I have always been a shade tree mechanic out of necessity, best I ever had was a shed or a dirt floor barn. Finally got the pennies together to have a "real" garage! I don't have a finished picture of the outside, but you get the idea. The inside is wired and I have a couple of lights up, will add more as needed down the road.
I have most of the tools I need to outfit it from over the years. I am waiting for help moving my two work benches in, Friday my brother is suppose to give me a hand. We also plan to run the direct bury supply in, right now I am running power through cheater cord from the shed.

Day one:

Day Two:

Day three (the Harley couldn't wait a minute longer):

Waiting on concrete:

Here is a shot from this week, we poured the floor Friday.
Just got my first shelf up and got my cordless tools a new charging home.
Also put up two florescent light fixtures.

Not much compared to some I see here, but for me it is a dream come true. Looks like it will be pretty easy to heat, I used a small "mister heater" the other night when putting the lights up and the rack together.
Hope to get some real work done on the inside this weekend.

Lots of great ideas on this forum!

I will update inside pics as I can.

Nice simple build!
Made it look easier than it probably was!
I'm so grateful that I don't have to use heating.

How did you determine the size?

Size was set by my site location and cost. I plan to add a lean to on the side for parking, the garage is just for working on stuff.

I have nice oak and a nice maple work bench that will go in, got peg board started and cabinets planned. My brother has a roll-around tool box I can have.
I also have a small compressor that I will be looking to update.

Already talking pretty heavy about a garage door opener.

Working on the inside some. Other than the peg board its pretty much stuff I have had in the barn or in the shed.

That's looking real good. I do wonder why you didn't go bigger though? Looks like you got a lot of land there. Sure it costs more to build a bigger building, but well worth it.

Just some updates. The garage proved a great help over the winter, I was out there just about everyday. The smaller size made it pretty easy to heat and a very enjoyable space to spend time. I was able to "restore" a jon boat in pretty much the dead of winter.

Work bench is a busy place, lots of projects ongoing. Sorry for the mess, just thought to catch a picture on my way out last night.

That shinning on the wall is the back of the 1/2" foam insulating board used.

On cost, not including the concrete the guy built it labor and material for about 6K.

From my Job boat project:

6K is not a bad price. How noisy is the garage during windy weather like during a storm? You mentioned it was easy to heat. Someplace to escape and get projects done or "plan projects" -know what I mean?

Are you going to add more electric (plugs and lights) in the future?

Any plans for cooling? Ceiling fans, wall mount fan? I am sure your summers can get quite hot like the rest of the country.

I have several plugs on the walls now and a 100 amp box.

I may add a couple more lights, but I have a couple dedicated spots at key work locations.

I have a couple fans and good window vents.

When its windy the "bubble" insulation on the roof makes some noise, about like rain.

I do plan to run water out near the garage, but not in it.
Not bad at all.

This is a very nice and comfortable looking shop. I especially like your bench area and organization. I also like the construction process and if I were building again, I would go that route. A neighbor did one two years ago and is very happy with his. He heats it with a propane furnace and it stays nice and warm in winter. You did a great job on yours!

Best Regards

This weekend I replaced rotor's on my F150, worked on the 883 in the picture, removed the blower motor from the housing in out home AC unit. Then cleaned up a little so the garage could pull some dinner hoisting for Mother's Day:

My Gold Wing is on the motorcycle jack on the left side of the picture. Had to replace the wheel bearings in the front tire, hope to have it back on later this week. That big stain on the floor is from the brake work, had to replace a caliber and a brake line, got a little sloppy.

My planned ten minute brake job Friday turned into a bit more than planned.
I just planned on bleeding the rear brake system after working on the caliber last week.
First I stripped the head on the bleeder to get it off. Replaced and bleed the system with new Dot 5 fluid. Only to find the rotor was warped like a dinner bowl, the rotor was hitting the bracket that hold the caliber. I have no idea what causes this.

So we make an 80 mile round trip to the dealer, get a new rotor and a new drive belt. Mine has 50K on it and a couple of teeth on the belt where looking pretty bad at my last tire change.

I had to use my new floor jack, my motorcycle jack is still under my Gold wing, awaiting the arrival of a new front tire.

Wheel off, about to remove the drive belt:

Back together after the test ride. My wife helped me clean her up a bit.

This is one of those jobs that would have been very difficult on a dirt floor barn with no power! Love the garage!

You've got a nice space to work in there. After all the time on the ground I know you really appreciate the nice flat concrete floor. I've been in the same boat many times working out on the ground. You built a nice size to do whatever you need to do in it and stay warm and dry. Some folks don't have a clue what it's like having to just make do the best you can. 3 or 4 years ago I built a 20 by 28 to keep and maintain our two bikes in, it worked out just fine, like yours it's easy to heat with a small gas heater and I bought a window A/C and it cools it great, pretty good thing here in these hot Georgia summers we have. You've done a nice job organizing your shop, the key to a smaller shop is keeping it picked up. I for one love your shop as others here do. I've spent some time in your part of the country, (Dubois) and I know it gets darned cold there. Before you get too much stuff on the walls it wouldn't be a bad idea to put some more insulation on the walls. wouldn't cost much and you could do it yourself a wall at a time if you needed to do that. I don't mean to sound critical, but more insulation always pays off. Love you shop and I'm glad you got your dream to come true, good luck, Stafford

Garage update; I am still running the shop on temporary power! I got to get that done, soon. I still plan to add at least one lean too on the side, I sold my GoldWing to my BIL, and replaced it over the winter with a 2005 Honda VTX 1300R. Its 20 some years newer, should be a little less work and a little more riding.
I have the lawn mower apart in the foreground awaiting a part to come in, bent push rob.

I let the garage get out of hand over the winter, it got really messy and almost unusable. Getting at least one of the motorcycles out would help.

My HF compressor still going strong, the air hose reel is a must have. It makes things so much cleaner and a real space saver over 50 ft of air line laying on the floor!
The roll around my brother gave me is on the right. The small two door cabinet on the wall is full of HF nut and bolt sets, also electrical component sets. The warped brake rotor from the 883 is on the wall, plan on using it for a drift anchor on my Jon Boat...

IMG-20150415-01195_zps251dd865.jpg

I built a table to hold my "Top Box". It was a really nice box for $99 and the slides are rated 50 lbs. I lined the drawers with an old felt conveyor belt, I really like it.

IMG-20150415-01196_zpsf8b6d666.jpg

My work bench is always covered with something! I was in the process of cleaning it up when I took this picture. Its still not clean. That little three drawer box was also from Home Depot, $28. I hope to get another, but they are always sold out.

IMG-20150415-01197_zps0ebb778b.jpg

I love the garage, I don't know what I did without it. Of course I would love to have it bigger, but it is what I needed and have always wanted. Bigger would make it harder for me to use in the winter, to keep warm. The lean too will help with keeping floor space available.
I am also working on a little more storage in the rafters, I got a few things up there now.
Here is a picture for the newest bike, for those interested:

If we could only do that in California.. Damn, I'd be a happy guy. The exact same building out here, built to code is $17,900.

Damn..
