OP, what is the tiger made out of? I think you did an awesome job of reporpoising it AND keeping the family memory alive.

It is made of fiberglass, the sign is heavier than the tiger, lol!

Thanks, appreciate the kind words, I'm super stoked with how it turned out.

Jon Fettig, he was really active on tdiclub for a long time. He was a Malone tuner for a long time as well. He has a '98 ish Passat that came with the motor mounted longitudinal. He built that car into a compound. Also I think he helped tune that R32 tdi as well. Small world!

Oh yeah, I know Jon, haven't heard that name in a long time! I used to chat with him rather frequently when I was building my car, definitely a small world!

Bathroom update, I was away for some work travel, but the tile man kept plugging along. He got the shower all waterproofed, laid out the floor tile, then got the heated floor system laid out. Today he should get started on the flooring install.

Starting to look like a usable space!

Small bathroom update, floor tile is all down, outer portion of the knee wall is up and he got started on the shower yesterday.

It's all coming together rather nicely

Knee wall, unfortunately the floor is covered up with backer board to keep it from getting scratched

Fouckhest, some great updates going on in here!

I really like the way you sectioned off your parts room. That looks really clean without being out of place. I also like the continuation of the corrugated metal and wood theme. I think the fridge is a little farther than I would have gone, but I like it nonetheless. I think an old lever lock fridge would be what I wanted here. Oh well, it's a shop fridge so it doesn't matter too much haha. I just really like your dedicated lounge space. Very cool.

Bathroom progress is awesome, I think that's going to look the business when all is said and done.

Keep at it!

Thanks Tom, appreciate it!

The fridge needed some sort of a "fix up" so that seemed to be the most logical choice since I had the metal. Agree, an old fridge would have been sweet, but this fridge cools things and was free many years ago...too many other irons in the fire to worry about buying another fridge....

Yep, totally get that. Spending money on the shop fridge is not a major requirement when you're in the midst of building and maintaining a couple of cars, doing wood projects, rebuilding a bathroom...

Either way, it looks awesome down there!

Tile man is making strides this week, update as of this morning, he is going to be finishing the border around the nook today and hopefully getting started, if not finished the grout work today!

Very excited at how bright it is in there given the tiny window on the other end of the bathroom

I have to say I am stoked about this part, my fiancé searched high/low for tile for in the nook and this is what she decided on! She said it was her way of bringing a little of me into the bathroom! :ROFLMAO: She's pretty cool

Didn't even realize that I had started this thread just over 2yrs ago, crazy how fast time goes....

Anyhow, we are one step closer to having our master suite complete! Tileman finished up yesterday, got the vanity temporarily moved into the bathroom so the drywall guys can come finish up the bedroom at the end of this week. Took some time to do some general cleanup last night, then hooked up the heated floor thermostat, that was fun to play with and not find any issues!

Shower all done

Niche all done
52304763457_5c07ce8440_c.jpgUntitled by fouckhest, on Flickr

Vanity in place...still needs a coat of sealer....but certainly put some perspective on space really quick

Floor heating thermostat hooked up...this was great to see! Tests pass, and I didn't even study :ROFLMAO:
52305487931_7c0c93fcef_c.jpgUntitled by fouckhest, on Flickr

It is a very cool unit, programable by the day with different on/off times....I'm sure it will take some time to figure out
52305503556_8bb2db02ef_c.jpgUntitled by fouckhest, on Flickr

Next up, drywall, then button up plumbing and finalize toilet shopping....what a rabbit hole that has been, I never knew how expensive toilets could be :eyecrazy:

It's nothing short of amazing how fast a couple guys that are proficient can knock out drywall work. Hired a guy to come in and finish up the bedroom drywall, maybe 2.5hrs they were in/out, hung half a dozen sheets, then last night I knocked out the corner trim for the doors we want to keep open and maybe do barn doors down the road.

Finally starting to come together.

Hallway looking down to the master, this wall used to have the old bathroom door, the linen closet door and the bathroom door, apparently I didnt take a good "before photo"

Looking into the bedroom from the hallway/doorway, had 1x 12ft sheet of drywall left over, need to see if i can return that

Another small, but very motivating (and humbling) update....Its amazing what guys that know what they are doing can accomplish in a short amount of time. The guys to finish the drywall showed up ~10am Saturday, mudded the bedroom and hallway, left ~430pm....back yesterday for ~2hrs and they are done....the room looks way better than I would have ever imagined, very excited to get some primer on the walls this week!

Obviously still rough looking, but should really change the space once we get some primer on the walls.

Been following along and love the garage!!

I bet it feels good to see the progress without putting in all the grunt work. Drywall/mudding/taping is definitely not my cup of tea either.

What's your plans for the floors in here? Refinish, or are you going to lay something new over them?

Thanks Eddie, appreciate the kind words! It certainly is nice to not have to grind away at the drywall finishing.

As much as it pains me, the floors will be getting covered, we don't really have enough wood flooring from the old closet to tie in the floor. for now we are just going to do a laminate of some sort, color/flavor still TBD by the misses....we are at the point its time to start being mindful of budget and just get it done....its time to get back to working in the garage! :)

That bathroom is turning out just awesome. I love the tile and the little nod to you in that wall niche. Very cool.

Bedroom starting to look like something with the drywall all mudded and taped!

After a several year absence on GJ, I got hooked again this week as I contemplate a new shop build. I just did a full 12 page read here this morning. Thank you for a great build thread and for taking away the better part of a Saturday morning, lol. I’m worn out. ESSO tiger and your overall creativity and clean work - I just love. Great inspiration.

Thank you for the kind words, its been fun project for sure!

Shoot me a link to your build if you have one or when you get one going, I certainly enjoy following along and continuing to gather ideas!

Bathroom came great, I have system just like that. It's awesome on cold mornings.

Super happy to hear that, it was definitely not something we originally planned, but seemed like it would be a nice addition.

Thanks buddy! The vortex is like Keith Richards, you cant kill it!

Been chatting with some folks over there on general theme/schemes, etc....put this very crude rendering together, but got me excited to really start pushing to get it ready for a winter project!

Just my opinion but keep the original garage door!! Every garage I see that has a divided room with a garage door makes me want to figure out a way to add one in my garage. LOL

Hi @cuznlucky, there will always be a door of some sort there, the standard garage door is a bit of a pain for a couple reasons:
  1. The track in the basement stops the door from the basement to my shed from opening past ~45°; doesn't sound like much, but wheeling little things like my minibike or a pressure washer into the garage for maintenance is rather annoying
  2. When it is open and you are in the base, the tracks for said garage door hang low, not that 95% of people will hit their head, but it makes it "feel" like the ceiling is lower there
My plan is to build something like this to tie in to the general reclaimed wood vibe of the basement, this is just a random photo I found on google, but you get the idea

For those that have been following along for a while know that I have been trying to reconcile getting water in my basement after a lot of rain. Small update, after quite a fair amount of rain this past weekend, through Monday, its been dry thus far, but we are supposed to get a soaker this weekend (Sat/Sun) calling for up to 3-4" of rain.

After the hydraulic cement and drylock on the walls, I would say that I took care of 95%, but I believe that 5% that still got in the basement is due to the rest doing its job....As you may remember, my plan is/was to do a French Drain in the front of the house, but with trying to finalize the master suite and closing in on 4wks out from the wedding, I figured digging up the front lawn wasn't a great ideal!

Instead I've been stewing on a two part plan:
  1. Dig a deliberate trench that will catch all the run off from the driveway and direct it away from the house
  2. Use extra dirt from said trench and build up on the front of the house to direct any way hitting the front of the house into an area to also keep it away from the house
With already saturated ground and looming rain, I jumped on this last night, didn't get "TOO CRAZY," but I feel this should be a good proof of concept, that if it works, I'll make the main ditch bigger, dress it with some nice sized river rock and make it dual purpose drainage and flower bed border

In two of the photos you will see some pavers that were oddly found under the flower bed cloth, under the hose reel...not sure if these were there to try and direct water, but there was certainly a void under them that tells me water has been running under there from under the porch....again, reinforcing, I've got water coming from down the road and hitting the front of my house; I may be building a small speed bump at the end of the driveway to divert water better also.

Onto a few photos.

Front of the house, you can see were I built up and compacted the dirt on the front of the house, I'd estimate 4-5 courses of brick (also, mystery pavers stacked)

Ditch/Border from another angle
52342209805_73ed54234b_c.jpgUntitled by fouckhest, on Flickr

Finally, looking down from the front porch, definitely excited to see if this helps. I've still got some cleanup to do down by the downspout, but need to grab my fiancés garden trailer to haul all the old mulch to the back yard to use it to clean up some spots where the dogs always run....tonight's project

Small update....Good/Bad, we didn't get near as much rain as forecasted. the storm must have broken up as it came inland, which is bitter sweet b/c the weekend wasn't a complete washout, but I also didn't get to test our my new water drain experiment...womp womp

I had grand plans Saturday to do a ton of painting, but that was derailed by a couple buddies who wanted to go grab lunch, which turned into a few beers, etc....but it was fun and well, these days those types of hang out times don't happen that much unfortunately.

However, in order to save face, I came home, knocked out painting the accent wall which made it feel like an accomplishment!

Got back on the painting last night after work, got the second coat on the accent wall, then moved onto putting the first coat on all the white walls. Its actually starting too feel like a real room that we will be able to use!

Accent wall, this will be the headboard wall

The vanity is out getting coated (I didn't want to risk messing it up, its too pretty), the bottom is the semi-gloss sealer that guy is using, I think its going to work really well with the dark wall and light tile

Actual garage update!! LOL

Been trying to wrap up projects that I have supplies for, one of these being installing the batten trim/strips on the garage.

Weather has been amazing this past week, highs in the low 80s, took Friday off, knocked out some work on the bed/bath project installing all the power outlets (much more time consuming than estimated), then caught up on yard work....

Saturday after doing a little work in the bed/bath, set out to tackle the batten trim install, not as bad as expected, but definitely time consuming....figured out that measuring, cutting, painting and installing ~3 at a time worked out to be a good rotation...

My "driveway workshop"

Started on the more challenging side, b/c why not!

All wrapped up

On a separate project, we've been wanting to get some trees to provide more privacy in the back yard, in one spot to block seeing a neighbors roof, we've been wanting to get some fast growing trees, Thuja Giants have been our plan....my fiance went to Costco Friday, said they have "thujas" so yesterday we went, picked up 8 of them....on the way home dropped her at the grocery to pick up dinner, I started reading the tag, well....they are Thuja Occidentalis, which dont grow as fast and dont get as tall...womp womp....but silver lining, they will be good to put on another fence line that will provide privacy from our neighbor directly beside us...

Also, hopefully moving the mk1 this week and putting a few trees where it sits
