I picked this up off the local Craigslist a few days ago ($25), Come to find out the Seller was a Co-Worker. I dunno much about it but, I scoured my 1960 Snappy Book and i believe it to be older account the handle pulls are different. I expect someone here knows the model and i apreciate the assistance in advance. The Box is fairly solid including the bottom and sides and I dont forsee a problem in bringing it back to life. Enjoy!

Umm.. Im fairly certain that its not oem, I believe the Original ones where leather. This one has been modified and is actually wire with a Rubber Hose covered with Black Electrical tape. Remember its 70 years old. LOL

I can only find the "Snap on" stamped in the Front on the panel, I couldnt see anything on the Back, But i havent really had a chance to clean it up yet.

I found stampings on my old 57 look at all the corners mine had 2 numbers stamped after the usa which i believe is the year?

HiBall,
Here are some pix of mine, bought at an auction in July of this past summer.

ToolboxSnapOn1.jpg

Outside shot doesn't really show much. Handle has been "reinforced" with some kind of crude wrapping.
ToolboxSnapOn3.jpg

Two drawers and top section loaded with JUNK. No tray was found with this box.
ToolboxSnapOn4.jpg

Here is backside view of the stamped logo on the front panel.
ToolboxSnapOn2.jpg

This close-up pic shows the outside of the center of the lid, right where your rivets are located. Looking closely I see the outline of an oval-shaped decal, I think, and what appears to be the top part of a red-colored "S", seemingly in the correct vintage font to be the first letter of "Snap On". Maybe yours once had the same decal or stencil? Or maybe yours had a riveted tag instead?
ToolboxSnapOn6.jpg

The drawers were open on this box at the auction, to reveal the contents inside. So the public did not see the stamped logo on the front panel. It was hidden by the open drawers! That reason, combined with the fact that the contents of the box really were total junk, allowed me to win it with a bid of just $5.

But it looks to me like yours is in nicer shape.

Nice find!

Not on first glance. No attempt made yet to clean it.

I've got an event to set up this week, and just recovering from my fall automotive swap meet, so many projects have been neglected, including this box.

I need to stop buying tools, so that I can start digging out from all the projects I am creating for myself. But those rotten vendors and yard salers keep offering prices too low for me to ignore. How inconsiderate!!!

I also have the same box. I got it 50 years ago and it was old then. I have the top tool tray and a sliding tray that fits in the top side of the lower drawer. The handle on top is a sewed leather grip. I got it with the original gray paint, but have since painted it twice, red. On sanding before painting, I never saw any factory stamping. I still use it as a road box. Tough box but is very heavy without tools.

The stampings on the back, came in during the mid 50s.

Oh, I see. That is helpful to know.

By the way, my box is distinctly green...an olive drab color. And since I can see part of that decal on the lid, I assume it is the original color. Does that suggest military use? I've seen pix of those old Snap On wall cabinets in green OD, so I have assumed that OD Green must have once been Snap On's official color. When did that change to red?

Tim,
Someday, if it is convenient for you, I would like to see pix of your handle and the two trays.

I have bought a LOT of tool boxes and loose trays over recent months/years, and I might even have the correct one someplace. If not, I would like to be able to hunt for them.

Thanks.

Hey Lump,
Check tomorrow for pictures, if I can figure out how to transfer a picture post. Never done it before. Too close to sunset to get a good photo. My box needs cleaning out so this will kill two birds at once. TIM

Tim if your gonna upload pictures directly from your Computer you have to use the little "Attachment" icon next to white smiley face. You only use the Image Icon when you are having the pictures Hosted by a third party. If you have issues you can send them the pictures to me and ill host them for you.
