Hello,

I really love your collection of both cars and signs.
But as a Norwegian i have to ask; why do you have a giant Norwgian flag in your garage?

Best regards,
Sindre

Hey Lee
I didn't know your thread existed or I would have been here much sooner
I love your set up and yes we have very similar tastes. Your stop lights are great and your moon eyes look very good are you an artist?
I have a buddy that draws all my stuff.
So like me do you find it harder to get back to working on the cars?
And more enjoyable creating new from old?
You are very good at it. I will be looking in often
Thanks for the heads up.
Don

Hi Don

Thanks for the positive words mate, sorry but i am not an artist i just just enjoy painting, everything is just fine line masked and painted, no free hand stuff. I fabricate everything which what i really enjoy and i could tig weld all day if i had the chance, I mainly use to buy a car then restore it and sell it on but now i have a problem of wanting to keep them all.
I usually find a picture and go to our office works and have them blow it up to size and from there i will transfer it over to 3mm plywood so i can cut it out of it for a template for the plasma cutter, so not really any skill involved like a sign writer or artist but still alot of work mate. thanks for looking Don and i can't wait to see those new sign's of yours mate. lee

Do the traffic lights alternate or can you only have one color on at a time ?
I made a Xmas tree some years back and I am still trying to work out how to set the lights in sequence.

Hi HOTFR8,

At the moment all the greens come on for 10 sec then amber for 5sec and red for 15sec, we bought the sequences from ebay in America they are 12volt units. My wife is the sparky so i will have to ask her on if we can change them. In the near future i am planning on making a couple of drag lights with different themes eg: famosa raceway, orlando raceway, so i want them to all work in a proper sequence as well. I can send you the link for the guy in America who sells the sequencers if you would like. We also put led bulbs in them so power usage and lifespan of the bulbs was better. cheers lee

There are lots of options available;

1. timer and relay set up.
2. Small logic controller.
3. An irrigation timer switching relays.

Of course a lot of how you set it up and cost would be dependant on the voltages you are intending to run the lights at, with a 240 volt system you would need to comply to AS/NZS 3000:2007 Electrical installation standards, where as a 12 or 24 volt system the standards are not so much of an issue.

Hi 1/2 Cup

Thanks for helping out on the technical stuff, i will ask the wife about some of those options for our next projects the dragracing tree. I would never of thought about an irrigation timer setup so thanks for that. lee

Hi Sindre

The flag is actually the American bannister style red white and blue for when they have elections on and things like that mate. When i was over their on a recent trip an antique shop had them all the way around his hand rails on the top floor, He had a couple for sale so i grabbed one. thanks for looking lee

I will do a bit of research on the most cost effective way we can sort this. Will be in touch. I am back at work tomorrow.

A lot of good information in that. When I made up my lights you could buy a 240 volt controller (Clipsal brand strobe controller) and when I went to purchase them they had gone off the market. Shared forum information is very help full.

1/2 Cup I will await to hear from you.

Lee,

I will do some research over the next week or so, i may be able to scrounge some bits, or at the very least come up with a suitable design for both yours and HOTFR8 projects.
Cheers

It looks to me that Lee and I could be looking for the same thing. I would have used the Clipsal strobe controller on each of the three leads and all would have worked well for me. I was also considering a simostat (like a thermostat) as a controller but I would need three and they are bulky compared to the now obsolete Clipsal strobe controller unit.

Forward on the details of the sequencing unit when available and I could work a circuit diagram to suit either a 240 or a low voltage application that's going to be safe and meet the standards. Happy to assist in any way that I can.
The thing that we need to be mind full of is the operating voltage and frequency of the gear in the states differs from ours, so I recommend that you look for a sequencer that operates at either 12 or 24 volts D.C.

Thats how the Clipsal unit would have been perfect for mine except they went off the market. As it is all wired 240 volt.

Lee,

Looks to me like 1/2Cup may be able to help us both here and make it with local parts.

He has done some design work as well as some homework. I take it after speaking with him today he has some good ideas that will run your Traffic lights and my Xmas tree.

If you want PM myself or 1/2Cup for the drawing / design work.

Hi HOTFR8,

I will get the wife to look at them when she gets back into Australia. The way we have the lights operating at the moment all three greens go then then the amber and so on, but it would be great to have them the other way that 1/2 cup has said so i will be looking into it more.
I was looking into doing a couple of dragracing trees so hopefully they will work them as well.

So lately i have been out working on a friends pickup, he had 2 other panelbeaters working on it before i had a go. I pretty much started from scratch as everything they did was a bit on the average side. He was going to get me to paint it black but then decided on a pastel green as he lives on a dirt road.

I went out with a mate to purchase another bellytank for his collection. We left it at my place until he can sneak it into his shed without the wife knowing. The guy had some signs and bottles that i purchased off him as well.

Paint job looks great on the Chevy cab, I always like that color or green. That color reminds me of 40's era advertising stuff, don't know why?
Belly tanks are always cool, just having that display in the yard would get a lot of attention.
Its hard to find people around here that can do the quality of work you do, sure wish we lived closer.
The Coke buttons are getting harder to find, and if they are not full of holes or dents almost like hens teeth.
The oil toppers look cool, I think the few that I have just are stamped with the Standard Oil, haven't seen too many painted like that, you sure find some neat old stuff. OK back to work.

Love the pickup and the signs.

I bought a couple more vintage style signs at a swap meet a little while back. I've got to pull finger and hang them up. My wife bought me a nice one the other day too.

Cheers

Hi Herb, thanks for the kind words mate, the colour is very subtle which is what he wanted so he is happy. If you ever come across a 36" coke button sign at the right price can you let me know as i am on the hunt for one.
There are a couple on ebay at the moment but most wont send to Australia, and the ones that will aren't realistic on the freight or price of the buttons. Hope everything is going well over their Herb, i can't wait to get back over for another holiday and some good road trips. lee

Hi Michael, you need to get them signs up mate and show us some pics on your build. They make some pretty cool repro signs now which can save you thousands. And if you have your wife buying you signs you are best off keeping her mate ;). lee
