haha, the curse of the modern forum. If you want to get overly involved in ANYTHING, there's a forum for that. :bounce:

Awesome garage build, I really really really need to get back to work on mine :(

I also love using the POD idea, one of the things I was concerned with was when I go to do my floors I have ALOT of stuff to move out and the POD might be a good choice to help with this.

I have to say the POD idea was one of my better ones. It made everything SOOOO much easier.

Well, summer is pretty much over. Starting to get the garage ready for winter. Brought the snow blower out from the shed and gave it a freshening up. New oil, gas, sparkplug, and it still wouldn't start. Turns out I had no spark so pulled the coil and $40 later runs like a champ again. I am now ready for the snow. The drip tray I bought for it worked great last winter at keeping my floor clean so out it comes again.
I also switched from Corona in the garage refrig to some heavier beers for the winter. Priorities, right?

Excellent choice of priorities! I sure don't miss having to winterize anything, or think anything about snow, LOL. Just hope the winter back East isn't as bad as last year! I need a guaranteed supply of propane for the BBQ.
