My Hose is Sticky

On my AC I am using a 3/8" black rubber goodyear brand hose. The hose is about 2-3 years old now. Just this winter I have noticed it has become sticky. Almost like its been coated in heavy weight oil and been sitting out collecting dust. I typically give the hose a wipedown after a job if its been collecting **** on the ground but its usually only the last 10 or so feet that get dirty. When trying to clean off the hose it doesnt seem to come completely clean after wiping down with some citrus degreaser.

Is this possibly just small amounts of compressor oil seeping through ( dont usually have any noticeable oils coming out when draining the tank)? Or could this be a bad batch of rubber breaking down?

Your Air Conditioner???:dunno:

I would assume Air Compressor. But I have always used brake clean to clean my old GY hose. I do the same with the flexzilla I have now before diving into interior jobs.

Edit: you beat me to it. But I've never had a sticky hose!! Ha

That is why it is best to type the full words, not use abbreviations. Old people like me don't use texting, so we don't understand modern abbreviations when they conflict with known abbreviations that have been in use for over 60 years.... A/C has meant air conditioning since the early 1950's. :lol_hitti

I can't remember the last time that I had a sticky hose...

I've got the yellow goodyear, and no issue when I wipe down with brake cleaner or parts solvent.

I have seen some citrus products that have funky oils in them, maybe that's not playing nice with your hose? Example, I cleaned my stove with some citrus cleaner once, and I eventually ended up wiping the whole thing down with alcohol just to get rid of the oily streaks.

Hmmm. Im going to try brake cleaning it and seeing what happens. I just find it strange that its developed this film on ot over its entire length. I dont think ive ever actually cleaned the upper half before nor has anything been used close enough to aerosol the whole hose.

My yellow Goodyear hose did the same thing. I cleaned it with, I think, Simple Green, and it was ok. Like one of the earlier posts suggested, try a couple of different cleaners on it.

Same thing happened to my red air hose this winter.
It's stored in the garage, but it has been a ridiculously cold winter.

I also have a black USA made Goodyear rubber hose that is roughly 10 years old that is doing the same thing.

In the winter it gets oily and sticky like it's venting off chemicals or something, but is in like new condition with no cracks or anything just sticky when cold.

That is a well known and reported issue with some of their black hoses sold through HF. I've had their yellow pro grade hose for 5+ years and have no issues like that. Although I have read where people had problems with all colors of goodyear hoses doing this. You can try wiping it with a alcohol soaked paper towel, but you will probably be looking at a new hose to solve your problem.

I'm with Junkman, AC is house wire or air conditioning.

I've had hoses break down and get all kinds of crappy. Your sticky hose is probably getting ready to crack, blow off the crimped end and make a big noisy mess. These things don't last forever.
