It's not much - but it gets things done.

Because of this forum I have undone, redone, upgraded, and rearranged more times than I really want to remember....but the place has come a long way from when I moved in and inherited a poorly "built" (and i use the term "built" pretty loosely) bench constructed of 2x4's and plywood.

We got this place right out of college - and have no plans of staying here forever. So I'm staying away from going too far in here....it's more than adequate for now. I've been adding plywood to the 2 unfinished walls and painting. You'll obviously notice this is a work in progress.

Anyway....

Panning to the left a bit - i fought with myself for a long time about adding pegboard...but it's been a great addition. really cleaned up the stuff i had sort of haphazardly hanging from nails around the window...

This cabinet is the newest addition....still need to make the face frame and add a shelf inside of it. Paint it of course. But it's been a great addition...been wanting to put something like this above this window for a while.

Hope to upgrade the cheap plastic cabinet here with a metal version this winter (seville or gladiator most likely). I'm trying the wood bench in this spot for a while....so far I like it here much much more than I thought I would.

so that's it.....not a gem by any means. I'm kicking around adding racedeck in here too - at least where i work on the kart, but just cant pull the trigger...

What kind of contraption do you have holding the latter to the ceiling?

2 vinyl coated hooks at one end (2 keeps it from "twisting" while up there), and at the other end a hang-all like this:

actually - this works pretty well for me. freed up the wall where the pegboard now lives. I can lift the lower rungs onto the hooks, and then left the other end of the ladder to secure the velcro on the hang-all. It's my yankee solution to ladder storage ;)

I like it. It's a nice working garage.

You might look for a used anti-fatigue type mat for around where you work on the kart. Racedeck is pretty, but I don't know that it's significantly more comfortable to stand on than concrete.

Nice job on raising the ladder. I hung my ladder on the ceiling with custom brackets in my 2-car, and it really freed up some wall space for me.

Nice job with the garage!

I really like the layout; well organized and functional. I noticed the red cabinet with drills sitting on top. I've got a line on a Steelcase file cabinet with 10 smaller drawers with a divider down the middle. Similar to what where the old card files. I'm anxious to get it in a few weeks - will be using for small parts and fasteners. It looks similar to your red cabinet.

Very nice space SpeedCoach

That's effectively what that red cabinet is. Thread here.

Once I had it all cleaned up, I actually ended up removing the middle drawer divider....gave me more flexibility with organizing the fastener containers.

@Jack - the racedeck (for me) is partially for aesthetic purposes, but mostly for easier cleanup. I've slung a lot of oil around this garage and the concrete is just ugly. I'd love an anti fatigue mat in front of the craftsman bench with drawers though....spend a lot of time at that one.

thanks for the compliments guys!

boy how I miss kart racing. Seeing your ticket to fun on the stand brought back alot of memories of time at the track with my son. He raced a stock spec class and I ran a .170" overbored briggs with a stroker kit on alcohol. Great times,

Your ladder hanging 'system' is giving me inspiration... if you want to call I'm going to HD to get some hooks like that 'inspiration'. :D Nothing wrong with a functional 2-car.

Nice, functional space. How do you like the Craftsman workbench? The one with the drawers I mean

I like it for what I now use it for....which is mostly light assembly work, etc. I keep sockets, screw-drivers, and drill bits in those drawers. It was the first bench i bought and at one point had my wilton vise on it - but it proved a little flimsy/wobbly for my liking with anything in the vise and for any work involving "persuasion." I should note that I covered the MDF work surface with some left-over laminate flooring I had to make it more durable and less apt to absorb fluids.

Seeing a kart just makes my ribs hurt. I'm too old. :)

Come on now! Im in my 30's! a ribvest goes a long way to helping the ribs though - i will say that. I'm starting to eyeball some SCCA stuff though (formula stuff and/or spec miata)....moving up to a real car would be fun (but pricier - the wife pretty much leaves me alone with what the kart costs).

As to being the dad on the block that makes the others jealous - i dont know :lol_hitti I'm just a washed up college athlete that still needs my competitive fix!!!! that and i'm hoping the racing will point my daughter in a direction other than cheerleading!!!

Somebody had to bring up the bruised rib memories, I was jsut remembering the good times. The alcohol I used to burn in mine, the 60 mph backstraight an inch off the ground, I had almost forgotten Monday mornings after a race weekend.
