Re: My garage, repurposed!

Ok, it didn't take long to try everything out and stock the cart. Had to wait til like 7:30 and it was still 100 degrees out! But the front of the house gets the afternoon shade so wasn't too bad. The foam cannon is a dream! Washed, was as dried, trim and rubber cleaned and tucked back in the garage. Haha.

Re: My garage, repurposed!

Bite envious of your pool photo's. One thing I will miss when I move back to my other property when my divorce dust settles is the pool. Granted it's still cold here in the North East but I have swam a few times already. When the temps were in the 80's last week.

Love how you repurposed the cabinets to suit your needs as well. I have been taking not from various threads on what people do.

I recently purchased a foam cannon as well and am loving it so far. Do you like how short that handle is when using it with the foam cannon and spray nozzles? I was considering trading out my short hose and longer Karcher wand to go with a longer hose and the short handle. Would you recommend it?

Thanks! They've all worked out very well and at minimal cost. We love the pool, that's for sure! Sorry to hear of the divorce. Good luck to you.

I like that target car im definitely going to pick one of those up

It's pretty sweet for only $25. I found out about them on a Facebook page, IKEA has one as well as Costco and Staples but this one wins with most people. The IKEA one has an adjustable middle shelf but no locking castors.

I don't mind the short handle for the foam cannon but man trying to rinse the whole truck after the wash with the shirt handle and different tips is tough, my right hand was hurting halfway through. I do plan to buy a longer more flexible hose, I've read there's one from Northern Tool that works well for car washing and stays flexible. My current one doesn't reach around the whole vehicle which isn't a huge deal for most but here in AZ last night it was 100 degrees still at 7:30 and I didn't want the truck to dry before I could rinse it all.

That's what I use, too. Not enough suds or what?

No I had plenty of suds. I was just told there are better products out there and to look for a good ph neutral soap. This coming from detailers. Products like these:

Great now I'm going to have to get a pressure washer and a foam cannon. LOL I do it the low tech way with a lawn sprayer you attach to garden hose and dial in how heavy I want the soap. It works but seems like that works so much better.

Haha. It is very nice for sure. If I was starting out I may go electric pressure washer so it'd be quieter, plus I believe as you're washing when you let off the trigger it shuts off, pluck the trigger it turns back on. Which is nice. I turned my gas one off while scrubbing the truck with a mitt. Then back in to rinse. Not a huge deal but something to think about. Thanks for commenting, I've been keeping an eye on your thread and all your changes. Hope all is well!

SD: now you'll have to park 2 blocks away if you are going to have a new truck and keep it clean when stopping at garage and estate sales.

I see you sign collection is improving also. how's life in the warm climate with a nice pool in your backyard?

it was 80 up here yesterday and i saw 2 people installing their AC units in their homes. i actually could feel some MOLD coming out of me too.

cheers

Sign collection is growing. It is supposed to hit 107 today, it is toasty. Pool is refreshing but I dislike the temps for the simple fact it ***** to do anything in the garage. I sold a portable A/c when we moved. I should've kept it for the garage. May get another one soon!

Cough up that mold and get it out of there. Haha.

If I wait til 7pm or later the sun is in the back/side of the house so it makes garage time bearable. It's worth it for blue skies and sun the rest of the year. [emoji274][emoji16]

Re: My garage, repurposed!

We spent Memorial Day weekend camping near Payson, AZ with a group of friends. i finally got the inside of the truck cleaned up today and also added the hooks to the new detail cart for my foam cannon to hang on.

A few pics of camping and the cart, kids had a blast. My older daughter and I ended up getting a Stomach bug the last night though and were down for the count the ride home and all day Tuesday. Luckily the wife took care of everything coming home, unloaded all camping gear and made the entire drive home.

Thanks, I have looked at those online but I do love the nostalgia of percolator coffee. That's one thing I love when camping. It always tastes delicious, I just hate how long it takes. May pick one of those up in the future! How's your garage time going these days?

Re: My garage, repurposed!

Well, my most recent layout is coming along very slowly. Its more if I have the time I don't have the motivation if I had the motivation I don't have the time. I have others things trying to figure out so haven't completed nearly as much as I would've hoped that by now. This is a whole new concept for me so it's taking a bit longer to figure out all the details.

I hear you on the motivation. 100 degree days are here in AZ for a few months so time out there is limited to mornings and evenings. I'm on vacation all this week so I'm trying to spend some time getting a few things done.

SD: I haven't camped since i was a little kid with my parents. my wife's version of camping is a new hotel without a restaurant in it or across the street. i have to ask since i'm always learning. how do you keep snakes, scorpians, lizards and other critters out of your tent or space?

sorry to hear it's TOO HOT, but it's 80 up here now and not too bad. i keep the mold in me and the skin between my toes just because it could rain again.

cheers

Well as far as those you mentioned I guess you just hope for the best. We kept the tent closed at all times. We saw lots of lizards running around, didn't see any snakes or scorpions. We see scorpions in our yard pretty at home pretty often, they usually hide in rocks and dark places. We were camping at 5000' elevation in pine trees so I'm not even sure scorpions are up there.

Now, what we did have to watch out for was black bears. There were warnings all over and a sighting a couple weeks prior. We had to put all food and anything fragrant in the trucks at night or if we left. Warnings said don't even have toothpaste, chapstick etc in your tent. Or wear the clothes you cooked in that may smell like food to bed. That made the trip a little stressful. The campground was also a horse camp so throughout the night we'd hear horses neighing and coyotes howling, which all made us wonder if it was because of a bear near or wandering by. Wasn't the best nights sleeps! Haha.

We will definitely be buying a small RV someday!

My garage, repurposed!

Spent some time this past weekend deep cleaning the Civic. I drive it every day for work and boy does it get dirty. Spot treated and pressure washed the floor mats. Spot treated the upholstery and detailed the inside and trunk. Washed the exterior! Need to wax soon but it's just too hot for that. Maybe in a few months.

I had some good helpers too! Love having the wall mount vacuum ready to work.

I remembered the previous owners of the house left this drying rack in the laundry room that we never use so now it will live in the garage for drying stuff like floor mats and microfiber towels.

After the car I fixed my roll around seat with a new piece of plywood. This is a true sign that I need to get into shape and lose about 20-30 lbs. Haha

Re: My garage, repurposed!

Got the whole family out at 6:30 this morning to help me trim the fan palms and hedges before the heat hits! Done at 10:30! 10 trees trimmed. 98 degrees at 10:45. Trailer full and ready for the dump. It may be the last time I trim the one that's as tall as the house. That was a battle. And half of them had blooms full of bees so that was fun! My neighbor and I were both out mowing and trimming last night at 8pm before it got dark. It was still over 100 but once the suns gets down it actually feels nice. Now everyone's swimming!bb298d476dfa4749db4b3ae2e1c1e285.jpg

SD: your place looks great. i'm not sure i'd be liking 100 degrees throughout the day, but i'm glad you have a pool and are figuring it out.

nice work on the Craftsman roller and might i suggest a thicker piece of wood in case it breaks again (or maybe you already did that), or you are welcome to come over to the Get Healthy thread if you'd like to lose a few pounds like the rest of us. here's the link in case you didn't know i started one. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=298568

sorry to hear the CAMPING was a little stressful, but sounds like you and your family like hanging out together.

keep involving your girls in the projects in the garage and even if things take a bit longer i know they will appreciate it later just knowing how to do a few things that DAD TAUGHT THEM.

cheers

keep involving your girls in the projects in the garage and even if things take a bit longer i know they will appreciate it later just knowing how to do a few things that DAD TAUGHT THEM.

cheers

Thanks Drives. I try to keep them involved as much as I can. They're good little worker bees! Camping was good, but made us realize how much we appreciate an RV. I may have to start following your healthy eating thread closer, need some motivation!

My garage, repurposed!

New project coming up!

Wife and kids got me a new electric pressure washer for Father's Day. Then my wife said just order all that stuff you've been wanting off amazon that's in the cart. I know that's what you want(birthday is Thursday).

So I did. New hose reel showed up today. 50' pressure washer hose and fittings come tomorrow. I also bought quick connects at Lowe's so plan is to have pressure washer hooked up permanently. Just turn water on and power and wash cars! Now I'll have air hose reel, extension cord reel and pressure washer reel! I like it. I'll post pics of installation. I plan to rearrange the workbench some to mount the reel under my existing air compressor and air reel location.

Just need to find time to do it with this heat!

SD: we'd love to have you join our group on the GET HEALTHY thread and we all have our various reasons and methods of trying to accomplish getting healthier.

great BDay presents and your wife and kids are KEEPERS that is for certain and not just because they buy you cool stuff.

funny i saw your post and then when we heard a couple at the restaurant on Alki say they were in Arizona this morning and it was 119 I could feel the heat up here. well almost, but not really. our first day of summer on Alki had about 50 degrees and some wind so i was sporting a sweatshirt and wishing i'd had a shirt under it or a coat on.

cheers and i know AC helps, but that heat would maybe be worse for me than ours here in the PNW.

Re: My garage, repurposed!

I finally got some time this morning to get my new pressure washer hose reel installed and I wanted to post how I have it all setup. It's been 110-120 this week here in AZ so decent time to work in the garage is limited!

First I ran a splitter off the front hose bib and ran a 25' garden hose under our cinder block fence to the side garage door with a hose hanger just outside the door. When I'm ready to pressure wash the hose it just connects to the washer with QC's through the door. Someday I may install a proper spigot in the garage but didn't want to bother with that for now.

The pressure washer sits right inside the side door under the end of the work bench. I ran the 20' hose that came with the pressure washer behind all the work benches and it connects to the new 4000 psi hose reel.

On the hose reel is a 50' hose with quick connects on the one end to adapt to the wand or foam cannon. I fired it all up and tested it and it worked great with no leaks!

Unfortunately it's just too hot to wash the cars yet to truly test it out!!! It was 104 by 9:30 this morning with a high of 115 today!

Above the pressure washer reel is the 50' air hose reel and at the garage door opener is the 50' extension cord reel mounted to the ceiling. It's so handy and clean having all the reels available.

I also have the Honda 2500psi gas washer I can use if I want but I really like the electric for washing cars. It's obviously quieter but shuts off when you let off the trigger, that's what makes electric so good for washing cars to me.

That's a slick setup with the pressure washer. It will sure make it ton easier to use. I like electric for cars and some other items and you can always break out gas unit to do the bigger jobs.

Thanks! Exactly my thoughts. The gas one is more portable and more powerful but loud and obnoxious for washing cars.

We survived, it actually started cooling down early September... well, Cool for us. In the high 90’s! Not a whole lot done through the summer. Yard work and inside stuff. Maybe a few projects soon as it’s starts to cool off more. Also, I’ve been super busy at work as we gained a large account I’ve been involved with since May which will complete early November. I have a lot of vacation scheduled through end of the year so that’ll help. Thanks for checking in, great to see you back on GJ! Hope all is well!

tagged for reference.. I like some of the things you've done for storage.

Thanks!

My garage, repurposed!

Well, a little activity worth sharing! Over the last couple days we trimmed all our palms and hedges, and over-seeded the lawn with winter blend. I counted and we have 26 palms! I didn't trim all of them this time but man, they are work! It'd be nice to pay someone to trim them but as many as we have it would be a fortune. We also added some new flowers and hanging baskets and bought a cover for the pool to try and get a few more weeks of swimming this year and at the start of next season. From what I've read you'll gain about 8 weeks of swimming at the end of season and beginning after winter so that'll be nice. Wife and kids are excited about it.

I did a complete tune up on the free craftsman mower I got in 2014. It was having a hard time starting so new spark plug, air filter and oil change and a little cleaning and it started up on the first pull.

Also, I've had an Echo gas weed eater for years. It was running a little rough and starting to leak fuel around the grommet where fuel lines enter the tank. I visited Home Depot and they sell a complete fuel line kit, it replaces the primer bubble, all fuel lines, the rubber grommet and fuel filter. Also replaced spark plug and air filter and it's now running like a champ as well! All in all a productive couple days around the compound.

Re: My garage, repurposed!

SD: so when trimming palm trees do you need thick leather gloves and are the leaves pretty sharp?

your place looks more like home everytime i check in on you. now that your weather is maybe perfect and in the 80's instead of 120's how do you like it? it's rained maybe 10 inches in the past week here in case you want to GLOAT A BIT.

cheers

hope all is well in your part of the world and any updates even if it's only you drinking a beer next to your pool in 80 degrees to warm us up a little up here?

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
