Well, i have been lurking here for a while and thought i would finally introduce myself and show you my dirty shop.
For a little background about this place.
This house and shop was built by my grandparents in about 1993. The lot is located on a cul-de-sac so the lot is one of the largest in the neighborhood at about a third of an acre. My grandfather was a machinist all of his life starting before WWII and continuing up until he retired in the 80's. In about 1977 he bought the Victor lathe and then the Enco mill a few years later. After he officially retired he made ornamental brass things, Such as custom solid brass door knobs, for higher end clients. He actually made a lot of the hardware for Jerry Jones house in Dallas when it was being built in the mid 90's. He continued this up until 2 years ago when he started to lose his eye sight so he had to give it up.

My Grandparents moved into a retirement home about two years ago and shortly after is when my family moved in.

The shop is a detached 15x30 with 8 foot ceilings and is totally sheetrocked. I haven't really changed much in the shop except add some drawers into the workbench and redo the old Quincy compressor and add a hose reel with a motorcraft air filter.

Anyway here are the pics. They are taken from the main door and look from right to left.

There is also a single garage that has been "Given" to me for my use. That is where i do all of the welding and also where my tools are. They are nothing special just a harbor freight 42" wide top and bottom box full of Craftsman tools and 2 Snap On ratchets. The welding table is 24"x48" and 36" tall. It has a 1/2" thick top and a drawer underneath for storage of tungsten and brushes and what not.
Here is a picture of the welding table along with some projects i've done lately.

Welcome -- your setup is pretty slick. The fact that you grandfather worked in there is a definite plus. If it were me, I would keep everything "as is" to honor his memory. I like the tools and the use of space. The racks are a great addition.

Good luck --

That’s a fairly well equipped machine shop. Besides the sturdy lathe, the mill that has a Kurt style vise and rotary table. Also a nice cut-off band saw, drill press, arbor press, belt sanders, tube bender, and a big old bench vise. Looks as if you could make all kinds of interesting parts. Enjoy,, you have to think about your grandfather when you're playing in there...

Yeah i like it a lot. i will keep most everything the same, as it is a pretty sweet setup. I think actually using it like it was intended is the best homage i can pay.

Thanks, that was this past christmas' project. It was for my good buddy's S10 so i cant answer about the bilsteins.

Yeah its more than enough to keep me busy. That tubing bender was the last thing that i made that required any machining. now i can bend and make all kinds of stuff.
The band saw is a 20 year old carolina. I have a bimba air cylinder that im gonna make a hydraulic descent cylinder out of so i don't have to hold the saw up when i cut.
I always have a machining question or two for my Grandpa when i call or go see him. It's sad to see how much he misses it but i think he knows its in good hands.

I spy a Quincy...I think.

Yeah that was my Dad's old quincy. 2 hp motor and is supposed to do 8scfm at 100 psi. I just replaced the tank under it with the one you see now over Christmas. the old tank had handfuls of rust coming out. It wasn't pretty. One craigslist wanted ad and 50$ later i had a brand new 30 gallon speedaire tank.
