Walt: yep keep posting pictures cause some of the guys that read threads on their phones don't have time and it's not easy to post on a cell phone for some of us.

great that you were able to set up the lathe and personally i'd love to see and hear more details on how you moved it cause some day i'm going to buy one and i don't want to drop it or break it.

your walls are looking great and congrats on your progress.

how's the health?

cheers

drives and finallygotit I did not think anyone was looking anymore after my last post over a month ago and no response. Been working on the shop on the east wall. Got all except the 8 feet on the north end done . Installed ply wood and painted same. sure looks good to me. I put my lathe in its new home position, just doing that gave me a great feeling of accomplishment. Let me try the pictures fingers crossed.
walt

Walt, keep the pics and updates coming, we are still here and looking.

Well Walt, it's almost Thanksgiving. Time flies when you're having fun. We finally got moved into the house. Still missing a few things. Still packed in boxes somewhere. I'll go buy some and then they'll show up on the shelf. LOL Concrete guys haven't showed yet. I figure it will be Christmas now. I'm an impatient person when you give money upfront and see no work done. Hope you are feeling good. Looks like you have been having some QGT. I'll bet that lathe was fun to move. Keep posting. I'll check in later.

Sometimes I’m frustrated by the lack of response on my build thread. I hope people are reading and enjoying my thread and learning from my mistakes.

These are the ones that should have been in my last post.

Walt, I take it the Kubota skidsteer and tractor are yours, as various contractors have been using them?

Also, beautiful truck and building. I'm glad I stumbled upon this thread.

Finally, I hope you are fully recovered from your operation almost a year ago.

Walt- Just got caught up on your thread. Looks great! Sorry if I missed it, but what are you using to heat the shop? I think the painting and copper lines look great.

Why the two different power panels?

Isn't it two pictures of the same thing? Pic 1 and 2 are the meter coming in?

Walt, beautiful shop. From the 2 tone siding to the lighting (so far), it all looks nice and clean. I don't know what i would do with that much space at home.

drives. Moving the lathe was not a problem. I put two four wheel dollies one on each end and pushed it into the u haul at the old house in CA. Upon arrival in TN I saw one of the dollies had broken in half. Still not a problem I just jacked the lathe up, removed the offending Dollie and put another one under it. Rolled it off the u haul and into the garage, there it sat since August 2017.

53pontiacsd. Moving is so much fun. When I am looking for something I know I have more than one of but can not find any I buy another. Some day all these will come out of the woodwork and I will have plenty to spare. The lathe was not hard to move it mostly went smoothly. It now sits in it's final resting place I hope. I just got back from a trip to MA. Went to see mother and siblings for thanksgiving. I am feeling ok, need to get a knee replacement in DEC, more fun and games.

farmall450. The only piece of equipment I own is the M62 kubota. The skid steer is not mine. Thanks for the kind words on my truck and the building. I am probably as recovered as I will ever be from my cancer operation. Next month I will get a replacement left knee, my right one was replaced three an a half years ago.

todd.brock. No heat yet, but the temp inside is tolerable. With an outside temp of 30 the inside temp is at least 20 degrees warmer. I realize as the colder winter temps keep dropping and the shop gets cold soaked that 20 degree margin will fade. A double barrel stove is going be the heat source. Thank you for the nice reply on the painting and the copper air lines. You are correct on the 200 amp then the 100 amp sub panel. Where the sub panel is located the air compressor will live, but on the outside under a shed roof.

rc-guy. There are two separate panels 200 amp coming into the building then a separate 100 amp panel to power the air compressor and the east wall.

Amen Brother!! I had a nice 50% full barn, we sold our house but have not built another one yet, so now I have a full 110% barn, everything I look for is on the bottom or I cant find it, I'll buy 2 and then find 3 a day or two later. Hoping to start building in the spring, waiting on architect right now. My wife of 30+ years has more patience than I thought, she hasn't killed me or the dog just yet... Glad you are doing well Walt.

dw1. I know all about the 50% full barn. In my case it was a 100% full conex. As soon as I had a secure shop the conex was emptied out and the shop became 50% full, this saved me $150. a month rental fees by sending the conex back. I hope your spring build goes according to your plan.

The first picture is along the west wall showing man door and plywood on walls.
Second is shop lights and copper air lines.
Third is northwest corner.
Forth is 100 amp panel in north east corner.
Fifth is 200 amp panel on the south end of west wall.
Sixth is two of my ignition cabinets mounted on the wall to get them off the floor.
Seventh is my metric tool box and showing ply wood on walls and copper air lines.
I think this is all for now.
walt

I am going to assume that feed to the 100a panel is only temporary?

Otherwise looks like a nice building.

bert. The 100 amp sub panel is there to stay. The distance to the 200 amp panel is around 95 feet and that corner is where my air compressor will live.

I just meant the wire that feeds it. Those individual wires definitely cannot be ran free air like the picture shows.

Hope it doesn't sound like I'm trying to be negative. I just wanted to point out a possible safety / fire hazard.

Walt - I just found your thread and read it from start to finish this evening. Incredible job done!

Now that your in and using it you must be thrilled with having that much space to work in. You probably haven't had time to fill it to the brim yet.

Can you tell us about the lathe itself and desk/table it is on? I'm not familiar with metalworking equipment and the legs of that desk/table are unusual.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Cheers

Walt, Happy Holiday's and I hope you feel much better very soon. Here's hoping that 2018 will have less doctors involved and more shop time.

Take care!

Walt: My dad has had 2 knee replacements. he had his first one 14 years ago at age 71 and 6 weeks later he was playing golf. he just had his other one done after a broken hip surgery and i think at 85 the 2 surgeries were a bit much for him and after almost a year he's still in a wheelchair and barely moving around.

one thing i'd recommend to you is maybe find a nice used Stairmaster or Schwinn recumbent exercise bike. i put a Stairmaster in my dad's living room and he's not using it as much as i'd like him to, but my mom keeps trying to get him on it. i even bribe him that i'll make him his favorite cookies if he gets up to an hour a day and even though i've brought him more than a few cookies he's still working up to that.

here's a couple pictures of the bikes. I'm using the Schwinn now for 30 minutes a day and doing 10 miles on it and burning 300 calories. even doing 5 minutes a few times a day might help to keep your knee getting better and you'll know better than i on how much pain you can handle. i've also owned this style Schwinn recumbent that was ok, but a little too close to the floor for me.

here's to a great 2018 and hoping your health issues are well behind you so you can get in more garage time.

cheers

Than you for the condolences on the loss of my mother. I will miss her for a long time. So far cancer is at bay go back to DR in June.
My knee replacement was a real pain, but it is finally coming around. Took pain pills up until April the fifth. 2018 is already a good year i have gone to the DR only 3 times thus far. I have a recumbent exercise bike Vision brand name but I have not had any luck finding the power supply. I had it when I moved but it has gone into hiding. Been piddling around in the shop, nothing great to report on.

I am still alive but have spent three of the first five months of 2018 in the hospital. I just got out of the hospital on Wed 6/26, it is great to be home. Needless to say no progress to be made in the shop. I have about three or four months of recovery time so here again not a whole lot of progress in the shop.
I will not bore you with any more info.
